Madison’s POV
I did not remember everything else that happened after that. But what I did remember was yelling at Klaus, telling him that I would not let him take my baby away from me. I could accept everything else, but not him taking the baby away after the divorce.
I would rather die.
The nurses wheeled me to the operating room, and before one of them placed an anaesthesia mask over my face, I held her hand, making her jolt.
“Do not let him take my baby away. Please.”
She shrugged my hand off and placed the mask over my face, making everything turn black slowly as I fell into a long, dreamless sleep. I wanted to ask why they didn't let me give birth naturally. Why did it have to be a surgery?
But I could not move or talk.
At first, silence and darkness were all that surrounded me. And then I started to hear the beeping sounds of machines surrounding me. And then, voices. Panicked and worried voices surrounded me and I started to panic too.
“We are losing her, we can’t save her. Her little heart can’t take it.” One of the voices said and my heart started to pound. “We are losing the patient too! Get me the defibrillator!"
What were they losing? It could not be my baby, right?
If I did not have my baby, what would be the use of me in this world? My best friend betrayed me with my husband who never appreciated me and wanted to get rid of me after the baby. This child was all I had and she was gone too?
“She is back.” A voice hovering over my head said even though I could barely feel anything. But then I struggled to open my eyes, meeting the gaze of a man who seemed to be the doctor.
His dark gaze stared at me like a lover looking down at his sanctuary and it confused me for a moment. But…
“My baby.” I forced myself to whisper and the way his face went blank made my heart sink. “Where is my baby?”
“Give her another dose of anaesthesia.” The doctor ordered, and before I could struggle or argue, my eyes drooped close once again, pushing me back to the darkness I had come out of.
Three years ago
“You do not love me? We were supposed to get married. You promised to marry me if I proved I loved you for ten years.” His soft, trembling voice almost had my heart breaking but that was the truth. I did not love him.
“Cedric…I… I value you as my friend. But you know I have always loved your brother.” I whispered, slowly pulling my hand out of his grip.
“No, you have always loved me! You were blinded by my brother and you know Klaus doesn't love you that way. He proposed to you because of what he would gain from you. You know this. Please do not say yes to him.” He took my hand once again and guilt filled my chest. “Think about me. I have chased you for years… I am so close to winning your heart—”
“But my heart belongs to Klaus now.” I muttered softly and he froze. “I know he does not love me that way but I will make him fall in love with me. He'll fall madly in love with me.”
“You are going to give up everything for him? Because you love him?”
“Will you not do the same for me?” I questioned softly and his face fell. I hated to use that example but that was the truth.
That was the last time I saw that timid boy who had always chased after me for years.
“And if you regret it?” His voice sounded defeated even as I walked away from him, the tulips he had gotten me lying on the ground.
“I will not.” I whispered to myself, convinced that I would definitely be able to make Klaus fall in love with me like Cedric did.
Cedric never gave up on me however, but I chose to give up on him instead. I blocked him everywhere and made sure we never crossed paths accidentally.
Present Day
Beeping sounds drew me out of my sleepy state, and I wanted to move, but I could not. Even my eyes felt like metal was sitting on them.
My body ached but felt numb at the same time but the only thing I noticed was the empty feeling in my stomach.
My baby.
I tried to open my eyes when I heard familiar voices that made me freeze. I kept them closed, forcing myself to remain perfectly still while pretending to be completely unconscious so I could hear what they were saying.
“What now? The baby is dead and she found out the truth. What will you do to her? She has been asleep for three days. What if she does not wake up?” Abbie's words made something in my heart shatter into a million pieces. Three days? I had been in a coma for three whole days, and the nightmare was real. My baby was gone. More tears fell down to the pillow, but I refused to move an inch.
“Who cares if she wakes up or not? Divorce her, obviously. The baby was the most important thing and now that she is gone, she can leave too. It has been three awful years with her.” Klaus replied, his voice completely cold and detached.
Hearing him speak about me like I was nothing but a broken piece of trash turned my profound grief into a sharp, freezing rage. They had betrayed me, taken my parents' inheritance, and let my baby die alone. Now he wanted to throw me away. I was an actress—an award-winning one. If I woke up screaming right now, Klaus would use his billions to silence me or lock me away. To survive, to get my child back, and to destroy them both, I had to act. I had to give the performance of my life.
“You really are an awful husband.” Abbie muttered with a soft chuckle. “She gave up the entertainment industry for you and this is how you repay her?”
“Well, you assisted me, did you not? I guess we are both awful? Couple goals, if you ask me.” He replied.
I let out a soft, calculated sob to get their attention, making the machines suddenly start to beep faster as my heart pounded harshly in my chest. I slowly opened my eyes, making them look unfocused, weak, and completely broken.
The soft sobs that escaped my lips got their attention and they both turned to me, Klaus’ eyes widened while Abbie stared at me with a smirk.
“Princess is awake.” She muttered and I struggled to stare at them, my vision blurry.
“How could you… do this to me…? After everything I… did for you…? I loved you with everything I had…” I whispered, letting all my real agony pour into the performance. Abbie scoffed while Klaus ran his hand through his hair, looking completely bored by my tears.
“I never asked you to love me. Besides, this is for the best.” He replied, pulling a sleek leather folder containing divorce papers from his jacket.
“What did I do wrong? Why could you not love me? Is it until I die for you that you will see how much I love you?” I asked, playing the part of the pathetic, desperate fool perfectly so they would never suspect the trap I was setting.
“Then why don't you go ahead and die huh?”
Those words sent a wave of genuine shock and disgust through my soul. He truly was an absolute monster. Before he could force the pen into my hand or make me sign a single thing, the heavy door of the VIP suite suddenly slid open.
My breath completely caught in my throat as a tall, powerful figure stepped inside, completely commanding the room with his presence. It was Cedric. He looked older, incredibly handsome, and carried himself with an aura of immense wealth that instantly made Klaus look small. My heart leaped into my throat as our eyes met. I knew right then that my savior had finally arrived to help me take everything back from Klaus.
