(Lena) Cole called me before I even had a chance to open my emails. "Gerald filed the counter response," he said. "I'm sending it to you now. I want you to read it and then call me back." I was at my desk with my first cup of coffee still untouched in front of me. I opened my laptop and found the email and clicked on the attachment. It was twelve pages. Gerald Voss had been thorough, I would give him that. The language was careful and measured and in places almost reasonable sounding if you didn't know what was actually being argued. I read the whole thing before I let myself react to any of it. The core argument was exactly what Cole had told me to expect.
