After everything that happened, after months of fighting a battle I had already lost, expecting a peaceful night’s sleep was probably the most unrealistic thought I had entertained all week. The moment I got home, I poured myself a drink and sat alone in the darkness of my apartment, hoping silence would somehow quiet my thoughts. It didn’t. If anything, the silence made them louder.
