It stung Richard deeply, as this was something that had always saddened him. He had never known his mother and felt responsible for her death; a burden he would always carry. Thomas saw the look on Richard’s face and realised he had said too much and wanted so much to take the words back, but he couldn’t. Richard quietly opened and walked out of the door, closing it behind him. Thomas watched him go, seeing the hurt in Richard’s face tore at his heart.
