7. No way out

2010 Words
As soon as Atropos closed the door of her room behind her, she took a deep breath. She finally felt like she could breathe again. Atropos closed her eyes and slowly breathed out to stop her hands from shaking. She leaned on the door to calm down, but suddenly she remembered that she had to visit Clotho to say goodbye. Knowing that the time was short, she opened her eyes and clenched her fists to stop their shaking. She counted to ten, and she opened her door and went to find her sister. The first place where Atropos went to find Clotho was her sister's room. As soon as she opened the door, Clotho's sweet scent hit her, and suddenly, her last vision where everyone had died popped up. Something in her exploded, and she couldn't hold her tears anymore. Luckily for her, Clotho wasn't still there, or else Atropos would have to explain why she was crying like crazy in the empty room. Atropos wasn't sure how long she was overwhelmed by her emotion when she suddenly felt someone gently touching her hair. She didn't see the person, but she was convinced that only one of her sisters would console her. One of them found her crying her heart out. She thought about how she would explain herself when the person took her in her arms. Clotho's warmth immediately embraced her, and Atropos finally felt peaceful. After a while, Atropos calmed down, and she looked at her oldest sister Clotho, and she tried to smile. Knowing that sooner or later she had to explain herself, she said: "I prepared everything for you. You should never suffer because of money, so I hope you will enjoy it, but..." Suddenly Clotho interrupted her when she looked deeply into her eyes, saying: "I know. I will miss you too, Atri. Both of you!" Atropos should have known that Clotho would understand what was hidden in her heart. She was trying to hide the pain in front of her, but thanks to Clotho's skill, she saw how painful it was to say goodbye. After all, Clotho could see everything hidden in men's hearts. Atropos closed her eyes for a second, and she was enjoying the last moment with her sister. She knew that this was the last time for a very long time. "You know that I never cared about power, money, or poverty, but thank you. I will be back soon." Seeing how amazing and caring her sister was, Atropos felt terrific. Suddenly she had the feeling that she had to tell her sister everything. She took a deep breath and opened her mouth, but when she was already going to expose everything, she noticed her younger sister Lachesis peeking behind the door. "There you are!" Atropos saw how surprised Lachesis was when she saw her sister Clotho showing her emotion to someone. Clotho was always the coldest one, yet she was smiling and even gently petting Atropos's hair as if it was something natural. Before Atropos could explain to Lachesis why they were acting so strangely, Clotho opened her arms, saying to Lachesis: "Come." It was like Lachesis was waiting only for this word because she ran towards them the next second, and they all ended in one big hug. Feeling her sister's love made her sad, and it became harder for her to pretend with each second. If Atropos hadn't known what would happen, this moment would be the best in her life, but she knew, and she couldn't fully enjoy the moment. "I love you more than anything else, and now it's almost time. So please behave and don't make me worry." Said suddenly, Clotho and Atropos's hearts skipped a beat. It was like her sister knew what was awaiting her. Knowing that she had to interrupt that moment, Atropos moved, but before she could say something, Lachesis got ahead of her, and she said: "This is the necklace of Eden, a farewell gift from us. It involves a drop of blood from each of us, and if your life or ours is in danger, we will immediately know it. It was also enchanted so that no one would be able to detect the magic in it, so don't worry. For everyone, it will be just a beautiful necklace." Atropos saw how moved Clotho was, and she felt relieved. There was no chance that any of her sisters would notice something wrong. She hugged them for the last time, and she disappeared. Atropos felt relieved. She was saved once again. After Clotho left them, Atropos sat on her sister's bed. Her heart was suddenly heavy. She managed to save Clotho, but she had to betray Lachesis. She knew that Nyx would find another way to fulfill her plan if she didn't do it. Knowing that nothing could stop Nyx when she wanted something, Atropos stood up from Clotho's bed to get away, but it was obviously too sudden because Lachesis suddenly asked: "Where are you going?" Atropos said the first thing that came to her mind: "I need to see how Clotho is doing!" Almost immediately, she realized that she had made a mistake when she saw the surprise on Lachesis's face. "You know that we shouldn't do that! Did you forget what happened last time?" Atropos forgot that her sisters were still following those stupid rules preventing them from changing fate. Atropos knew that it was dangerous to play with fate. There were still consequences after her last wrong decision. Yet she knew that it was pointless to follow the rules. Suddenly, the flashback of her sister's dead body came to her mind, and she couldn't handle Lachesis's sight anymore. "You know that we can't interfere!" Atropos clenched her fists. Unfortunately, she knew that it was too late not to interfere, but it looked like she was the only one knowing that. She was angry that her sister still believed that everything would end well