What Dana Finds

433 Words

Dana called me on a Sunday in August and said, "I need to tell you something and I need you not to immediately react." That was never a good beginning. "Tell me," I said. "Vivienne is back in New York." I sat down. "She's been back for three weeks," Dana said. "I found out through someone at the firm she's consulting with. I didn't want to tell you until I had more information." "What information do you have?" "She's not working with Marcus's firm. She's at a different development company across town. She had the baby, a boy, in April. And she's apparently not in contact with the father." I sat with this. "Naomi?" Dana said. "I'm here," I said. "I'm thinking." "You don't have to do anything," Dana said. "I just thought you deserved to know." "Yes," I said. "I did. Thank you."
