SavingAria

The news brought so much relief to Bruce, and he paid keen attention to hear who his savior was. “Her name is Aria Garcia.” “Garcia?” Bruce knew that the name sounded very familiar, but that was not entirely relevant at that moment. It had been ten years since the lady saved him, and he couldn’t get the chance to properly thank her. All he wanted was to show her how grateful he was. “Where is she? Take me to her?” He instructed, but Enzo was interrupted by the sound of vehicles speeding toward them. There were ten luxurious cars of the highest standard, and it seemed as though a very important person was in the convoy. It wasn’t long before the cars pulled over and one of the doors was opened widely. A man in his early fifties rushed out and knelt before Bruce. His face expressed intense agitation, and he couldn’t stop the balls of sweat that trickled down his face. “I am so sorry for coming late, Lord Spencer! I had waited for you at the boundary of the City, thinking you were going to be there!” “And who are you?” Bruce asked, ignoring the explanation that the man had given. “My name is Seth Rodris! I am the City’s senior advisor! The Mayor sent me to welcome you with these escort! He demanded that you be taken to the City Hall where a bouquet has been prepared for you!” Seth bowed until his head touched the ground, unbothered about the state of his tuxedo while he struggled with his anxiety. “Mmh.” Bruce glanced at the cars before returning his gaze to Seth who was still waiting for his response. “I see.” He cleared his throat. “Well, tell the Mayor that I have more important things to attend to. I will see him when I want to.” “Erm.” Seth raised his right hand slowly, seeking permission to speak. “What is it?” Bruce asked, his countenance expressing his impatience. “The Mayor will not be so pleased that you didn’t honor his invitation, Lord Spencer. I beg you, please reconsider.” Bruce wasn’t happy that Seth was persistent, but he understood that the Mayor’s senior Advisor was just trying to keep his job. “Maybe you didn’t get the memo, Seth. But I answer to no one. No one!” Bruce pointed out, causing Seth to swallow hard saliva. “But people are already waiting for your arrival at the City Hall, and we have so many gifts to present to you, My Lord! We have gold! Diamonds! Rubies, and even the prettiest women will be there to make you happy!” “The Mayor has also offered to launch a project worth millions in your name, and so many other business owners want to meet with you!” Seth saw that his words didn’t entice Bruce, and he was forced to stop being persistent. “I will do as you have instructed, Lord Spencer! I will pass your message across to the Mayor.” He stood up to leave. “Wait.” Bruce called him back with a calm but imperative tone. “Leave two of these cars.” “Gladly!” Seth nodded without hesitation. “I will leave two guards to protect you as well.” He added, but his words sounded like an insult to the General. “I am sorry.” He looked away at once. “It is you who needs protection. You may leave.” Seth went away at once after he had instructed some of the men he came with to leave two cars for Bruce. Bruce got into one of the cars alongside Enzo while the two soldiers who accompanied him rode in the other one. They were on the road for a couple of minutes until they arrived in front of an old building that housed majority of the less privileged in the City. “Is this where she lives?” Bruce asked with so much disbelief, staring at the ramshackle building that was leaning to one side, barely clinging to its foundation. “I discovered that her family lost everything because she saved you. Her father was one of the best Attorneys in this City, but he was disbarred and ousted by his family for defending you in court.” A rush of guilt and sympathy surged into Bruce as he learned that he was the reason why Aria and her family knew so much pain. At that moment, his desire to see her increased, and he swore to make up for everything she had lost. “There she is!” Enzo pointed at the lady walking out of the main entrance to the building. “She is the one?” Bruce could barely recognize her. Aria was clad in a long gown that almost looked like a rag and the apron she tied around her waist and her neck indicated that she had become a maid. Her beauty was still intact, but along with her staggering steps were looks of exhaustion and despair. Without hesitation, Bruce alighted from the car and hurried toward Aria who didn’t realize that someone was moving toward her until he got really close. The moment Aria recognized Bruce, a loud gasp erupted from her mouth, leaving her dumbfounded for a while. “You?!” She became vexed, reminded that Bruce was the same person who caused her and her family to suffer. Tears slowly left her glands while her chest began to rise gradually, revealing her anger and pain. “You ruined my life! I helped you and you decided to vanish without saying a word!” “I am sorry, Aria.” Bruce went closer to her and pulled her gently while he consoled her, caressing her blonde hair. “I am here now. Everything is going to be alright, I promise you.” Aria managed to stop crying, but the look on her face showed that something was at stake and she had to let it out at once. “They have my son! They took him! Help me!” She pleaded, almost kneeling before Bruce but he grabbed her at once. “They said he paid my father to stop his brother from going to jail, but he failed them! Now they want their money! Save my son, I beg you!” “You have a son?” He asked, but Aria was more focused on saving her son. “You must help me! I beg you! They promised to kill him if I didn’t bring the money they said my father owes them! I don’t want to lose him!” Aria’s tears returned, and Bruce was moved to help at once. “Tell me who they are, Aria, and leave the rest to me.” He responded, a look of confidence and dominance on his face.
