I started to recall our last happy moments together. Though I was not relieving them. I was an outsider watching myself in my office at the pack house. I had already caught up on all the paperwork for the day and was ahead of everything else that needed to be done. I was hastily working on the final touches to the up-to-date training schedule for all training groups when Chris decided to walk in. “Hey man. The beta female was able to convince everyone to avoid the area next to the river this afternoon. Also, the head omega was able to prepare lunch for the two of you with some of Ashlynn’s favorite snacks. She mentioned something about her being queasy, so she packed something for that as well.” Chris stated as he sat down in the chair in front of my desk. “Thank you Chris, I appreciate your assistance with this.” I confessed. He grinned and opened his mouth to reply with what was likely a snarky remark when the rest of the guys walked in. “What are you still doing here? Don't you have a picnic to go to?” Jake quickly questioned me. I got up from my seat with a smile on my face. Jake was the only other one of us who had found his mate and had a child. He was the one who suggested I do something nice before the pup arrived. “I'm going now.” Ignoring the rest of the guy’s comments about me being whipped, I walked out the door. I know they just don't understand yet. I mind linked my mate. Me: Hey beautiful, what are you up to? Ashlynn: I'm watching the female warriors since I can't train with them. Me: I was hoping we could squeeze in some alone time, just the two of us, before our little princess arrives and declares us her royal subjects! I could hear her beautiful giggle come through before she responded to me. Ashlynn: Meet me at home. With that she ended our link just as I walked into the kitchen of the pack house. I didn’t get a chance to say anything before Dianne the head omega was handing me a basket full of food. I couldn’t even say thank you because she turned walking off to finish something. “Thank you!” I yelled after her. The only acknowledgment she gave was a nod of her head. When I made it outside the pack house, I sat the basket down and shredded my clothes as I shifted into my wolf jasper. I really needed to learn to undress before I shifted. Oh well I will have Ashlynn order me some more clothes later. I grabbed the basket in between my teeth and took off. Once I reached the house, I placed the picnic basket on the steps and shifted back. I walked inside placing the basket on the kitchen table. I quickly went and found a white t-shirt and some blue basketball shorts. When I was done dressing, I heard Ashlynn enter our home. Our home that will soon be filled with cries of our beautiful pup I thought. I shook my head and with a smile on my face I went to gather my lovely mate. Walking back into the living room I asked, “Are you up for a walk today?” She smiled and simply nodded her head yes. With that I gathered a blanket and the basket, and we headed off. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm golden glow over the pack territory as Ashlynn and I walked to our destination. It was a beautiful summer day, perfect for a relaxing afternoon by the river. The south side of the territory was lush and vibrant, with tall grasses swaying gently in the breeze and the clear river water sparkling under the sun. I carried a blanket and a large wicker basket filled with a delicious assortment of foods: fresh fruit, sandwiches, cheese, and a bottle of sparkling cider. Ashlynn walked beside me, her hand resting on her swollen belly, a serene smile on her face. We were both excited and nervous about the imminent arrival of our pup, but today, we decided to savor the moment and enjoy each other’s company. Together we found the perfect spot under a large oak tree near the riverbank, where the shade provided a cool relief from the heat. Ashlynn spread out her favorite blanket, and we sat down, soaking in the tranquil surroundings. The gentle sound of the river flowing, combined with the chirping of birds, created a soothing symphony. As we ate, we talked and laughed, reminiscing about our journey together and dreaming about our future as a family. Ashlynn’s laughter was infectious, her eyes sparkling with joy. She looked radiant, her pregnancy giving her an ethereal glow that I couldn’t help but admire. After our meal, we laid back on the blanket, watching the clouds drift lazily across the sky. I gently stroked Ashlynn’s hair, feeling a deep sense of contentment and love. We stayed like that for hours, enjoying the peace and beauty of the moment. As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, we packed up our things and headed back home. The day had been perfect, a treasured memory we would hold onto forever. That night, as we settled into bed, Ashlynn began to feel the first signs of labor. The peaceful day had given way to an intense and urgent reality. I was by her side in an instant, holding her hand and trying to remain calm even though I too could feel the pain of her labor. "Jordyn, it's time," Ashlynn said, her voice filled with both excitement and apprehension. I nodded, my heart racing. We had been preparing for this moment, but nothing could truly prepare me for the wave of emotions that washed over me. We quickly gathered our things and headed to the pack's hospital, the night air cool and crisp against our skin. The journey to the hospital was a blur of hurried steps and reassuring words. The doctors and nurses were ready, guiding Ashlynn to a room as I stayed by her side, my hand never leaving hers. The laboring process was long and difficult. Hours passed, and the sun began to rise, casting a soft light through the window. Finally, the moment arrived. Ashlynn’s final push brought our pup into the world, a tiny girl with a fierce spirit and a soft cry. But as the minutes ticked by, something went wrong. Ashlynn’s face grew pale, her breathing labored. The doctors moved quickly, their faces grave. My heart pounded in my chest as I held onto my newborn daughter, my eyes flicking back and forth between Ashlynn and the doctors. I could feel the pain she was in, and it took all my strength to not show it. Nor allow her to feel the fear that had crept its way into my heart. As I sat and watched my mate I started to feel hollow inside. My eyes became clouded by a pool of my own tears. “Jordyn,” Ashlynn whispered weakly, her eyes filled with both love and fear. “Take care of her… promise me…” “No, Ashlynn stay with us, please! Ashley needs you. I need you please…” I pleaded, but the grip on my hand was weakening. The room filled with the sound of alarms and frantic activity, but my world slowed to a standstill as I watched the life fade from Ashlynn’s eyes. my mate, my love, my world, was gone, taken from me in the blink of an eye. I was currently holding the only reason for me to be strong in my arms. With tears streaming down my face, feeling both the pain of losing my mate and the fragile hope of new life in my arms, I was at a loss. Suddenly, my pup’s breath started to get shallow. I was crippled with so much fear I was frozen. Unable to form words when my pup was snatched out of my arms by the doctor. They immediately began to work on her. All too soon my world fell from the sky. Not only did I watch my mate take her last breath, but I also watched my innocent pup take her last breath too. The room now filled with a deadly silence. The sun rose higher, bathing the room in a warm glow, a cruel contrast to the cold emptiness I felt inside. When the thought of losing everything finally sank in, I lost it. I began to go on a rampage. I destroyed everything insight the pain of losing my mate and pup was killing me. I could hear yelling and screams but I was not able to decipher words. Then there were warriors surrounding me along with the Alpha. He had commanded me to stop. All I could do was weep. The last thing I remember of that terrible morning was feeling the prick of a needle and hearing the alphas words “I am soo sorry Jordyn.”
