The Land Between the Universe

1224 Words
From the beginning of the world, it is rare for royal blood to inherit the ability to cross the mythical gate set in the Blood Moon Land, the border that separates the universe. As for the reason, their ability to traverse in between the parallel worlds is unknown. Thus, the few immortals that have access to the border pay no interest in the mere alternate universe that consists of weak mundane. Until... Theo, the youngest prince of Emperor Horatio from the alternate universe, Kingdom of Wind Chime's infirmary. He is none other who fell heir to the rare ability. On his visit, Theo discovers a hundred years of medicinal plants from the deep forest of Unha Valley. In his kingdom, even the deepest mountain reserve had no plants for more than a century. At these interesting facts, he began traverse fort and back for other new medicinal herbs invention. Teleportation has never been this exhausting. Theo dropped to his knees as soon as his feet touched the Blood Moon Land. He had not expected this to be stronger than that. A mortal, channeling a quarter of his cultivation to resurrect Elena, had indeed taken half of his energy. Here in the barren Blood Moon Land, it is only the crimson moon shining endlessly. Thus, that is how the land obtains its title, "The Blood Moon Land". It is also never too dark for the night nor brighter as the day, and the horizon is clouded in a purplish accent of endless dusk. Panting for air, he allowed himself to stumble into his agony. "Your Highness," A dark figure loomed over him. His dead undertone doesn't express any emotion. "This is very unusual of you." His sudden presence was never a surprise to Theo. He inhaled deeply, catching his breath again, "Indeed Guardian, this is weird, I wonder what is wrong with me..." "Know that my existence on this land is to restrain mortals from trespassing the border. Nonetheless, Your Highness..." He paused, clearing his throat, "A piece of my courtesy advice, interfering in mundane matters will only bring disaster. We are considered the deity, confronting death and life is, against nature, Your Highness." He kneeled so as to be closer to Theo for him to be able to hear his red alarm whisper. "Perhaps there is nothing to be worried about. I'm returning to the palace myself. There is no need to acknowledge the guard of my return." "As you request, Your Highness." Theo struggled to get up on his feet again. As their gaze met, he understood that the guardian will never let this off. In the Blood Moon Land, he is neither dead nor alive, he doesn't even have a name. Hence, Theo only knows him by the name of "Guardian", as others had called him. Clothed in a heavy dark hooded cloak, his foot barely touches the ground, possibly this is the reason why there is no sign of his presence or absence. He vanished and returned as his wish. Through the vignette of his hood, his gaze, according to legend, to any mere human, those eyes will show them their worst nightmare. The iris is an ebony color of the night, and his sclera, dark scarlet represents the moon on the land. No secret is able to slip away from those eyes. He knows every little secret hidden... Vanishing into the thin air, Theo is left alone again. Reminiscing to Elena, all of the sudden he regretted not erasing her memory of him. He is supposed to erase his trace, but that woman was able to ward his guard down. The visible thuds still hammering in his chest. Caressing the card she had given him in his bag, her sweet voice still lingering in his ears. "Find me at this address. I will be waiting." She said. Clutching on his chest, trying to tame the erratic thud, he smiled. It had been a long time he had ever felt like this. He decided to return to her world again. In his lifetime, the beautiful Princess Ramona Ares, his betrothed, was the first lady of their neighborhood kingdom who made his heart's beat for the first time. However, Ramona is different, she is a living love drug, her beauty is undeniable, and being the center of every sane man in their universe is expected. But, unlike Elena, the mundane hadn't done anything to him yet. Perhaps they are meant to be together, hence the chemical attraction is there, firm. The closer he is to the border, the grand mythical gate gradually appears until it fully reincarnates into its form. Pacing forward, Theon let himself be immersed in the portal as the exhaustion dragged him again. This time, he was barely able to keep consciousness. Unsure of where he had landed as his teleporting intensity dropped low, he couldn't take control of where his destination was. However, Theo is pretty sure that Ramona is around as his body touches the ground, her familiar scents of fresh flower's fragrance are lingering in the air. What do Elena's scents like? He thought of her again, Elena. He yearned to call her name so much. "Theon!" Indeed, as predicted, Ramona had been waiting for his return. Panicked, she came rushing to his side. Her delicate touch put him on her lap, and the rest was the rumbles and chaos of footsteps approaching him. "Prince Theon is injured, summons the royal physician at once!" Theo heard the command from the background, but he was unable to stay awake. Through his hazy vision, he wished it was Elena, who was by his side at the moment. And by the time Theo comes to his senses again, lying alone in his chamber, he is enlightened to return to Elena as soon as possible. Arousing from the comfort of his bed, the floor felt cold and soft beneath his feet, his head buzzed at every move he made. Theon staggered all the way to refresh-up, he believes this would lighten his discomfort. Indeed, he is wrong. Supporting himself by the mahogany bedpost from stumbling to the floor again, Theo regrets getting up too soon. Taking it slowly this time, he sits at the edge of the bed. He doesn't even bother at the entrance of someone into his bedchamber, the pain is too much to bear now. Seeing the situation Theo is in, the person hastily runs to his side. "Theon," None other than Princess Tiara, his eldest sister, who leads the kingdom's jurisdiction division. "Your internal cultivation is badly injured, you should stay in bed," Tiara suggested, assisting him to return to his bed. "Indeed, no wonder I'm feeling terrific," Theon replied in pain, shutting his eyes as if even the slightest light was hurting him now. "I suggest you drink the medication, Theon. You aren't in the best condition at this moment." Fetching the porcelain cup from the bedside cabinet, Tiara brings it to his lips. Desperate to be better again, he takes the bitter concoction in one gulp. It takes effect as soon as it enters his body, numbing his sensories, and suppressing the pain to a comfortable lethargic. His muscles relaxed, and slowly slumber took him again. Elena..., he whispered her name in his mind before he was completely drawn into the languid consciousness.
