Chapter Seven

911 Words
Ellie had never felt so alive. The cool night air rushed through her fur, her paws pounding against the soft earth as she ran through the dense forest. Every sound, every scent, every movement was magnified a thousand times over. She was no longer just Ellie. She was something more. Something wild. Something powerful. Grayson ran beside her, his dark gray fur blending with the shadows, his movements effortless and controlled. He had shifted mid-run, and now, his massive wolf form cut through the trees like a phantom. Ellie couldn’t help but push herself harder, testing the limits of her new body. Her muscles burned, but it was an exhilarating kind of pain—one that made her feel like she could run forever. Grayson let out a low growl, a challenge. Ellie bared her fangs in response, a playful snarl escaping her throat before she surged forward, trying to outpace him. But Grayson was fast. Before she could react, he lunged—his body colliding with hers, sending them both rolling through the underbrush. Ellie let out a surprised yelp as they tumbled together, dirt and leaves flying around them. When they finally came to a stop, Grayson was on top of her, his massive form pinning her down. His glowing gray eyes met hers. For a moment, neither of them moved. Ellie’s heart pounded—not from fear, but from something else. Something undeniable. Grayson slowly backed away, shifting back into his human form as he crouched beside her. “You’re a natural,” he murmured, his voice low and approving. Ellie took a deep breath and let the shift take her. The transformation was smoother this time, less painful. Within seconds, she was human again, her skin flushed from the run, her pulse still racing. She looked at Grayson, her breathing unsteady. “That was…” Grayson smirked. “Addictive?” Ellie let out a shaky laugh. “Yeah. A little.” Grayson’s expression softened. “It only gets better.” Ellie’s stomach tightened at the way he was looking at her—like she was something more than just a lost girl thrown into a world she didn’t understand. Like she was his equal. Before she could say anything, a sharp, unfamiliar scent filled the air. Grayson stiffened. Ellie’s senses sharpened immediately, her instincts kicking in. The scent was bitter, metallic—something that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. They weren’t alone. A low growl rumbled in Grayson’s chest. “Get behind me.” Ellie didn’t argue. A moment later, a figure emerged from the darkness. Caleb. Ellie’s stomach clenched at the sight of him. Even in human form, he radiated danger. His amber eyes glowed in the moonlight, his posture relaxed yet predatory. Behind him, three more wolves lurked in the shadows—his pack. “Relax,” Caleb said, raising his hands in mock surrender. “I’m not here to fight.” Grayson didn’t move. “Then why are you here?” Caleb’s gaze slid to Ellie. “To talk.” Ellie swallowed hard, forcing herself to stand taller. “About what?” Caleb’s lips curved into a slow, knowing smile. “About you, little Alpha.” Ellie clenched her fists. She hated the way he said that—like he already owned a part of her. Caleb took a slow step forward. “You’re strong. I saw it the moment I laid eyes on you. But strength isn’t enough, Ellie. Power means nothing if you don’t know how to use it.” Ellie narrowed her eyes. “And let me guess—you want to be the one to teach me?” Caleb chuckled. “Smart girl.” Grayson growled. “She doesn’t need your help.” Caleb arched a brow. “Really? Because from where I’m standing, she’s surrounded by enemies who want her dead.” His gaze flickered to Ellie. “You think Grayson’s pack can protect you forever? You think he can protect you?” Ellie’s chest tightened. Because the truth was—she didn’t know. She barely understood what she was, let alone how to survive in this world. And Caleb knew that. He took another step forward, lowering his voice. “Join me, Ellie. Be my Luna. Together, we could rule.” Ellie’s breath caught. Grayson let out a vicious snarl. “She’s not yours to claim.” Caleb’s eyes gleamed. “Maybe not. But the Blood Moon is coming. And when it does…” He smirked. “She’ll have to choose.” Ellie’s stomach twisted. The Blood Moon. She had heard whispers of it before. A rare event—one that made werewolves more powerful, more dangerous. It was a time when bonds were solidified. When Alphas claimed their rightful place. And it was only days away. Caleb took a step back, still smirking. “Think about it, little Alpha.” Then, without another word, he and his pack disappeared into the night. The silence left behind was suffocating. Ellie turned to Grayson, her mind racing. “What did he mean? About the Blood Moon?” Grayson hesitated. Then, finally, he said, “It’s a time of power. And for you…it means everything.” Ellie’s pulse pounded. Because she already knew—deep down—what that meant. The Blood Moon wasn’t just about power. It was about choosing. And soon… She would have to make a choice that would change everything.
