MY SISTER'S HUSBAND #4

1274 Words
It's been exactly a year and six months since I last saw my sister and had that encounter with her husband. I deeply regret my actions to this day, that's why I've dodged her requests for me to come visit, but now there's no escape for me. She insisted I come for her child's one-year birthday, threatening to never speak to me again and block me out of her life if I dared to miss it, even Mom persisted that I book the flight. If only they knew that I was desperately trying to avoid my brother-in-law. And yes, you may be asking: How is her child a year old already? I was as shocked as you when I found out she was already pregnant during the wedding ceremony. “Are you okay, babe?” Lucas asked, his fingers gently brushing my thigh as the city lights flashed past our taxi window. We had been dating for a year now, and he was the sweetest man I'd ever known, the kind of guy I could genuinely see myself marrying. He had willingly hopped on the flight just to be my support system, but right now, even his presence could barely keep my anxiety from boiling over. “Hmmm…..” I murmured, blinking out of my thoughts and looking away from the passing streets. “Yeah. Yes, I'm okay. Just a bit nervous.” “Don't worry, she's your sister. I'm sure she'll be happy to see you.” “You think?” “I know. From everything you've told me about her, she adores you,” he replied, leaning across the backseat to plant a soft peck on my lips. We got to our destination, the house looking like a modern-day castle. I rang the doorbell with shaky fingers as the door burst open before I could say anything someone ran straight into me. “Sienna! Ohhh myyy gosssshhhhhhhh!” she squealed excitedly as she saw me, before pulling me into a suffocating hug. “Took you long enough. I'm supposed to stay mad at you, but how could I?” She asked, pulling me into another tight embrace. I just stood there with a forced smile, my chest tight. She pulled back and her eyes suddenly drifted behind me, lighting up even more. "And who do we have here?" "This is Lucas, my boyfriend," I managed to choke out, introducing him. "Oh, it is so wonderful to finally meet you!" my sister gushed, immediately letting me go to throw her arms around Lucas in a warm, welcoming hug. With my sister's back turned to me as she hugged my boyfriend, the front door opened wider. And Aaron stood there. He was holding the one-year-old baby in one arm, looking utterly breathtaking, his dark eyes locked onto mine instantly, a smirk playing on his lips. Before I could even step back, he stepped forward, wrapping his free arm securely around my waist to pull me into a tight 'welcome' hug. My heart stopped instantly. While my sister was busy laughing and hugging Lucas, Aaron leaned in close, his grip on my waist tightening as he whispered against my ear, "Welcome home, Sienna. I've missed you.” I pulled away instantly, my heart hammering against my ribs. My hands flew to my sides, my breathing shallow as I stepped back trying to put space between us. His smirk only widened, his dark eyes gleaming with amusement as he adjusted the baby in his arm. "Oh, look at you two already catching up!" my sister chimed, finally releasing Lucas and turning back to us with a beaming smile. She walked over and wrapped her arm around Aaron's waist. "Sienna, have you met my little angel?” "I have and he's... beautiful," I lied, my voice tight as I looked at the innocent baby, refusing to meet my brother-in-law's eyes. "Let's get you guys inside and out of the travel clothes," Aaron said. He extended a hand toward Lucas. "I'm Aaron, by the way. Great to finally meet the man Sienna keeps hidden away in another country." "Great to meet you too," Lucas smiled warmly, shaking his hand. "Come on, let's go!" my sister ushered us through the grand entryway. As Lucas walked ahead with my sister, chatting easily, I stepped over the threshold. I felt a heavy hand brush against the small of my back that made me stiffen. "After you," he murmured under his breath, watching me walk past him into his house. My sister led the way up the grand winding staircase, her voice echoing as she chatted about the birthday party decorations. Lucas walked right beside her, holding our heavy suitcases, completely captivated by the mansion's luxury. I trailed a few steps behind them, acutely aware of the heavy footsteps following directly behind me. Every time I glanced back, he was watching me climb the stairs, his dark eyes locked onto my hips. It felt like a physical weight pressing against my skin. "Here we are!" my sister announced, throwing open the doors to a massive, sunlit guest bedroom. "You two have your own private balcony and everything. Get unpacked, freshen up, and come downstairs for dinner. Aaron is making his famous steak tonight." "Sounds incredible. Thanks for having us," Lucas smiled, setting the bags down and wrapping an arm around my shoulder. Aaron stepped into the doorway, his tall frame blocking out the light from the hallway. "Make yourselves at home," he murmured. The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur while dinner was an absolute psychological torture. While my sister laughed and Lucas conversed with Aaron about sports and business, I barely touched my food. By the time night finally fell and the house went completely dark, I thought the danger had passed. Lucas was already fast asleep beside me, his steady breathing filling the quiet guest room. I rolled over, staring at Lucas's sleeping form, my heart still racing from the day's tension. “What's wrong?” Lucas asked, his eyes heavy with exhaustion as he pried it open, but I could tell he was incredibly sleepy. After today's long, grueling flight, he deserved the rest, and it warmed my heart that he still cared about me even while half-asleep. “I can't fall asleep,” I replied softly. “Want me to fetch you a cup of water?” he mumbled, already trying to push himself up against the pillows. “No, you don't have to. I'll go get it myself.” “You sure nothing's bothering you?” he asked, his voice laced with concern. “No, nothing's wrong.” Lucas smiled groggily, reaching out to cup my cheek. He leaned in, planting a soft, lingering kiss on my lips. "Don't be long," he whispered, before rolling back over and instantly drifting back into sleep. I slipped out from under the warm covers, the cold air of the mansion hitting my bare legs through my nightgown. I quietly opened the bedroom door and crept down the pitch-black hallway, the floorboards cold beneath my feet. The house was dead silent as I padded into the massive kitchen. The only light came from the moonlight filtering through the high windows. I grabbed a glass from the cupboard and turned on the tap. I took a long sip, letting the cold water soothe my dry throat. But as I set the glass down on the marble island, a shadow blocked out the moonlight. "Couldn't sleep either?" I let out a soft gasp, Aaron was leaning against the refrigerator, completely shirtless in the dark, his sculpted chest gleaming in the shadows.
