Michael got off the plane from Kyiv at Pulkovo Airport and immediately discovered that, as an American traveling from Ukraine, he was met with suspicion by the customs agent who wanted to know why he was making such a trip, and why he was returning to St. Petersburg for the second time in just a few months.
He explained that he was an archeologist working in Transcarpathia and now was taking a brief vacation, that he had enjoyed the sights and people on his last visit, and was looking forward to spending more time there. He, of course, said nothing about Jianjun. The slightest bit of intrigue or crime and he could end up in police headquarters for hours, if not days.
