After my afternoon snooze by the river I make my way to the central plaza where all of the territories combine. I shift back and pull on a set of yoga pants and oversized t-shirt and under armour trainers I keep in the tree line. Once dressed I make my way out into the central plaza. I get a few nods and bows from the non-royals I pass. And a few 'Good evening your highness' as i make my way over towards the witch territory. Phoebe lives right on the cusp of the central plaza as her mother is the Witch Queens advisor.
"Phoebe I need you" I huff as I walk through her front door.
"So lovely to see you, your highness" Phoebe's mother Bonnie, greets.
"For the last time Bonnie, please call me Aria" I plead
"And for the last time my dear, I will always greet you by your title" she smiles. "Phoebe should be back soon she just had to go and collect a few herbs from the gardens. Something to do with a spell for a friend"
"Am I okay to wait?"
"Of course you are, would you like some tea?"
"Sounds amazing do you have anything with cinnamon in?"
"Of course you and cinnamon, I'm sure your mate will smell like it with how much you love the stuff, have you any idea who it may be?"
"Nope and I don't plan on finding them any time soon. That's why I'm here. I want Phoebe to make me a set of contact lenses similar to my glasses just this time only to stop my mate finding me" I say honestly taking my cup of tea from Bonnie.
"Are you sure about that dear, your mate is the other half of you"
"I'm sure Bonnie, plus I have a horrible feeling that I'm going to be meeting him sooner rather than later unless I've already met them but don't know. I just want to go on my first diplomatic mission and not have any unexpected hiccups shall we say"
Bonnie takes my hand and closes her eyes. "You are right you have already met your mate but I can feel it isn't going to be simple"
"Wait do you know who it is?"
"No, just a feeling I am getting off of your ora. Just remember you have the power to change everything as the chosen one."
"Mum stop scaring the princess, you know she isn't ready for a mate" phoebe mocks as she walks in through the front door. "So whats this I hear someone is going on there first diplomatic mission tomorrow" when Phoebe says it I can't help but squeal in excitement. she's always had this effect on me. We both jump around the front room.
"I shall leave you both to it" Bonnie says giving me a quick hug before getting up and leaving.
"I need.." But im cut off before I can finish my sentence
"These" she says, holding out a contact lens box.
"Wait, how did? Nope never mind I really don't need the answer you always do this."
"So" wiggling her eyebrows, "who's going on the diplomatic missions with you?"
"I have no idea"
"Hoping for Alaric are you?" She says elbowing me. Yes she knows all about my courtship with him.
"Nope, he doesn't even know it was me he was courting. Were we even courting?" I lower my head realising my feelings for him were stronger than I wanted them ever to be.
"You went on days out, he took you to fancy restaurants, small amounts of PDA in the human world. I would say it was courting"
"Well it doesn't matter he doesn't know it was me. Plus our laws not like it was ever anything more than 2 people with similar tastes" I shake my head and looks at the time. "I really have to go. I will text you tomorrow and let you know any details" I stand up giving phoebe a hug before leaving.
"Just try and enjoy your mission sure its not going to be that bad" and with that I left
As I head back to the forest I see the head members of the Royal families arrive at the council building. I hadn't realised they were meeting tonight. I run to catch my parents before they go in.
"Mother" I call just as she reaches the top on the steps "what's going on?"
"There are rumours circulating about cross species mating. And we have crosslings being born. We have to decide what to do about them but I fear it's not going to be easy. The angel queen and demon king are joining us as well. Go home and stay there. I dislike when the demon king visits. It's never good news" she places a kiss on my forehead and I do as instructed and head straight home.
The last time the demon king visited 250years ago over 300 people died. He didn't agree with our criminals being imprisoned and tore through the prison killing all that had life sentences. Execution is never one we care for. After all magic doesn't disappear it moves on which is risky.
Once in I can't help but pace the floor.
My Uni phone buzzes 3 times I look at the screen and see 3 messages from Alaric
'Mon Amour, stay safe'
'Don't venture out alone'
'Mon Amour, let me know you are okay'
'Alaric, what's going on?' I need to know what is going on
'The Demon king is here I need to know you are safe'
'I'm safe, I promise'
Well that wasn't what I had expected at all. It seems the council is rather unsettled by the demon king.
It's midnight when my parents finally come home. I really need to rest ahead of tomorrow's travel. I'm sure someone can fill me in on what's happened
