The brothers sat in Joshua's barn, between them a dim lantern and a bottle of booze. Joshua's eyes were wide with panic as he'd just been busted out of jail. At the back of the barn, away from the pair, slept Brody. Joseph appeared as if he were reading a book of poetry, calm and collected with not a thing in the world to worry about other than shining the spurs on his boots. “I–I don't know what I'm gonna do," Joshua said. “Tonight, the Sheriff and his guy, they saw me and Brody. They booked us in and logged it." He snatched up the booze and drank from it. “That other guy, the one you choked out, never came in and saw us but he knew two guys were there tonight.
