Chapter 16People walking the aisles on the ferry swayed with the roll of the boat. It was now mid- September and the winds were early for this time of year. Several crossings were cancelled from Vancouver Mainland to Vancouver Island across the Georgia Straight waterway. However, the Sunshine Coast where Georgia lived was a peninsula cut off from the Mainland by the Coastal Mountains. Georgia was grateful for the protected waters between Gibsons and North Vancouver. The trip across this open stretch of water took only fifteen minutes of the forty minute voyage. Georgia sat by the window of the ferry watching the huge waves and white water churn.
