The visitor

Alessandro Rossi Alessandro froze the moment he opened the door. For a split second, he thought his mind was playing tricks on him. Because the person standing in the hallway was someone he had hoped, almost prayed he wouldn’t cross paths with again. Cindy Laurent. She leaned casually against the hallway wall as if she belonged there, her blonde hair cascading over one shoulder in effortless waves. The soft lighting of the corridor framed her face, highlighting those icy blue eyes that always seemed to be calculating something behind the surface. She looked exactly the same as she had years ago. Beautiful. Dangerous And Trouble. “Well,” Cindy said, tilting her head slightly with a slow smile, “aren’t you going to invite me in, Alessandro?” For a moment he simply stared at her. Of all the people who could have appeared tonight, she was the worst possible one. His mind raced instantly. What was she doing here? Did Hudson send her? Or is this just another one of her games? Alessandro’s body shifted slightly, blocking the doorway instinctively. “What are you doing here, Cindy?” His voice was calm, but the tension in his chest tightened like a coil ready to snap. She sighed dramatically. “Still so cold,” she murmured. “I was hoping you’d at least pretend to be happy to see an old… friend.” “Don’t push it.” The smile on her lips widened faintly. “Oh, Alessandro,” she said softly, stepping a little closer, “I’m not here to flirt.” He didn’t believe that for a second. Cindy Laurent had never done anything without a purpose. “Then talk,” he said. “Why are you here?” Her gaze drifted past his shoulder toward the inside of the penthouse. And Alessandro felt a jolt of alarm run through him. He knew what was on her mind and he wasn’t ready to let her in, Valerie would be here soon and he didn’t want her to misunderstand, tho he knew there was nothing going on between them, but if he doesn’t let Cindy inside she won’t leave here and he does not want Valerie meeting Cindy here. “Can we do this inside?” Cindy asked sweetly. “The hallway isn’t exactly private.” Alessandro hesitated. Inside the penthouse, there was no way he would let her inside his penthouse, the same girl that hurt Valerie. Besides him and Valerie agreed to meet at his penthouse , and she would be here soon, if the two met. The tension between them would explode instantly. But refusing Cindy entry might create an even bigger scene. After a moment, Alessandro stepped aside reluctantly. “Five minutes,” he said coldly. “Then you leave.” Cindy walked past him with the confidence of someone who had always known exactly how to control a room. Her heels clicked softly against the marble floor as she looked around the penthouse with mild interest. “Impressive,” she murmured. “Looks like the quiet boy from college did very well for himself.” Alessandro closed the door behind her. “Oh please, Alessandro. Don’t act like you’re surprised to see me.” “I’m not surprised,” he replied flatly. “I’m irritated.” She rolled her eyes and picked up the glass of whiskey sitting on the counter, swirling the amber liquid slowly before taking a sip. “You’re still the same,” she said. “Always so serious.” “And you’re still the same,” he replied. “Always causing trouble.” Cindy smirked. “That’s funny coming from someone who’s been watching everything quietly from the sidelines.” Alessandro’s eyes darkened. “Say what you came to say and leave.” She set the glass down with a soft clink. “Fine.” Her tone shifted, losing its teasing edge. “You know Hudson’s plan is moving faster now.” Alessandro’s jaw tightened slightly. “What plan?” ”You have no idea”. tilting her head. “Because from what I can see, if you were aware you would have done something to stop it.” “You’ve known for years that he’s been cheating on Valerie.“ Her eyes narrowed. “You just stood there and watched.” A muscle in Alessandro’s jaw twitched. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.” “Really?” she challenged. “Then tell me why you never told her.” The question hung in the air between them. For a moment, Alessandro didn’t answer. Then he exhaled slowly. “Because it would have destroyed her.” Cindy studied him carefully. “You’re in love with her.” It wasn’t a question, and Alessandro didn’t deny it. His silence was answer enough. Cindy sighed, shaking her head. “You always were too noble for your own good.” “That’s rich coming from you,” he said coldly. Her lips curled into a faint smile. “You think I’m the villain here.” “Aren’t you?” he replied. She laughed again, but there was something bitter in it now. “You know what’s funny? Hudson thinks he’s the smartest man in the room.” “And he’s wrong.” ”Oh, completely wrong,” She agreed. Her expression hardened slightly. “Because he forgot one important thing.” Alessandro’s gaze sharpened. “Stop pretending we’re here for small talk.” She turned toward him slowly. And she decided to ask him what has been on her mind. She crossed her arms, studying him carefully. “You’ve been spending time with Valerie again.” It wasn’t a question. It was a statement. Alessandro’s heart thudded once in his chest. “How do you know that?” Cindy laughed softly. “Oh, Alessandro… you really think you’re the only one watching things unfold?” Her gaze moved toward the large windows overlooking the city. “Hudson may be arrogant, he may act stupid but he isn’t stupid, he’s manipulative. The moment Valerie started digging into his life, he noticed.” A cold feeling crept into Alessandro’s stomach. “So?” “So,” Cindy continued, turning back toward him, “Hudson has been investigating her movements.” Alessandro’s jaw tightened. “And?” “And you showed up in those movements.” The room fell silent for a moment. Then Alessandro spoke slowly. “Let me guess. Hudson sent you here to warn me?” Cindy smiled again. But this smile was different. Almost pitying. “No.” The single word hung heavily in the air. “I came here because Hudson is planning something,” she said quietly. “And if Valerie keeps pushing him… things will get ugly.” Alessandro stepped closer, his voice low and dangerous. “What kind of ugly?” Cindy held his gaze. “The kind where powerful families start destroying people quietly.” His chest tightened. “Speak clearly.” Cindy sighed again, as if annoyed he wasn’t immediately understanding her