CHAPTER TWO
ALIBI
"Where has he gone to?" Ella said as she kept searching the rooms and bathrooms. She kept trying to call him to no avail and suddenly heard a loud slam, it was Andrew slamming the door in fear. He was soaked in blood and seemed frightened.
"What's going on?" Ella, who seemed surprised, rushed to him while demanding a quick response.
"I... I... I...hit a woman with my car!" He yelled in fright.
"What?, don't raise your voice" Ella said as she tried to bring back her thoughts .
"How did this happened? Where did you go?" She asked
"I should ask you that, where were you? I was on my way in search of you thinking you left already." Andrew explained.
"I was just by the balcony," Ella said, almost weeping, in fear.
"What do we do? Should I report it to the police? She died instantly, I... I ... Wasn't expecting anyone to cross the road at that time, it was dark and Emm.. Emm... Cool..." Andrew continued to explain in fear.
"Calm down, where's the body?" Ella demanded to know, as she tried to brazen up herself.
Andrew led the way to his car, he had picked up the dead body into his trunk
"Eeehhh"!!!! Ella raised her voice in fear, shrugged as she saw the corpse, it was her mother in law that just called a few minutes earlier.
"Do you recognise her?" Andrew demanded to know..
"No! I don't" she lied sharply, she didn't want Andrew to know about her marital status and just couldn't think of any way other than to lie.
"I was just scared of the bloody corpse." She lied again, changing the subject.
"So what do we do?" Andrew asked again.
"Let's bury the body, then you should give a call to Don to clear up your traces" Ella advised.
"You can trust him right?" she continued
"Yes, he's my right hand man," Andrew responded.
Just then he gave Don a call, revealing what had happened to him and commanded he delete all his traces from the vacation house and the accident scene.
That night, Andrew and Ella abandoned the car and took a taxi back to the city.
While in the taxi, they were both tense, just then there was news of an accident reported by an eye witness. Hearing that, they both shrugged as they thought of what to do.
"Look, what I have here" Andrew said as he slipped through the jacket on him, and brought out an invitation card. It was the same card Samantha gave to him a few days back. He quickly could see that it was the same date he was invited.
“Should we use her as your Alibi" Ella asked
"I think so!" Andrew nodded in agreement
"But, I can't seem to agree with the condition she included , how can she say your coming means you're accepting her feelings" Ella said, worried
"Are you seriously jealous right now? Should you be?, c'mon she's just my Alibi" Andrew assured.
"Are you sure you haven't forgotten the promises you made to me on the bed?" she asked again
"Ella!! This is not the right time, I can't ever leave you, moreso, you are aware of my crime " he confessed.
"Sure, you can confide in me," she said.
"Please take us to this venue" Ella said as she showed the Uber driver the invitation card for the address of Samantha's first debut.
Samantha was so happy and joyous after seeing her crush honoring her invitation, her first debut at that, she felt overwhelmed with joy as she left the stage in a rush to give him a heart warming embrace.
It was a sight worth seeing for everyone around, as the media couldn't but snap, it was a good highlight for them. Andrew was surprised, he didn't expect the scene, he was stunned.
"Is there no going back for me?" He asked himself.
There was no choice for him at that moment as he also returned the embrace. There was a loud noise in the house as the media photographic onslaught showed no mercy. Ella stood in jealousy as she watched another woman embracing her newly found lover, she almost flared up but stopped herself totally from displaying her jealousy.
"Mr Andrew Walker, have you now decided to bring your partner publicly" one of media asked him
"Hmm.... Yes yes" he lied, as he grinned
He didn't expect that, he could see and notice how Samantha was all over him, and it irritated him
"how can someone be this naive and unappealing" he said to himself as he faked his smile, while waving to the media.
The debut ended and it was time for them to depart, just then Andrew was summoned to the police station for questioning.
The eyewitness had reported the incident and explained the culprit's appearance, but since it was so dark and late in the night, the eye witness couldn't recognise the face. But the description matched Andrew's appearance, also the logo on his car.
"No officer, he has been with me, I invited him for my debut and he honored it, how can you just accuse someone so innocent?" Samantha flared up at the police station, she came as a witness for his presence.
All this while, Ella stood still and kept wondering how a lady like herself would be so naive and insensitive, she laughed within her and thought of Samantha like a tool they needed at that moment and when done with it, they will dispose of her like an empty shell.
"Please, help me find my mother! She's missing!!" A young man said loudly from the other end of the station, it was the information department. Ella turned around as she panicked.
It was Jason, his fiancée, who came running to the police station to give a missing person report. One could see he had been stressed from finding his mother.
Ella couldn't turn back, he didn't want Jason to know he was there and wanted to feign ignorance about the whole incident.. She stepped outside to give a call, but found out that she had missed calls already from Jason.
"Hello Jason, I've been trying to reach Mom, Have you
heard from her today?" Ella said, pretending.
