I listened with anticipation. “A girl.”
“I am sure the two of you are so excited.”
I watched as Miah smiled back at the older woman.
Music began to play, letting the room know it was an opportunity to mingle with other people in the industry. I had no intention of walking away from Miah.
“Chris, I want to go mingle.” Claudia cried.
“Then go.” I said shortly, getting a glance for the first time from Miah. Our eyes found each other and I smiled at her. She quickly broke eye contact and looked up at Wyatt Harlow.
“I’m going to run to the bathroom. I will be right back.” She gave him a quick kiss before standing and walking away from the table.
“Come on Chris! This is so boring.” Claudia said again. Using this to my benefit, I stood up and walked with her away from the table.
“I am grabbing a drink.” I said, walking away from Claudia and making my way to the bathroom.
I found myself standing outside the ladies' room waiting for Miah to step out. My mouth was dry and my palms were sweaty.
She stepped out and froze the moment she saw me.
“Hi.” I blurted out feeling crazy nervous.
“Hi.” She said, giving me a small smile. How I missed her. I missed everything about her.
“Is umm is the baby mine.” I couldn't help blurting out.
“Yeah. I tried to tell you.” She said, looking down.
“What do you mean?”
“I called and messaged you. I called your office and I even called your parents. In fact, your Mother told me you moved on with Claudia and to leave you alone.”
I felt sick to my stomach. I couldn’t understand why I didn’t get her calls and messages but I knew Claudia had a hand in my office and my own mother was trying to keep us apart.
“I am so sorry Miah.”
“It’s OK Chris.” She stepped around me. “But I really need to get back, too Wyatt.”
She stepped around me and walked away. I wanted to stop her but my emotions were all over the place and I needed to get things figured out before I went hard on getting Miah back.
She was having my baby. This was a sign that we were meant to be together. Wyatt didn’t have the same kind of bond we were going to share and I needed to help Miah see that bond. She belonged with me and I was ready to fight for her.
Miah’s POV
Seeing Chris for the first time since our divorce was a surprise and much harder than I thought. Finding him sitting at our table with Claudia causes pain in my heart. But if he was happier with him, I was happy for him.
Finding him waiting for me when I came out of the bathroom gave me butterflies in my belly. But not in the love way, but it was almost as if I was in trouble.
He seemed surprised when I told him I had tried to contact him about the baby. However, above all, he seemed happy that I was pregnant. That couldn’t be right. I’m sure it was just the shock of finding out he was going to be a father.
I knew I should have stayed and talked to him but I wasn’t ready and I went to make my way back to Wyatt.
“Wait.” He said, grabbing my arm.
“Please don’t. You should probably get back to Claudia before she gets jealous.” Sounding more bitter than I wanted.
“I’m not really here with her. I used her for the invite to see you.”
At that moment, the anger I had been waiting to unleash was gone. Really, taking a look at Chris made me realize he was affected by our divorce and at that moment I felt bad for him.
At that moment, all I could think about was getting back to Wyatt. Seeing Wyatt made me realize I was in love with Wyatt. Like a love I had never felt before and I needed him.
“We will talk, but here is not the place.” I said, turning and walking away.
As soon as my eyes landed on Wyatt, I was greeted with a warm smile.
“Hey baby.” He said, giving me a kiss.
“Hey,” I whispered.
“You ok?”
My eyes scanned the room and found Chris. He was staring directly back at me. I turned and shook my head no.
“How about we get out of here?”
Again I nodded and he took my hand, taking me back to our room.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Wyatt asked the second we were back in the room.
“I’m just trying to process everything.”
“I’m sure it was overwhelming.”
I looked over at Wyatt as he removed his tie and jacket. He slowly began to unbutton his shirt.
“How about I get you a hot shower started?” He smiled as he stood in front of me in his undershirt and dress pants.
“You don’t have to do that for me.”
“I want to take care of you.” He said before disappearing into the bathroom.
I followed him into the bathroom and watched him get the shower ready.
“Do you need help with this dress or …?”
