Miah’s POV
Elijah left on Monday for his vacation and I had been on my own all week. The truth was I was doing great, but today was my meeting with Wyatt Harlow. I was nervous. I didn’t want to disappoint Elijah and I wanted to make him proud.
After my father passed, Elijah stepped in for not only the business but for me as well. He didn’t have to mentor me, but he did and, because of him, I was stronger. But I felt uneasy and my nerves were making me feel sick. I pushed that feeling down and focused on the task at hand.
"Ms. Cameron?” My secretary Darla said into the intercom.
“Yes.”
“Your 3 o’clock is here.”
“Show him in.”
Moments later, my door opened and in walked my secretary, followed by Mr. Wyatt Harlow.
He was tall, at least 6’4, and his pictures did not do him justice. He had dark blue eyes and dirty blond hair and was tan as if he had spent days in the sun. Staring at the Greek god standing in front of me, I felt my mouth go dry.
I quickly stood and made my way around the desk.
“Mr. Harlow.” I said, reaching my hand to shake his.
“Please call me Wyatt.” He replied in a deep, rough voice. Taking my hand and giving it a firm shake.
“Can I get you something to drink before we begin?”
“No thank you.” He said, smiling down at me.
I nodded at Darla and she took her leave.
Taking my seat across the desk from Wyatt, I couldn’t help but watch him intently. His suit looked like it had been made for his body. He slowly unbuttoned his suit jacket before taking a seat across from me.
The next hour was spent with him explaining in detail the arrangement and how our companies would work together. He was detailed and patient with all of my questions.
After finishing his presentation, he sat back and waited for me to respond. I allowed myself time to look over the file one last time. This agreement would work for both companies and I couldn’t see a reason not to take the offer.
But curiosity got the best of me and before I could agree, I needed to ask him a question first.
“To be honest, this offer looks amazing. But I must ask you a question.”
He smiled at me, still sitting back comfortably in his chair. He nodded at me, giving me the go ahead to ask him my questions.
“Why now?”
“That is a fair question. I was wondering if you would ask that.”
“I’m a curious woman.” I said, smiling back at him.
“So for years my company has refused to even meet with yours and not due to, business reasons but personal.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Our Great Grandfathers that started these companies didn’t only start companies at the same time but they fell in love with the same woman. Your Grandfather won her heart and mine became bitter.”
I’m sure my mouth was open. I had no idea.
“My Great Grandfather raised my Grandfather in the same bitter household. My father had wanted to take the meetings for years, but my Grandfather forbade it. My Grandfather passed about 6 months ago and I decided it was time.”
“I had no idea.”
“That doesn’t surprise me. My Grandfather has no idea how to forgive. But my mother taught my father that you can’t hold on to anger. You have to forgive or it will eat you up inside. This was one of those perfect examples. Not making a merger between our companies didn’t hurt your family and they never lost sleep over my family.”
“I… I don’t know what to say.”
“Say yes to the deal.” He said, smiling.
“Yes.”
After a few more minutes of finalizing a few more details, we both stood and I walked around the desk shaking his hand one more time.
“I am looking forward to working with you.” I said, smiling at him.
“I am as well, Miah.”
Gosh, I loved the way he said my name.
He turned to walk out and I couldn’t help but watch him leave. He got to the door and stopped. Before I could ask if something was wrong, he turned around and walked back to me.
“Have dinner with me.”
My heart jumped in my throat. Did he just ask me out?
“Excuse me?”
“Will you have dinner with me?” He asked again. Walking back to stand in front of my desk.
I wanted to scream yes but there was another thing running through my head. What if he changed his mind about working with me. How professional would it be if I decided to go on a date with him? Not to mention I had only been divorced for 6 weeks. I didn’t need to start dating yet.
“Wyatt, as much as I would love to go on a date with you, I don’t think I should mix business and pleasure.”
“Is that the only reason?”
“Yes.”
“Fine. The offer is off the table.” He said as he reached over and took the folder. “So no, you have no reason not to go out with me.”
I had no idea what to say. “Wait…You can’t.”
He stood still and looked at me. “ OK…… You go on three dates with me and dinner tonight and the deal is back on the table.”
