“You look like hell.” Nancy said the moment Paige sat at the table “Can I hope it’s because you were in heaven all night long?” “What?” “Well, I saw you and Mc Hottie make a private getaway yesterday night and it didn’t look like he was just dropping you off.” Nancy grinned sipping her Americano with a knowing smile but when Paige did not reply, she dropped her drink “Oh oh, what happened? Did he bail? Did you bail? Did he have a small d**k and you were disappointed? Come on tell me?” “It’s nothing.” Paige sighed. “If you tell me I promise to tell you what happened between Caius and me,” she teased. “There is a Caius and you?” Paige asked and smiled at the waiter politely as he served her drink. She raised a brow when he turned to Nancy and gave her extra napkins and she was sure he winked before he left. “Cute,” Nancy grinned examining the neat handwriting on the napkin. “He is not my type but who knows?” She pocketed the napkin. “What about Caius?” Paige asked. “We are keeping it casual. We have established that we hate each other’s guts but we have also established that hate makes for steamy s*x and we were both down for it so yeah.” “How can you do that?” “Do what? Have s*x?” “No. Keep it casual. Wouldn’t it bother you if he slept with someone else?” “Not in the least. Just as I can also sleep with other people. Think of it like an extended one-night stand.” She shrugged. Paige frowned into her cup as she took a sip and almost choked when Nany said, “Oh, look, it’s Mc Hottie.” “What?” She asked and grabbed Nancy’s hand when she started to wave. “Did you guys have a fight or something?” “Or something,” Paige whispered back and tried to look for Cade with her side eye. “Is he really close?” She asked when she did not see him. “Ahhh….” With a small cough, Nancy nodded upward making Paige close her eyes as she suppressed a groan. “We need to talk Doll,” Cade told her and she chastised herself when even the sound of his voice sent shocks down her spine. “Doll? How adorable.” Nancy cooed “I will excuse you. I am going to be right over there so please don’t engage in too much PDA.” Paige clutched her drink in her hand as if it held the answers to all of life’s questions. She heard him sit down but did not look up at him. She was not ready to face him, not after how she had embarrassed herself the day before. He was probably there to tell her that it was best they stayed in their own lanes. She found the thought depressing. “How are you feeling?” He asked and she shrugged. “You can just cut to the chase. There is no need for small talk.” She told him and stiffened when he reached across the table to take one of her hands in his. She relaxed a few seconds later when he just stroked it and she finally let herself look at him. He looked like he hadn’t slept properly. There were dark circles under his eyes and he was wearing a grimace. But the grimace was probably because he was talking to her. She tried to withdraw her hand but he held on. “I was not making small talk, Doll. I really want to know. How are you?” “I am great thank you. How are you?” She asked back and a small smile teased his lips. “Not great. I did not get much sleep.” She nodded in understanding. “I thought about yesterday and…” “Stop.” Her voice was no more than a whisper. “What?” “Please don’t.” She pulled her hand away from his, “I know you probably regret yesterday and that is fine but please don’t ruin it for me. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I want to treasure it. You probably don’t want us to ever talk about it again and are tying up loose ends but I don’t think I can hear you say anything that would ruin last night for me. So please, don’t.” Her eyes were pleading and she held eye contact all through but once she was done, she looked away. She did not know whether it was because she was embarrassed or because he was simply too beautiful to look at for long. “You think I regret last night?” His voice was low, deep, and scathing. “Don’t you?” “What I regret Doll, is that I basically coerced you. I thought you were experienced. An experienced person would have seen it and been able to reject me if they did not want me but you, you wouldn’t have known. I feel like I have taken advantage of you and that f*cking sucks when that was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.” “You did not coerce me, I wanted you back!” She replied then ran a hand through her hair. “And what if you did? It’s not like you were a good guy to begin with and I knew that.” She regretted it as soon as it left her mouth. She did not usually say things she regretted since she tried not to say anything at all most of the time but she had needed him to understand and had started to reveal one of her not-so-dark but definitely embarrassing darkest secrets. “I didn’t mean…I just meant…,” she closed her eyes and hoped he let it slide. “You are right. It’s not like I am a good guy so why does this bother me?” It was more a question to himself than to her. “I guess that is the end then?” It hurt a bit as she asked that. “Only if you want to be.” He answered and she took a few seconds trying to determine if he was serious. “Do you want it to be the end?” He asked. She did not. That would be a lousy end. She would give up without even trying. But was she willing to risk being with him? The ladies at work had told her to do what she would regret the least. “I want monogamy.” She stated firmly and he raised a brow. “Doll, I would not share you with anybody.” “Not from me. Well, from me but from you too.” “Done.” He straightened. “Anything else?” There were a lot of things but she did not want to come off too strong. “That’s it.” “Do you know Doll, that you are not the best liar?” Cade asked leaning in again. “I don’t want you to run.” He laughed, “I think you will find that by the end of this conversation, you will be more of a flight risk than me. Tell me what you want.” “I want you to stay.” She whispered toying with her drink because she could not look at him. “When we are done with…,” she gestured instead of saying the word, “…I want you to stay.” He considered that. He was not the type to cuddle. But if that was what it took, he was willing to try. “Fine. What else?” “Let’s not tell anyone about us.” “What?” He could not hide his surprise. “Why?” He asked, his voice calmer. “It’s just easier that way.” That way, when they parted ways, it would be easier. No one would ‘helpfully’ point out that he was with someone new. And being associated with Cade would attract more attention than she could handle. “You don’t want to be associated with me?” He sounded more amused than hurt or even angry. “Isn’t this better for you too? You can walk away easily when you’re done.” Her voice was laced with a little spite that had his brow raised. “You are not at all what I expect.” He whispered reaching out a hand to trace her face. He enjoyed the way her cheeks pinkened, the way her breathing changed and her mouth parted. When her lip disappeared between her teeth, his gaze was dragged there and he seriously contemplated dragging her unto his lap and kissing the daylight out of her right there. She broke the contact between them by pulling back before he could put his thought into action. “What about you?” She asked and he sat back in his chair and the way he was watching her made butterflies slow dance in her stomach. “What?” “I am thinking.” “About?” She urged “All the things I would like to do to you.” He replied his voice having dropped several octaves so it was rumbly. Her gasp was audible as she met his eyes. The desire in them made her press her thigh together and squirm. She did not know what came over her when she replied softly, shyly, “Like what?” His smile was rakish as he leaned in closer to her to whisper, “I want to tie you up on my bed post and f*ck you till you have trouble walking.” He smirked when he saw her drag her hands off the table so she could clench her thighs. What amused him most was that even though her cheeks were almost as red as a tomato, she waited for him to continue. His girl was kinky. His girl…? “Do you like being tied up, Doll?” He asked and she shook her head. “I don’t know.” “Would you like to find out?” He asked and she hesitated a few seconds before nodding. “Perfect.” He took her phone from beside her cup and keyed in his number. He started to dial it but stopped and looked at her. “You already know I am not a good person, Doll but I am going to give you a chance to stop. After this, I will not let you go until I am satisfied. Here,” he dropped the phone back on the table “I don’t have your number so I can’t persuade you. Think about it and call me. But remember that if you do, there is no going back. Are we clear, Doll?” She swallowed and nodded. “Good.” He looked down at his watch “Your lunch break is over. I hope you call.” He stood up and with a small wink, walked away before he gave in to the urge to plunder her lips. Damn, what she did to him, he scoffed at his own libido as he made an effort to hide his b***r. It was a cold shower for him then.
