Focusing on her energy source took Atropos more than she expected. It was complicated, especially when she knew that she was lacking time. She felt how sweat drops formed on her forehead while focusing on parting a simple yarn of her energy.
Atropos didn't know how long she had been trying to separate them when she finally succeeded. She took the yarn quickly and attached it to Clotho's life thread. When she saw the knot between them, she felt delighted, but at the same time, she knew that the most challenging part was only waiting for her. She had to transfer enough energy to activate the life thread again, but it was perilous. Transfering too much energy to Clotho's life thread would end catastrophically, and her soul would be lost forever. Even Atropos's life was in danger because that move could drain all her energy, and she wouldn't be able to get it back. Without her power, she would become a mortal. If not, enough energy would be transferred, she would end up exhausted; who knows for how long, and Clotho's soul would be trapped in the Underworld.
Atropos clenched her fist with Clotho's life thread tightly, and she started to transfer her essence. After a while, she started shaking. She lost too much energy. With the power that left her, she opened her eyes and looked at her hand still holding the life thread. Seeing that the glow was back made her smile, but her smile was the last thing she did because she fainted in the next second.
"What a pleasure to meet you again, my lady! I didn't expect you that soon."
Atropos opened her eyes, looking right into Morpheus's beautiful eyes.
"Why am I here?"
Atropos looked around. She was lying in a cave.
"I am sorry that I couldn't prepare a better place to welcome you, but there are some circumstances that I am facing right now." Said Morpheus, seeing how confused she was.
Atropos sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. For a second, she thought that she had ended in the Underworld. Luckily, she was back in the Dreamworld.
"Did you bring me here?" asked Atropos, and she looked at Morpheus, who was watching her the whole time.
"Yes and No. You came to my world alone. However, it wasn't safe where you landed, so I brought you here. Here you can rest till you have enough energy."
Atropos looked suspicious at him. After discovering that Thaleia was working for her mother, she became suspicious.
"How do you know that I lost my energy? Or should I better have asked how long you work for Nyx?"
Atropos knew that if he worked for Nyx, he wouldn't tell her no matter what, but she wanted to see his first reaction after she accused him. Morpheus stayed calm as he was expecting it, and then he said:
"No matter what I say, you would still suspect me!"
Atropos's forehead creased after she heard Morpheus answer.
"That's not an answer! So, why are you not giving me a clear response?"
Morpheus sighed, and then he sat beside Atropos, saying:
"I am not working for your mother! Before you ask how I know everything, let me explain everything from the beginning."
Atropos nodded, seeing that Morpheus was waiting for her response.
"As a God of dreams, I was born with almost unlimited power. Zeus and other Gods were scared that my strength could be dangerous for everyone, and they decided to seal me in my world. You could imagine that I didn't like the idea. I saw how Hades ended, and I wasn't prepared to end like him. I was hesitant to live in a place where I would have to be alone, but Zeus promised me that I wouldn't end up alone. I didn't believe him, so he took me to the Apportioner's towers, and he showed me every soul in the world, telling me that I had to choose one that would share my destiny. When I was looking at all those souls, I got scared. I didn't know how to choose the right one when there were so many. I was scared that I might choose the wrong one and I would be left alone. I wanted to tell him that I was not prepared to select one when something caught my attention. It was the most significant soul I ever saw. I looked closer because I thought that such a big soul had to be extraordinary, and I was right. After I came closer, I found out that it wasn't one soul but three souls forming in one.
It surprised me because I had never seen three souls forming into one, and I turned to Zeus. Zeus wasn't keen on my interests because he already knew how complicated it would be to choose one of them. He told me that those are souls of Fate Goddesses. They should be born soon as three sisters.
Zeus tried to convince me that I had to choose another soul because I shouldn't be playing with fate, but one of them had already caught my heart. I insisted that this one would be perfect for me. Zeus couldn't say anything as he had already made an oath to give me the soul I would choose.
The last thing that I saw before I left the world was the soul of my future queen. Since then, I have been patiently waiting for you to come to see me."
Atropos crossed her arms. She knew that Morpheus was looking at her, trying to catch her sight, but she couldn't look at him.
"I hope you will stop suspecting me, my queen, because I would never betray you!"
Said Morpheus when Atropos was still avoiding his eyes.
After those words, Atropos bit her upper lip. Then she turned her head to him, and after she locked his sight, she said:
"Firstly, you should stop calling me your queen because I am not your queen."
Atropos saw how Morpheus was going to interrupt her, so she quickly raised her hand to stop him, and she said:
"Let's say that I will lose my mind and become your queen. I can reassure you that I would always hate it. Secondly, I still do not believe you. If you think I will stop suspecting you after your sweet story, you are crazier than I thought. Thirdly, your story still didn't explain what I asked you, so I will ask again. Tell me how you might know everything when you were locked here?"
Suddenly, Morpheus turned his sight away, and Atropos knew she wouldn't like his answer.
"When I found you, you were unconscious. I had to use my power to find out what happened to you."
"Beg pardon? I think I heard wrong! Did you just say that you used your power on me?"
Atropos felt anger pour through her when she heard that Morpheus was using his power on her. Using powers on other Gods was something strictly forbidden. The worst was that he used his skills on her when she was unconscious, and she couldn't even defend herself. It was like he spat in her face. If she had her power back, she would show him how disrespectful it was, but her energy was drenched.
Swallowing down her frustration, she coldly said:
"You should consider yourself lucky that my power is not back, but I warn you! If you use your power on me again, you will regret it your whole life!"
Morpheus was going to explain to her his wrongdoing but seeing that Atropos's expression hardened, he closed his mouth and nodded.
Atropos closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead because she felt exhausted.
Suddenly she felt strange. The coldness was filling her body till the sharp pain pierced her body. She quickly opened her eyes, and Morpheus saw fear in her face. Something was wrong. Atropos looked at Morpheus, but the wave of pain rolled through her the next second, and she let out a shriek of pain.
Atropos's whole body started shaking from the pain.
