(Callum) Clara eventually left my office. The conversation hadn’t lasted long. Neither of us seemed capable of holding a normal conversation anymore. Every sentence felt loaded. Every silence felt dangerous. By the time the door closed behind her, I found myself staring at the paperwork on my desk without actually reading any of it. My concentration was gone. Completely gone. The reports sitting in front of me might as well have been written in another language. I leaned back in my chair and rubbed a hand across my face.
