Morgan POV
As soon as Garrett dropped me off I locked my door and got changed for bed, slipping on my shorts and a tank top I laid on the dingy bed staring up at the ceiling. That man invoked feelings inside of me that I'd never experienced, had never wanted to experience. I had zero interest in the opposite s*x, my past making me distrustful and fearful of them. Knowing they were monsters and there was nothing I as a woman could do about it.
I closed my eyes, trying to shut out the feelings that were swirling through me, confusing me. His voice alone, so deep and masculine, but smooth like fine whiskey had me reacting. He seemed nice, and I was clearly attracted to him, but I didn't trust him. Didn't trust anyone and I wouldn't. I needed to keep my wits about me. Especially since Garrett seemed to be too nice. Who gave a stranger a job just like that and paid them more than triple what anyone else would? My mind drifted, he wanted something from me, of course he did. He was a man afterall. He would want me on my back with my legs spread, but he wouldn't get it.
If I wasn't so desperate for cash I would probably leave but I had nothing and being in Grizzly Falls felt like I was supposed to be here. The customers had all been very nice, none of the men had checked me put or made lewd comments towards me, which quite frankly was a little strange. Even working in a diner I had all kinds of unwanted attention from the male patrons, but not here. The men here all seemed to show zero interest in me, except for Garrett. I caught him a few times, his eyes on me and following me about the room. I couldn't quite read him, but I knew he was checking me out, though for some reason I hadn't hated it. I hadn't felt uncomfortable or like I was a piece of meat. I almost felt like when he would look at me he was looking at an expensive piece of art. Something to be treasured, to be cared for.
Once more I shook my head of those thoughts and curled up on my side. I needed to sleep. I wanted to walk around the town and check it out. I had a few extra dollars, thanks to Garrett, and I definitely needed some new clothes. Maybe they had a thriftstore in town I could check out. As I drifted off to sleep my mind wandered back to the big bear of a man with deep, brown soulful eyes. Those eyes were the last thing I seen as I finally succumbed to slumber.
Knocking. Why was there knocking? I swear I had just closed my eyes, but the sunlight peaking through the thin curtains said otherwise. I rolled onto my back and stretched just as I heard more knocking on my door. Puzzled I slipped from the bed and took the two steps to the door. I left the security chain in place and opened it a crack, squinting my eyes. "Hello?" There in front of my door was a short, gorgeous brunette with the biggest smile on her face.
"Morgan?" The stranger grinned up at me. "I'm Bethy, Garrett's little sister. I just wanted to come over and introduce myself, bring you some coffee and then drag you out for shopping." She spoke really fast, almost to fast for my sleep addled brain to comprehend the words coming out of her mouth.
I stood there silently, trying and failing to process what was happening. I could just imagine I looked like a fish out of water, mouth gaping open like an i***t. But this was something I hadn't expected and something I wasn't used to. I caught her name and that she was Garrett's sister, but that's all that seemed to penetrate my mind. "Gonna let me in?" The girl grinned wider as she held the coffee towards me through the crack in the door.
I shook myself from my stupor and closed the door before unlatching it and reopening it to let her inside. "Um sorry. I just woke up." I accepted the coffee and stepped aside, gesturing for her to come in. I was sure she would be judging the state of the room, even if it wasn't my Ness, the place wasn't the greatest but it was the only motel in town.
I watched as her face blanched, her nose squinting in disgust. I ran a hand down my face as I made my way to my bag and pulled out a fresh pair of jeans and a t shirt. "Sorry if this is rude, but why are you here?" I asked as I slipped into the bathroom to change.
"Rett told me about you. Said you were new in town and staying here. So I figured I'd come introduce myself. He wasn't lying either. You're absolutely gorgeous."
I looked at her with confusion as I stepped out of the bathroom as I brushed my long, blonde locks. "Who?"
"Huh?" She tilted her head and then let out a soft giggle. "Sorry. Garrett. I call him Rett."
"Oh." I said as I searched for my last hair elastic. Sighing as I picked it up and it snapped. It had been my last one and they were cheap to replace. I tossed it in the garbage can and turned my attention back to the cheerful girl. "Do you often make it a point to meet new to town people?" I said, slightly snarky. I couldn't help it. I'd never had friends and the only people I'd ever interacted with before I left home was the house staff or on occasion my parents. And I didn't trust anyone. Especially not cheerful girls who showed up at my door first thing in the morning because their brother told them about me.
Completely ignoring how rude I had been Bethy fumbled around in her purse before producing a hair tie and holding it out to me before speaking again. I raised my brow questioningly before taking it. "Only those who catch his attention. He's never so much as looked twice at anyone before." He grinned even wider, if that was possible. "So you showing up and catching his eye is pretty big news. And noooooooow that means you and I are gonna be the best of friends and that starts with a shopping trip. So come on. Please? Pretty, pretty please?" She begged.
That had been a lot of information she'd spewed and I needed to process what she'd said. Especially about catching her brothers eye. Resigning myself to a day with a stranger who apparently wanted to be my best friend I stuffed my money in my back pocket along with the room key and nodded. "Um sure. I need some new clothes anyway." Bethy clapped her hands excitedly and grabbed my hand before I could pull it away and dragged me out of the room and into the town.
