Chapter 17

"She's still awake." I heard tita Gemi voice said.

"Hi mom, dad." masayang bati ni Gem sa mommy at daddy niya na kakadating. Lumapit siya para humalik sa dalawa.

"Ohh, Darrow you're here." gulat naman na utas ng aking doctor. Darrow's auntie.

Apat silang pumasok sa loob ng silid. Tita and Tito, Dr. Senny Munar and one nurse.

Tita Gemi stand on the end of my bed while smiling at me sweetly, on her back is tito Amer that looking at me seriously but Dr. Munar the one who got my attention. Naabutan ko ang makahulungang ngiti ni doktora sa kaniyang pamangkin

"Goo evening, sir, ma'am, tita Sen." Darrow greeted quickly with politeness.

Bahagyan pang napatayo si Darrow kaya nakaagaw ng pansin. Kunot-noong napabaling sa kaniya si tita Gemi, nagtagal ang tingin niya kay Darrow before she turned to me, seem like she's asking me if 'why this man's here'? I can't answer her kaya umiwas na lamang ako ng tingin na para bang hindi kunwari napansin ang titig niya.

"Ohh, good evening." Tita greeted back as she take a glanced to Darrow. "How's your feeling darling?" baling sa akin ni Tita na lumapit sa akin upang makahalik sa aking noo kaya bahagyang napalayo si Darrow upang bigyan ng space si Tita.

"I'm fine naman po, Tita." ngiti ko kay Tita.

"Is your staying here is fine?" tanong naman ni tito Amer dahilan upang mapabaling ako sa kaniya, I caught him looking at Darrow darkly.

I turned to Darrow and saw that he's looking at tito Amer with his usual serious face. And I thought Tito will going to ask me but I was wrong. Though, it kinda give me a relief.

"Hmmmm, I'm just a little bored here po." reklamo ko upang makuha lamang muli ang atensyon ni Tito.

I had a bad feeling that he's not satisfied that Darrow's here right now.

"The doctor's have a news for you, but you need to check first." singit ni Tita sa masayang tono.

I nodded. I turned to Darrow and smiled, he smiled back a little but I feel that it was full of care.

I wish tita Gemi news was good, huh.

Sinimulang suriin ako. Gaya ng dati ay maingat na sinuri ang vital sign ko, ang dalawang mga mata ko at ang iba ay hindi ko na nasundan pa. Bumaling muli ako kay Darrow na kahit nasa bandang likuran na siya ay nagawa ko pa rin siyang ngitian. Seryoso ang mga mata niyang pinapanood ang ginagawang pagsusuri sa akin but I noticed that he looks worried.

"You're now on a good condition, miss de Versa." naagaw lang ang aking atensyon nang magsalita si Dr. Munar. "But we need to continue observing you as of now, sa ikalawa o ikatlong araw ay maaari ka ng makalabas." Dr. Munar explained.

"Really doc?" I asked, can't hide my happiness.

Doctor Munar smiled. "Yes, but you need to rest more and you should take back all the strengths you lost." she warned

Excitedly, I nodded. "I will po, doc!"

May kaonti pang inayos ang nurse sa nakaturok na suwero sa akin bago nagligpit ng mga gamit. Dr. Munar is observing what the nurse doing on me and everytime our eyes meet she's smiling at me, I don't know what should I do but I smiled back at her a little.

She's Darrow auntie, is she know that Darrow's courting me? Maybe not because Zurina was there as Darrow's fiancee.

Speaking of Zurina. She should pay what the damage she caused in my restaurant at sa akin din. But ontheotherhand, because of what she did she gave me a quick time to know about my condition, but still she shouldn't do that to me!

"If you don't feel anything bad and if you doesn't have any question, it's all for today." Dr. Munar announced. "You should rest now, miss de Versa to make your feelings more better."

"Yes po, doc." masigla kong saad.

Unang lumabas ang nurse na kasama ni Dr. Munar. While Dr. Munar said her goodbye to me and after that she turned her back na to go out inside the room while ngunit nang makalapit sa banda ni Darrow ay tumigil siya, seems she was going to say something to Darrow.

Kaya kahit nasa harapan ko si tita Gemi ay nasa kay Darrow at doktora Munar parin ang aking buong atensyon, I want to know what they gonna to talk about!