if they didn't do anything. "I don't need to use my power to know that you think I am too cruel now." Atropos turned surprised at Lachesis after those words. She was astonished by Lachesis's thoughts, and she thought she would be cruel to her. She never thought that Lachesis could be that wrong, and she wanted to reassure her that she never had thoughts like that, but Lachesis kept saying: "I fully understand how you feel, sis. I am worried, too, even when I am not showing it. I want to see how she is doing more than anything, but if we break the rules now, we won't have a chance to help her when she really needs us. Therefore, for now, we should follow the rules." Something in Lachesis's eyes made her believe that she was right, and they could do anything together. Maybe it was just her imagination, but Atropos wanted to believe it. She took a deep breath, and she opened her mouth to spell everything out, but before she could say something, the door to Clotho's room opened. The one that entered the room was Nyx. Atropos didn't know why she appeared so soon, but she clearly saw Nyx's sneering seeing them so close. But it didn't last long because she had the same perfect smile as always in the next second. Seeing Nyx's fake smile made Atropos angry. She lowered her head and bit her tongue before she could say something that she couldn't take back. "There you are, my sweetheart! I was looking for you, Atropos, almost everywhere!" When Atropos heard the words "sweetheart," she almost vomited. Nyx was always as slimy as a slug. "I realized that it was too harsh for me to call you "rude and spoiled brat" in front of everyone. But you need to understand that I was too angry to see you coming to my party wearing just this hateful thing." Nyx pointed at Arti's jeans, and then she kept saying: "I didn't want to hurt you, sweetie! I realized what I said too late, and you were gone. So, I was looking for you to apologize." Atropos thought that she was ready for everything Nyx prepared for her, but it surprised her when she came to apologize to her. She knew she shouldn't be surprised because it was only a precise move to distract her, yet it was the first time she heard Nyx apologize to someone. From the corner of her eyes, Atropos saw that she wasn't the only one that was surprised. Lachesis was startled so much that she forgot even to close her mouth. If the situation was different, Atropos would even laugh at her sister's reaction, but she knew she had to stay in her role. So, instead of laughing, Atropos forced herself to smile as brightly as possible, showing Nyx that her trap worked. Atropos thought that Nyx would be pleased by her reaction, but Nyx was focused on Lachesis instead of her. Atropos looked at her sister, and when she saw how focused Lachesis was, she knew what Lachesis was trying to do, and she was frightened. She was scared because her sister thought that she would be able to read Nyx's mind, but Atropos knew that Nyx found out long ago about their skills, and since then, she has been well prepared. Unfortunately, Atropos couldn't find out what was protecting Nyx. In the beginning, she thought that it was some amulet that Hephaistos made, but Atropos didn't see her wearing anything more than once. She had it somewhere well-hidden, or it wasn't an amulet but a powerful spell. Either way, trying to use power around Nyx was useless. Suddenly Lachesis stepped back. Atropos looked at her, and she saw that she was unusually pale. Lachesis's teeth were clenched, and she looked like she was hiding pain. Atropos moved, but she stopped when she saw that Nyx was watching her with suspicion. She forgot about her role-playing for a second, and she almost got exposed. When Nyx saw that Lachesis was done, she smiled and sweetly said, as if nothing had happened at all: "Oh, and I forgot to tell you, Lachesis, that Hermes is looking for you. He asked me to tell you that you should find him immediately because he has some urgent message for you. Unfortunately, he couldn't tell me more!" Lachesis moved, but Atropos saw that she was barely standing on her feet. It looked like she wanted to leave, but Atropos knew that Nyx wasn't done with her. At least not yet. She clenched her fists because she hated that she couldn't do anything to help Lach. Suddenly, something unexpected happened that made Atropos as well as Nyx stunned. Lachesis embraced Nyx, and she forgot to control her emotions. Atropos saw that first shock change to disgust and anger when she realized that one of her daughters had hugged her. Atropos saw that Lachesis hugged Nyx tighter when she tried to push her out. Not knowing that it would only make things worse. Suddenly, Lachesis let Nyx go, and she walked away. Atropos looked at her mother, and she stepped away. She never saw Nyx that angry in her life. When she turned to Atropos, she didn't bother playing as a loving mother anymore. She was furious, and Atropos knew that the one who would pay for it would be her sister. "It is time to take care of your sister!" "But…" Atropos was going to say something, but her mother lifted her hand and stopped her, saying: "Either you will do what I said, or someone else will care for her. But I am telling you she has to pay for her wrongdoing. She will be suffering. That's the fact. The question is how much you want to see her suffer." The next second, Nyx waved with her hand, and she saw something terrible rising from the shadows. She stepped back from the fear. She couldn't believe her own eyes because what she saw shouldn't even exist.
