Chapter 2

His deep, manly purr roused my wolf with a "Hello." "I take it you are Scarlet?" I braced myself and tensed up, then glanced up at him. Josh's amazing beauty still strikes me as a powerful blow. He seemed even more stunning than I had remembered. He had broad shoulders, a hard-muscled torso, and a height of approximately six feet two inches. His dark hair and tanned skin contrasted well with his emerald eyes. I tried my hardest to talk to Josh, but he left me speechless. Are you going to make a statement? I realised I had not spoken in minutes, and my cheeks went pink. "Hello," I tremblingly swallowed. "I am red, yes." With a stern expression, he commanded, "Follow me," and briskly made his way to the rear of the cafeteria. My feet moved more quickly than my mind as I followed him. I silently trailed following him, a thousand ideas racing through my head. Josh was aware that he was my friend. Would he, however, claim me as his own? Would he stop things with Sandra, his girlfriend, in order to get me? He stopped beside a little tree behind the cafeteria, and I followed him. As I waited for him to say something, to decide whether or not he wanted me, my heart was pounding fiercely. "Oh my, this is really awkward." With his fingers tumbling through his hair, he muttered. I heard him, and my heart fell. I was unsure if he felt ashamed of being my partner or even exchanging words with me. "I take it you are an Omega?" When he did inquire, his eyes were icy and remote. "Yes." He said, "You should plainly know who I am," and I gave him a nod. "All right. You ought to be aware that I have a lot of obligations to fulfil given that you already know that. I need a powerful Luna because I am going to be our pack's next Alpha." I felt queasy, already knowing where our conversation was going. I was not ready psychologically for rejection, and I was not ready for it either. I let a tear fall from my eyes and onto my feet. With a sigh, Josh drew me in. "Look, there is no denying your beauty. We have a strong connection, and you would make a fantastic partner. However." However? I was waiting for those words to break my heart. However, I already have a Luna that I adore. My father thinks Sandra would make a fantastic Luna, and I am completely in love with her." My soul broke to the core as my wolf let out a cry of sorrow. Tears burned hot in my eyes and clouded my vision. "What does that signify? Are you alright?" It implies that I am unable to recognise or claim you as my partner. He turned his back on me. It implies that you need to move on from me and find someone else to adore you. Scarlet, I have made my decision, and it is not you. I apologise. I stumbled away from him and started crying, my lips trembling. I was embarrassed to show him how devastated I was, so I buried my face in his chest as he pulled me into his arms. I sobbed for several minutes, releasing all of my pain. Rejection surprised me by how much it stung; it was like having a knife stuck in my chest. The grief my wolf felt as she wept with me was unbearable. It was an agony that tore at my heart, destroying my spirit. "Listen, I have to get to class. I apologise for disappointing you, but we can discuss this at a later time. Caressing my hair and supporting my quivering body, he muttered. I pulled away from him, gathering myself enough to stop crying. "Brent, please do not turn me down." I hugged him and pleaded. "I will act like a rogue wolf if you reject me. Are you not at least interested in me? Do you truly want to send me away from the group forever?" Our pack accepted a lot of things, but a renegade wolf was not one of them. A similar rejection to mine, particularly from the Alpha's son, would result in my expulsion from the pack. That was all that a rejected wolf had to endure. If Josh fully expressed his rejection, that would be my fate. Josh was quiet for a little, deciding whether or not I was worth it. I was aware that, in comparison to Sandra, his girlfriend, who was flawless in every aspect, I was nothing. And the pain was excruciating. I just wanted to get out of this near-accident. A strategy to stay out of the hurtful the fact that I was turned down. Scarlet, you have to seal our rejection. Are you unaware of what would happen if you did not do that? I could feel the electricity rippling over my skin as he touched my arm. "No, but..." "You are there!" With a sardonic look on her lips, Sandra was sashaying towards us when I turned around. I instantly moved away from Josh, taking a step back. She embraced him with her arms when she arrived at him. "I have been searching everywhere for you. What is happening?" "It is not that significant." Josh answered, averting my eyes. Nothing significant? Really? When I heard those words, a part of me wanted to shout, but I kept quiet. "So, why is she in this place?" Sandra gave me a contemptuous stare. "I had no idea that you were suddenly hanging out with freaks." She was the definition of perfection, unlike me. Her flawlessly sculpted hips and nose, along with her glossy blonde hair, made her the most gorgeous she-wolf in the pack. Her father was also the pack's beta, which won her admiration and a lot of respect. In comparison to her, I was nothing at all. "My dear, it is not a huge deal." With a kiss on her lips, Josh made my guts clench up. Observing him plant a kiss on the girl he turned down for was sickening. "Leave and head to class." "I will follow closely behind you." Saying that, Sandra waited for him to vanish down the hallway. Three of her buddies, Tricia, Zoey, and Mia, approached me from behind at her signal. They treated her like a goddess, so when I saw them gathering me up, I realised something was wrong.
