9 NOVEMBER 2017 The bar – or the pub as the English liked to call it – was quiet when Emily entered. She spotted Rowan straightaway, but he didn’t notice her. His eyes were fixed on his phone. She hesitated a moment before taking the few steps separating her from the table he occupied in the middle of the floor. “Hi.” He looked up from his phone screen, a little lost at first, but then his face lit up when he recognised her. “Hi there. Sorry, I didn’t see you. I was engrossed in Facebook.” Rowan blushed a little, as if he had been in the middle of something morally questionable. “That’s OK.
