Dane's POV
"She's an hybrid, Alpha and it's forbidden for you both to marry." Kali, the witch said.
My brows creased, a frown setting in. An hybrid?
"I would have felt it if she was, why did I feel nothing? Is that the reason behind the curse— our union?" I asked, curiosity gripping the better part of me.
"Yes, Alpha but there's more to it." Kali answered, stirring the portion on fire. She stopped and looked up at me. "There's something hidden about her which I cannot see."
My gaze lingered on Kali as I kept wondering if she was telling the truth.
"Is there anything you aren't telling me?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.
Kali shook her head. "Of course, not, Alpha. The more I try to look into it, the harder it becomes and my sight is restrained."
I left Kali's abode, deep in thought. I chose to believe her because she had always been accurate with her answers but this time, it was so confusing.
I went back to the palace and there I met my father and stepmother — Callantha.
We all lived at the top notch coast in the pack but in different chambers. Though I possessed the largest and mine was bigger than theirs.
"Dad," I greeted, bowing then turned to Callantha. We weren't on good terms and I've always believed that she was the main reason why dad banished my mother from the Pack.
It was ten years ago, then Callantha was still a courtesan in the palace. She was one of dad's concubines but had bigger visions, she coveted the post of the Luna and that was why she framed my mom, making dad believe she had an affair with one of the palace guards.
I knew it all but dad would never believe me.
"You're here." I simply said, my gaze lingering on her for some seconds.
"Yes, we came here to see your bride. The one who got wolf-less on her wedding day." Callantha mentioned, her face glinting with contempt.
I ignored her words, drifting my gaze back to my father. "She is in my chamber, father. You'll get to see her at evening."
"What occasion is at evening?" Callantha asked, raising a brow.
"A presentation of my bride to the Pack."
Callantha pressed on, "Your wolf-less mate you meant to say."
"Why did you bring her home when you know you aren't compatible? She is an hybrid!" Dad yelled, balling his fists.
"You could've just rejected her and let her be."
I gulped down, thinking of what to say. I didn't understand the main reason why I didn't reject her. I felt remorseful for all I've done, I had tortured her, thinking she slept with another man.
I could've allowed Reyna's father to kill her, all my actions aren't understandable to me. If it was love then I have to end it right away, I had vowed never to love any lady after what happened to my mom.
She could've married another Alpha mightier than him but chose to be with him for love and that same person she loved, made her life miserable.
That same person never trusted her and chose a mere outsider over his wife who sacrificed all for him— cutting ties with her family.
Wait, how did dad find out Reyna is an hybrid? Ah, Kali must have told her. How bad news run wild!
"It's my choice, father. I have decided to keep her with me, as my slave." I said, my voice firm. My gaze flickered between dad and stepmother who exchanged glances.
"As your slave?" Father scoffed. "What's the use? You have as many slaves as you want, why bring in an hybrid when you know the consequences! It's forbidden, Dane, why do you choose to be deviant!"
"He's just like his mother, he'll never listen."
I glared hard at Callantha who held tightly onto father's arms as if calling on him to defend her.
"This is a conversation between my dad and I, with due respect do not interfere and leave my mother out of this!" I snapped, my dark squinted eyes boring into hers. Her gaze softened and soon tears began trickling down her cheeks— oh how she is so good at shedding crocodile tears.
"Honey, what have I done to your son?! He treats me so much disgust, he never listens and throw tantrums when I speak the truth." Callantha sobbed, her fake tears wetting father's expensive silk robe.
Dad patted her back, casting a tender look at her. "Wipe your tears, darling." He said, dabbing at her tears with the edge of his sleeves. After consoling her, he turned to look at me, his face contorted in rage. "What audacity, Dane! This is my wife and you speak to her so plainly, apologise immediately!"
I hesitated, furrowing my brows. Apologise to this b***h and husband snatcher? The one who ruined my mom's life?
I could see the rage in my dad's eyes and I knew better than to defy his orders. After sighing, I bowed a bit, apologising. "Accept my apologies, I am... sorry."
I would not raise my head until she told me to do so and I could see, through the corner of my eyes, the satisfied smile on her lips. She indeed is a witch, a sly fox! I would always hate her.
"Do not try that next time, stand!" Callantha commanded, her voice dripping with authority.
I clenched my fists, standing straight. She could just endure this while it lasts, she's only getting all this special treatment because father is here.
"I do not consent to this. You're on your own, Dane. The Pack is now yours and I chose you to be the Alpha because I thought you could handle it but now I doubt it." Dad paused, "If your forbidden union with that hybrid results into anything worse, you will face the consequences and I'll have you step down as the Alpha immediately. Then, Liam would take over!"
"F...father. Liam? Liam isn't capable of handling the affairs of the pack." I objected, raising my brows.
"I do not care, I have said my words. The stake is high and your capability will tell. Any glitch, the Pack's would be Liam's!"
I watched him walk away with his vicious bride who kept a sinister smile on her face as she walked away.
I know she'd do anything to see my downfall. Liam is incapable, he can never handle this pack!
Certain questions ran through my mind in waves. I didn't want to let go of Reyna and neither do I want the Alpha's title to be given to Liam.
I hated him just like I hated his mother. He pretends to be the good son in dad's presence but when he's away, he's nothing but a wolf in a sheep's clothing — a stinking pretended, a camouflage!
I left for my chamber and pushed the door open. My gaze met with Reyna who was seated on the bed in tears.
She quickly wiped it off when she saw me. Standing up, she sniffed.
"Master." She called, her eyes fixed on the marbles floor.
My mind wandered to what Kali the witch had told me. Reyna's parents were plain werewolves, why would she be an hybrid!
Is her mom promiscuous just like her Pack had claimed?
"Tell me about yourself, Reyna." I said, "Who is your real father?"
She looked up, a shocked expression on her face. The moment her gaze met mine, she drifted it back to the floor.
"Alpha Sebastian is my father. He really is my father, my mom was never promiscuous." She answered, though her voice held one of fear.
Looking at the darker side, our union caused what had happened to her. An Alpha from my lineage should never marry an hybrid, talk less of trying to link wolves but I did that with Reyna.
I could have smelt it the first time I met her but I didn't get any sign of her being a ln hybrid. Why would the revelation only come on our wedding day?
I sighed, my hands brushing through my long black hair. We just have to stop discussing about this or I'll go crazy.
Cole is going nuts and every time he craves for her presence just like me. I pulled Reyna closer, making her lay her head on my chest.
I heard her sniff, she was crying.
"And what did I tell you about crying?" I rasped, my voice husky.
"I.. I'm sorry, Dane." She responded, wiping her tears.
Cole whined at the mention of my name.
"Call me Master!" I commanded, "Is that too much to do?"
Her presence, voice, scent…. everything about her was killing me slowly.
"Kiss me, Reyna." I asked, my husky voice coming out like a plea. I would have just have my way without asking but I... didn't want to hurt her more.
My feelings are growing more wilder than I ever expected.
