Wren's POV
I stayed awake the whole night. The slam of that study door repeated in my mind until gray morning light crept through my curtains. When I walked downstairs the house already moved like every normal day. Vivian yelled about guest sheets. Edwin left early to meet Grier at the border. Celeste stayed inside her room. The silence from her side felt fine this time.
Around the middle of the day I found Kade near the training grounds. He checked the wards on the fence with two young wolves behind him. The second he saw me he sent them away to look at the southern gate instead.
"You look like sleep never found you," he said once we stood alone.
"I heard you and my father last night."
Something moved on his face and disappeared before I could name it. "How much did you catch?"