"Kairra, get a long rest, okay." ani tita Gemi na hindi ko na masunda dahil ang atensyon ay na kay Darrow at Dr. Munar.

"You done all your meetings today?" rinig kong tanong ni doktora sa kaniya.

"Yes." he answered shortly but politely.

"You sure?" pagkumpirma ni doctor Munar.

Darrow seriously nodded as his answer.

"Good, then." tango rin ni doktora bago nitapik ng isang beses ang balikat ni Darrow bilang paalam.

"Kairra!" pag-agaw ng atensyon sa akin ni tita Gemi.

Gulat akong napabaling sa kaniya "Po, Tita?"

"Sabi ko, rest for now."

"Opo, tita." mabilisan kong tugon.

Lumingon ako kay Dr. Munar na papalabas na ngunit bago pa siya tuluyang makalabas sa kwarto ay inagaw ko na muna ang atensyon niya. I have something important to ask.

"Doc." I called.

"Yes, anything else, Kairra?" lingon niya sa akin.

Nagdalawang-isip ako kung tatanungin pero sa huli ay nahihiya ko ng tinanong. "Hmmm, am I allow to use... cellphone?"

Natahimik naman sila dahil sa aking tanong. I noticed my relatives wondering now because of what I asked. Mabilis pa akong nag-isip ng iba pang dahilan dahil sa tingin ko ay hindi sapat ang sinabi ko upang payagan ako.

"Hmmm, I'm kind of..." I trailed off. "bored here." sabay ngiwi ko.

Sana lamang ay pumayag si doktora. I'm really bored here! I hope she will understand me.

"Baka makasama pa iyan sayo, coz." Singit ni Gem na nasa sofa.

I rolled my eyes and ignore her opinion! I focused on Dr. Munar and waited what she will going to say.

"It's okay, but don't use too much." Dr. Munar declared.

Hindi ko mapigilang hindi mapangiti ng malaki sa saya. Mabilis kong binalingan si Gem na nakataas ang kilay ngayon. Ohh, ano ka ngayon Gem? Nagtitigan kami at hindi ko mapigilang hindi magmayabang, my wide smile trying to pissed her!

Nang nag-iwas na siya ng tingin ay namataan ko si Darrow, he's scowling while his left eyebrow arching, seems like he doesn't want what I suggested to my doctor. Aluh, I suggested it to text him when I'm bore! Why he's scowling?

Ngumisi na lamang ako, mas lalo pang umangat ang kilay niya sa ginawa kong pagngisi. I tried to raise my brow too, tila sinusukat ang kaniya. Was he mad?

"I'll go now, just call me when there's a problem." paalam ni Dr. Munar.

"Thanks, doc." tipid kong sinulyapan si doktora Munar.

"We want to talk you, doc." singit ni tita Gemi.

I wonder, but maybe it's only about the bill or it's about something? I guess so.

"Follow me in my office." hayag ni doktora.

"We will, doc." si Tita.

"Rest now, Kairra." paalala ni tito Amer.

I just nodded to Tito dahil atensyon ay na kay Darrow parin. He's still scowling. What his problem ba.

Naagaw ni Dr. Munar ang aking atensyon when she tap Darrow shoulder again then whispered something and smiled while Darrow just nod a little. Sinundan ko pa ng tingin si doktora until she finally gone on my sight.

I'm curious about what she whispered to Darrow, seem she's happy, though.

"Rest darling, we will just talked Dr. Munar." si tita Gemi na ngumiti sa aking harapan.

"'bout what tita?" kunot-noo kong tanong, hindi mapigilan.

"Just rest." taging saad niya, hindi sinagot ang aking tanong.

"There's a problem po ba?" dagdag ko pang tanong.

She quickly shook her head. "It's nothing, just rest." she then gave me a wide smile.

"Don't worry, Kairra." si tito Amer.

"Huh, okay." saad ko na lamang.

I hope isn't really nothing. I hope they're not lying at me again!

Nag-paalam sila at ibinalita na bukas pa makakadalaw si ate Zen at kuya Ald, for me it's okay naman. I know they were too busy. Kahit na may pag-aalinlangan ay nagpaalam nagawa paring magpaalam ni tita Gemi kay Darrow ngunit si Tito ay deretso na lamang na lumabas sa silid.

