5. Like mother, like daughter

"What brought the Goddess of Darkness here?" asked Atropos coldly after the first shock, totally forgetting the role she was supposed to play. She immediately realized that it was a mistake when Nyx raised one of her eyebrows in surprise. Nyx came closer, and Atropos saw daggers in her mother's eyes. Atropos lowered her head and looked down, trying to save the situation, but she doubted it would be enough to calm her mother's anger. When Nyx was only a few inches from Atropos, she took Atropos's strand of hair in her hand and slowly twirled it around her finger. For someone uninterested, it looked like the Nyx was just gently playing with her daughter's hair, showing her mother love, but Atropos doubted that her mother ever knew what the word love meant. Atropos's sudden pain when Nyx pulled her hair caused her to groan. Nyx pulled Atropos's hair even more, and she kept whispering right into Atropos's ear: "When I saw you with your pale skin and white hair for the first time, I wanted to kill you. You represented everything that I hated the most. The pureness that was in your eyes made me crazy, but at the same time, I knew that, from your sisters, you were the one that could fulfill all my dreams." Atropos thought that she wouldn't be hurt anymore by her mother's words for all those years, yet she was wrong. Deep in her heart, she still believed that part of her mother loved her, but today her mother destroyed her beliefs when she kept coldly saying: "You are alive just because I know that you can be controlled. Don't make me believe that it was a bad decision to keep you alive!" Nyx let Atropos's hair, but she wasn't prepared for such a sudden move, and she felt down. Atropos clenched her fists. She wanted more than anything to fight back, but at the same time, she knew that it still wasn't the right time. She knew that winning over her mother would cost her more than hurting her pride. Atropos still didn't know her mother's true intentions and who she worked with. According to her mother's rules, she had to play to find the truth. Nyx was dangerous and treacherous, and finally, today, she showed her true face. At least for now. So, instead of taking any action, she knew that she had to play the role of the hurt daughter to convince her mother. She raised her head, and with teary eyes, she looked at Nyx, but it wasn't as easy as before because Nyx's cold eyes were full of hatred. "Oh, please! Don't look at me like an abandoned puppy! Do you really think that you could play with me? I found out long ago what you are up to! Till now, I have been playing your stupid games because it was fun. I wanted to see how far you could go, thinking that you could outsmart me. But I don't have time anymore to play with you!" Atropos looked at her mother, and she was thinking about her next move. She was surprised that Nyx exposed her fraud, but it was too late to cry over the spilled milk. Her mother might have found out that she was trying to outsmart her, but she still had some triumph in her hands. And this wasn't the end. She stood up and looked at Nyx's cold eyes when she smirked: "Finally! I started to think that your name overcame you!" It was nice to see a surprise in her mother's eyes. Nyx wasn't awaiting such a reaction. Atropos took a breath when she said: "I had to play this disgraceful role so my sisters would trust me. If I am not wrong, you already found out that I messed up with fate when I let the witch queen live. The whole thing was my plan for getting rid of my sisters. " When Atropos saw that Nyx started to have doubts, she knew that she had chosen the right path, and she kept saying: "Well, I think you wouldn't be surprised when I say that I don't like you either, but it looks like we are aiming for the same, at least for now!" Suddenly Nyx laughed, and when she stopped, she asked: "Do you think that I would believe your sudden change of heart? I know how much you love your sisters, so tell my dear, why would you like to get rid of them?" Still looking into her mother's eyes, Atropos seriously said: "I loved my sisters and still love them, but I don't think they have what is necessary to be the Fate Goddesses. If I am not mistaken, you already know that it was their fault that we lost our beautiful home and we were banished to this frosty place. They were messing with fate, and we all had to take responsibility for their wrongdoing. Last time I didn't have the heart to stop them, so I promised myself to do everything necessary to avoid the same in the future! I wasn't sure who I could trust, so I
