Chapter Sixteen
IN SPITE OF HIS UNCERTAINTY about what to do next, by the following morning, Rafferty’s subconscious had done his work for him. It was clear to him now that he had taken a wrong path somewhere in his investigation. So he would have to retrace his steps and go back over everything he had done. Hopefully, this time, it would lead him to the right person. More specifically, and a lot more difficult, he would have to do it without Superintendent Bradley finding out. Which was going to be a tall order.
But stuff Bradley and his crime figures and clear-up rates. He would start, as before, with Sutherland’s friends. Maybe their memories had improved by now.
He was lucky and found all four friends together in Gavin Harold’s flat when he went to see Harold that evening.