I don't know what they thinking but it's a relief that didn't bother to ask to me why Darrow is here. But it seem they have thoughts on their mind about him. Nararamdaman ko lamang, ngunit hindi ako sigurado.

Pagkaalis ng Tito at Tita ay bumalik si Darrow sa upuang nasa tabi ng aking kama. Katahimikan ang bumalot ngunit pagkatapos ng ilang minuto ay narinig ko ang malakas na pagtikhim ni Gem.

"Did you already had you dinner, Darrow?" Gem asked silently.

"Yeah." tipid na sagot ng katabi ko.

Tinitigan ko siya pagkatapos ay pinagtaasan ng kilay. He's feature was too rough! I started to travel my eyes from his thick eyebrow, dark vision, pointed nose, his red thin lips and overall it was really rough but everytime he give me a hold it was soft. How could he do it!?

"Okay." balik na tipid na saad ni Gem. "Ikaw Kairra, do you wanna eat?" lipat na tanong niya sa akin.

"Nope, I'm full."

"Okay, I'm willing to eat alone." She murmured.

Hindi ko na nabalingan pa ng tingin ang pinsan dahil nagsalita si Darrow sa aking harapan.

"You should to rest now, you need it." paalala niya

"Hindi pa ako antok." I smiled.

Hindi siya nagsalita, madilim na tumitig lamang sa akin. Seems he want to ask me something ngunit hindi magawa.

"What?" I uttered. "May problema ba?"

He sighed heavily first before he speak. "Why you need to use a phone?" tanong niya sa malalim na boses.

Napataas ang kilay ko sa kahihiyang naisip na dahilan kanina kung bakit nga ba. I groan silently as I bit my lips and take away my eyes to him, pretending that didn't heard him.

"What time ka uuwi?" pang-iiba ko sa usapan dahil nararamdaman parin ang kahihiyan para sa sarili.

I feel my face again heated!

"When you're asleep." sagot niya.

"After here uuwi kana, right?" tanong ko pa.

He just nodded.

Wala na akong sunod na maitanong kung kaya't nanahimik na lamang ako. Siguro'y sapat na ang mga tanong ko upang makalimutan niya ang tanong sa akin.

Minutes pass while silent remain on us, he only staring at me for a while when after a few minutes he lean on me and successfully reached my ear. Napalunok ako sa gulat dahil sa ginawa niya.

"You were avoiding my first question, huh?" he whispered slowly but it seems like sounds dangerous.

Pinigilan ko ang paglaki ng aking mata. "I-I'm not." saad ko sa mahinang boses.

"Why you need to use phone?" pang-uulit niyang tanong sa aking tenga, he's still leaning at me!

I swallowed hard because of how closed he's with. His fragrant scent was to well in the nose!

"I-I already told... that... that I'm bore here!"

"Really? Is that all? Or are you texting or calling someone?" he asked with his serious tone.

Hindi ako sumagot. Pinag-iisipan pa kung sasabihin ba ang totoong dahilan sa kaniya o hindi. But, why he's thinking that I'm calling or texting someone!?

"You won't really going to answer me, huh." pagsusuplado niya at bumalik na sa maayos na pagkakaupo.

So I guess, I don't have an options.

"It's true that I'm bored her and... and I also want..." pambibitin ko. "to text you." mabilisan kong saad.

"You want, what?" tanong niya pa na parang hindi narinig ang aking sinabi.

Alam kong mabilis iyon, pero alam ko ring naintindihan niya dahil malinaw naman ang pagbigkas ko. What this man want ba? I already told him!

"Tsk" pagsusuplada ko.

"I didn't get it." aniya.

I glare on him, he's now smirking. Nagtatago ng ngiti! Ayystt this man!

"I want to text you." mahinahon ko ng tugon para maintindihan niya na.

"Text me huh, really?" he asked huskily.

"Ou nga!" nainis ko ng tugon dahil sa kahihiyan sa harap niya, paulit-ulit pa siya!

He chuckled softly.. "Okay."

Medyo tumagilid ako sa kaniya para hindi na makita pa ang kapulahan ng aking mukha. I want to hide my face like a tomatoes!

