Grabbing my folder, I darted quickly into the hall. The man with the crimson face slammed the door behind me and I jumped in surprise as he started yelling in wrath.
"He did it again!" The man shouted. "He’s tested me to the very limit, Henderson! He managed to have himself jailed for s****l assault!"
"Christain j, I’m sure he didn’t—"
"The f**ck he didn’t!" The enraged guy - Christain j – screamed back. "I’ve had it up to here with Eric !" I peered at Christain j through the frosted glass panes of the door. "I can’t handle it anymore! I have to do something!"
Marcus murmured something too quietly for me to hear.
A second later, the door opened. Christain j stared out at me.
"You," he said. "Come here."
Nervously, I stepped back into the meeting room. I didn’t know what was going to happen - were they going to toss me out because I’d overheard something sensitive? Would I have to sign a non-disclosure agreement? My brain was whirling.
Christain j moved around me in a circle, taking me in from all aspects.
"You look smart," he observed.
I nodded. "I am," I answered uncomfortably.
Christain j nodded. " Are you up for a challenge?"
I nodded. "Yes, sir," I said. "Always."
Christain j grinned. He turned to Marcus and clapped his hands. "This is it," he said. Spinning back around, he stretched his hand out to shake.
Nervously, I pressed my fingers against his. Christain j shook my hand firmly and grinned.
"Congratulations," he said. "You’ve been employed at Creovation."
"What?" My jaw fell and I started smiling so widely that my cheeks hurt.
"Yes," Christain j answered calmly. "And your secretary and personal assistant is going to be my son, Eric ."
I gaped. "What?"
Christain j nodded. "Keep him in line," he added. "It’ll be the hardest aspect of your work, by far." Clapping me on the shoulder, he strolled out, whistling jauntily.
Nervously, I looked at Marcus. "Is this for real?" I asked gently.
Marcus nodded. When I observed that he wasn’t smiling, my stomach twisted.
"Yes," Marcus responded. "This is extremely real."

"How the heck could you do anything so irresponsible?" Dad yelled, pacing around his office with his hands thrown in the air. "You’re twenty-seven f**cking years old! How many times do I have to tell you - behave yourselves! You’re not a f**cking kid anymore!"
I glanced up at him before slouching down on the leather couch. "Yeah, I get it," I said in exasperation. "Can I go now?"
"No!" Dad snapped.
I rolled my eyes and stood up. "I’m not a kid," I remarked tartly. "Just like you mentioned. I don’t have to remain here. I don’t have to do any of this shit."
My father turned to me, looking purple with fury. "You can’t keep acting like a spoilt child," he growled, swinging a finger in the air. "This is it, Eric ! I’ve had enough!"
