Ethan and Michael were inside, and Daisy had no way to hide what she'd done. She'd hoped Daniel could protect her, but he'd fallen even faster than she had.
As if a thought suddenly struck her, Daisy scrambled over to Stella, crouching at her feet. She practically threw away any shred of pride, clutching Stella's hand in desperation.
"You called the cops, didn't you? Stella... No, Ms. Rosenberg, I give up. I'm sorry. I was just jealous, and that's why I wanted to hurt you. Please, let me go, okay?"
Stella gently lifted Daisy's chin with a fingertip, staring into her eyes with a smile. "Oh honey, you're not sorry. You're just scared. We both know your apology means nothing."