Pagkatagilid ay agad kong naramdaman ang magaan na paghaplos niya sa aking buhok. Someday, I'll miss his silent touch on my hair, I'm being used to it! Silently, dinama ko ito that even how many times I feel embarrassed in front of him, his touch make me feel better in the end.

"I'll going to sleep now." mahinang saad ko sa katahimikan. "You can go now."

Ilang minuto pa ang pinalampas namin bago siya nagpasiya magpaalam at umalis, he need to rest too. Sakto naman ang pagdating ni tita Gemi at tito Amer pagkaalis ni Darrow. Hindi na sila nagpang-abot pa.

Hindi rin nagtagal si Tito at Tita, they need to go home early to rest as well because tommorow they have a meetings and they need to be there. It's okay na rin para no mo question for me muna. Si Gem naman ay maaga ring nakatulog sa malaking sofa dulot siguro ng pagod, pagkabalik ni nana Mirna ay malalim na ang pagkakatulog niya.

Tanging ako at si nana Mirna na lamang ang tanging gising. Nana Mirna making herself busy by watching a movie, tila hinihintay pa akong makatulong bago siya magpahinga.

"Hija, magpahinga ka na." maya maya ay paalala niya ulit.

"Opo, nana." taging tugon ko.

Ilang sandali ng hindi nakatiis ay binuksan ko ang aking selpon para matext si Darrow. Buti na lamang ay dala ni nana Mirna ang selpon ko kaninang pagdating niya. But I remember I don't have Darrow number!

How could I text him!?

Ngunit ilang sigundo lamang ay may dumating na mensahe galing sa unknown number.

Unknown:

Get a long rest. It's Darrow, please save my number. Sorry to inform you late.

Napatakip ako sa aking bibig sa gulat nang maramdaman ko ang biglaang paglakas na kalabog ng aking dibdib. The man who texting and sending me foods was him? It's really him!? I really don't know!

I've a feeling before but I didn't confirm it because I felt that I'm just assuming something. But now, it's really him! It was really Darrow!

I quickly changed that unknown name and put his name. Binalikan ko ang mga una niyang mensahe noong hindi ko pa alam na siya iyon, binasa ko ng nakangiti ang iilan niyang mensahe hanggang sa ngayon.

I excitedly type a message for him.

Ako:

Are you already home?

It sent quickly. Minutes didn't pass when my phone beep. Nabasa ko ang pangalan niya sa screen kaya mabilis kong binuksan ang mensahe niya.

Darrow:

I'm on my way.

Huh? Ilang minuto na ang nakalipas, ah. Malayo ba ang bahay niya o kung saan siya tumutuloy. Siguro'y may dinaanan pa siya o traffic? Maybe.

I realized that there's so much things I didn't yet know about him. I wonder if he know me very well?

Ako:

Please take care.

Matapos ng pinadalang mensahe, ibababa na sana ang selpon ngunit agad itong tumunog. May reply agad siya.

Darrow:

Please, rest now.

Ako:

I will.

Ako:

Rest too when you're home.

Nakangiti akong nakatutok sa aking selpon. Hindi na mabitiwan. He could still reply even he's driving? It's dangerous!

Darrow:

I home now.

Finally!

Nakahinga ako ng malauwag dahil doon. But antagal niyang nakauwi! Siguro'y malayo talaga ang sakanila.

Darrow:

I will just take a shower, then I will go to bed.

Ako:

Okay.

Darrow:

Please, sleep now.

Kahit gusto ko pa siyang i-text ay pipigilan ko na lamang ang sarili dito. He need to rest, I am too. Anyway, he said that he's going to visit me tomorrow.

I'm excited to see him again tomorrow!

Masaya akong ng type ng panghuling mensahe para sa kanya.

Ako:

Opo, ito na. Goodnight sayo.

Darrow:

Goodnight.

Even I'm sleeping I still feel the happiness inside me. Though, for the pass few days isn't really good but this day still makes me happy.

There's so much unpredictable days we didn't expect to become happy or opposite. But I realized that when one of the happiest day came in our life feel free to feel every seconds of time because we don't know when our next happiest days will come again. It's once in a blue moon, indeed!
