Atropos opened her eyes, and for a second, she was confused. She thought that she would be back in her sister's room, but it took a while for her to find out she was instead in the Apportioners tower. As a child, Atropos loved Apportioners tower because it was the place where they were born. The place that belonged only to them. No one could enter this zone. It was their sanctuary. The spot where they could find the piece, but everything changed after moving to Nihilis.
The Apportioners tower was created again, but it wasn't the same even when it looked identical. It was like the soul of her beloved place was gone. When she entered the tower, she felt empty. Atropos decided never to visit that place again, yet she was back.
"You are finally awake!"
Atropos turned around quickly to hear her mother's voice suddenly. Seeing Nyx sitting on one of the three chairs that belonged to the Fate Goddesses surprised her, but she was more surprised seeing Nyx playing with someone's life thread. Atropos never saw such a beautiful life thread, so whoever it was, was very important.
Suddenly she remembered that Nyx had poisoned her, and she sizzled.
"What did you do to me, and why are you here?"
Asked Atropos fiercely, dropping off all formalities. When Nyx raised her eyebrows, Atropos knew that Nyx was angry with her rudeness, but Atropos was already sick of playing her mother's games. To show her mother that she wasn't scared of her, she looked directly in her eyes and said:
"You already got what you wanted! Clotho is gone, and I betrayed Lachesis. So, tell me, mother, why are you here!"
When Nyx started laughing, Atropos stayed calm. She didn't expect that her mother would give her an answer. She asked her because she wanted to distract her. Nyx was playing with the life thread, and that was very dangerous.
Nyx stopped laughing, and she put the life thread to the side when she coldly said:
"From today, you will stay here, and you will do everything I say to you!"
After the first shock, Atropos looked at her mother because she suspected her mother had been crazy, but Nyx looked like before. Maybe even better.
"Why do you think that I would listen to you?" Atropos asked, confused.
When she saw the malicious smile on Nyx's face, she knew that her mother was waiting only for this question.
"Well..." Nyx snapped with her fingers, and almost immediately, Atropos saw Gauek stepping out from the shadows behind Nyx's back.
"…you might have forgotten that there is no place for disobedience!"
"Is that everything you have? I don't want to disappoint you, mother, but I am no longer scared of your toy. I admit that it was scary seeing this monster alive, but I know that you still need me, so you have to find something else if you want me to be obedient!"
Stubbornly said Atropos to her mother, but when she saw flashes of lightning bolts in Nyx's eyes, she wondered if she shouldn't stay better quiet.
"You are right, my dear. I still need you, but you forgot that I could take everything you treasured the most from you. Maybe you should call me "mother" once again to see what would happen to your sister Clotho!"
Nyx said, and Atropos saw the life thread she admired the most in Nyx's hand. Finally, it made sense why the life thread was so beautiful. It was her sister's life thread after she became a human. Atropos wondered what changed in her sister's life that her life thread was glowing.
Suddenly, Atropos saw that Nyx moved her hand with the life thread to where Gaueko was standing. It was like a bad dream when Atropos watched Gaueko slowly approaching her sister's life thread. With every inch, her sister's life thread lost its glow. Atropos didn't know what would happen to her sister when the life thread stopped glowing, but she wasn't prepared to risk her sister's life to find it out.
"Stop it!" shouted Atropos at Nyx, but she pretended not to hear it.
Atropos clenched her fists, and she moved to Nyx. She would stop her using all her power, but someone's hands stopped her after a few steps. Atropos looked behind her back to find out who dared to stop her, and for a second, she was stunned.
Thaleia, one of the three Charites known as Goddess of Festivity and her sister Lachesis's lover, was the one that stopped her.
Atropos was confused. She was convinced that Thaleia was in love with her sister, especially when she saw her in Lachesis's arms at Clotho's farewell party.
Suddenly Thaleia whispered in her ear:
"You know what? It's hilarious to see Fate Goddess surprised! You have no idea how much I wished to see the same look on your sister's face. But Nyx promised me something way better. I am curious if it met my expectations."
Atropos got angry. She couldn't believe how stupid that minor Goddess was when she believed her mother.
"You are crazy if you believed anything that Nyx said! She is the last person that would do anything for you. She is just using you, and when she doesn't need you anymore, she will get rid of you! You are just too blind to see it! Now open your eyes and don't be stupid anymore! Let me go before it is too late!"
Atropos hoped that Thaleia would understand how stupid it was to believe someone like Nyx, and she would let her go, but she seized Atropos's hands tightly behind her back so she couldn't move. She wished she would have her power back to punch this naïve Goddess right into her face, but Atropos wasn't that lucky.
Seeing how Clotho's life thread was barely glowing, Atropos looked at Nyx, but Nyx smiled and enjoyed the situation. The life thread was losing its primary essence. Knowing that she had to do something before it became too late, she tried to slip away, but she still didn't have her full power back.
Atropos was desperate. She would do anything to save her sister's life, yet she couldn't do anything. Her eyes got watery, seeing how helpless she was. Knowing that she had nothing else, she lowered her head and started to beg:
"Please, don't do that! I will do anything! So, I am begging you to stop it!"
Suddenly, Atropos heard how Nyx snapped again with her fingers. With her eyes full of tears, Atropos raised her head, and she saw that the Gaueko was gone. She looked at her sister's life thread in Nyx's hand that lost its glow, and her head began spinning. Atropos was sure that if Thaleia still didn't hold her, she would fall from her heart's pain.
The sorrow was overwhelming her. Thaleia set Atropos free out of the blue, and Atropos sunk to her knees. Atropos felt that someone's hand touched her chin and raised her head. It was Nyx!
"Well, I hope this lesson showed you how pointless it will be to be disobedient! I can reassure you next time. I wouldn't be lenient!"
For Atropos, surprised Nyx gave her Clotho's life thread and said:
"Soon, I will come back! Hopefully, I will find the Fate Goddess here instead of a sad sack!"
Nyx left and left her alone, heartbroken, kneeling on the floor.
Atropos looked at Clotho's life thread, and she clasped it in her hand and put it on her heart. The life thread wasn't cut, yet its energy was dry. Atropos felt that her sister's life was vanishing.
She closed her eyes, and she finally felt the energy coming back to her. Atropos bit her upper lip because she would do something crazy. She would save her sister at all costs, even losing her own life.
