Ava
After getting home, I tried not to dwell on the strange encounter earlier and dismissed it from my mind. A week later, while I was working at the fast-food restaurant, I received a call from the hospital.
"Is this Ava? Your mother's medical report is ready. If you have time, please come to the hospital to pick it up," the voice on the other end said.
I instinctively asked, "Doctor, how is my mother's health? Is everything okay?"
The doctor hesitated before replying, "Ava, I think it would be better if you came here yourself."
His evasive tone left me frozen in place, staring blankly ahead. After a few seconds, I hung up, fighting back tears, and rushed to my boss.