point. “You’re smart, Alessandro. You built a company from nothing. You understand how the elite protect their interests.” “Yes.” “Then you understand that if Hudson feels threatened, his family won’t hesitate to ruin Valerie.” The words made something dark flicker in Alessandro’s eyes. It seems Hudson has forgotten who Valerie was, or who her family was, they were more powerful than his family, so what gave him the guts to think he could ever destroy Valerie, seems he’s still as foolish as ever. “They’ve been trying to ruin her for years.” “Not like this.” Cindy’s voice dropped slightly. “This time it wouldn’t be rumors or insults.” She paused. “It would be war.” Alessandro stared at her, searching her face for signs of deception. Cindy had always been manipulative. Always calculating. But something about her expression tonight seemed… different. Serious. But he didn’t trust her. “Why are you telling me this?” he asked. Cindy hesitated. For the first time since arriving, uncertainty flickered across her face. Then she spoke quietly. “Because I never meant for things to go this far.” Alessandro laughed once, harsh and disbelieving. “You’re joking.” “No.” Her eyes hardened slightly. “You think I planned this entire disaster?” “Didn’t you?” She shook her head. “I wanted Hudson’s attention back in college. That’s it. I flirted. I played games. But when he actually came to me after his marriage…” Her voice trailed off briefly. “I didn’t think about the consequences.” Alessandro studied her carefully. “And the children?” Something complicated passed across her face. “They exist,” she said simply. The confirmation hit him harder than expected. He already knew about them from Valerie’s investigator reports. But hearing Cindy acknowledge it so plainly made the betrayal feel even heavier. “Does Hudson love them?” Alessandro asked quietly. Cindy’s lips pressed together. “Yes.” That answer complicated everything. Because a man who loved his children could be far more dangerous than one who didn’t. Alessandro rubbed a hand over his jaw, thinking quickly. “You said Hudson is planning something,” he said. “What exactly?” Cindy hesitated again. “I don’t know the details.” “That’s not good enough.” “But I know this,” she continued quickly. “His family is involved.” Alessandro felt the temperature in the room drop several degrees. Hudson’s family. The Blakes were powerful. If they decided Valerie was a threat… They could destroy companies, reputations, entire lives. “Why come to me?” he asked. “Because you’re the only one who can stop this from getting worse.” He stared at her incredulously. “You expect me to tell Valerie to back down?” “Yes.” “No.” The word left his mouth instantly. Cindy groaned in frustration. “Alessandro, be realistic!” “I am.” He stepped closer, his eyes burning with intensity. “You think I’m going to convince Valerie to forgive Hudson after everything he’s done?” “That’s not what I’m saying!” “Then what are you saying?” “I’m saying revenge against the Blake family is suicide.” The silence that followed was heavy. Then Alessandro spoke quietly. “You’re underestimating her.” Cindy frowned. “No,” she said slowly. “I think you’re underestimating them.” The two of them stared at each other across the room. Two people who had once shared a brief, meaningless relationship. Now standing on opposite sides of a war neither of them fully understood yet. Finally Alessandro spoke again. “Why do I feel like you’re leaving something out?” Cindy’s eyes flickered. Just for a second. But Alessandro noticed. “What aren’t you telling me?” She looked away toward the windows again. “Nothing.” “Cindy.” Her shoulders tensed slightly. “Fine,” she muttered. “There is… one more thing.” Alessandro waited. And what she said next made his blood run cold. “Hudson knows Valerie had been suspecting him for a while.” The room fell silent again. Alessandro’s heart began beating faster. Because that meant something terrifying. Hudson knew Valerie was coming for him. And if Hudson knew that… Then it was only a matter of time before he struck first. Alessandro’s mind raced. Valerie needed to know immediately. But before he could respond— At that exact moment, the front door opened behind them. A voice echoed softly from the hallway behind them. Cold. Controlled And Dangerous. “So,” Valerie said calmly as she stepped into the living room, “my cheating husband’s mistress came here to warn you.” Cindy’s face went pale. And Alessandro realized with a sinking feeling. The real confrontation was about to begin. *** The drive to Alessandro’s apartment felt longer than it actually was. The city lights blurred past my window like streaks of gold and white, but I barely saw any of it. My mind was still spinning from everything that had happened at the restaurant. Hudson’s lies. His children. Five years of betrayal wrapped in apologies that suddenly meant nothing. My fingers tightened around the steering wheel. The pain was still there, sharp and heavy in my chest, but beneath it something else had begun to grow. Anger. Cold, steady anger. The kind that didn’t scream or cry. The kind that waited. Alessandro’s building rose ahead of me, tall, modern, glass reflecting the night skyline like a mirror. It was one of the most expensive luxury residences in the city, and it suited him perfectly. Powerful, quiet and Unreachable. My driver parked and I stepped out of the car, my heels clicking against the pavement as I walked inside. The lobby smelled faintly of polished marble and expensive perfume. The night guard nodded politely when he recognized me. “Good evening, Ms. Blake.” I gave him a brief nod and headed straight for the elevator. As the doors slid shut, my reflection stared back at me in the mirrored walls. My hair was still perfectly in place. My makeup flawless. No one looking at me would think my entire marriage had just collapsed in the span of a single evening. The elevator dinged softly when it reached Alessandro’s floor. His penthouse door was slightly open. I frowned. Alessandro was many things, but careless wasn’t one of them. Then I heard voices. Raised voices. A woman’s voice. My steps slowed. “…you think I’m stupid, Alessandro?” the woman snapped. My heart skipped. I knew that voice. Cindy. I pushed the door open. The scene inside froze the moment I stepped in.
