He'll Never Love You

It's been three days since the dinner argument. Nathan was still hung up on the whole thing. He had intentionally stayed away from the office, switched of his phone and stayed indoors to avoid everyone.

His door bell rang thrice and he knew who it was. He stood up sluggishly and went to open it.

"Natty, wasup? " Troy asked

Troy was Nathan's best friend. They've been friends for over 10 years.

" I'm good " he replied.

" What's the problem? Your line is off. I had to check like 5 of your other house before finding you here. You okay? " Troy asked when they were seated.

" Nothing. I'm good. Just want to be alone"

"Okay? So what's the problem? " Troy asked again.

Nathan gave a faint laugh. Troy knew him too well.

" Well, I had an argument with T three days ago "

" T as in your secretary?

"yes! "

Nathan went on to narrate what happened to Troy.

‘‘she even said I was a punishment to whoever marries me. I'm not that bad. Am I?’’

‘'weeelllllll.....

‘‘shut up. Like I care what you think’’

Troy laughed hard.

" I think I know what the problem is"

"What do you mean? " Nath asked.

" Is she the first person to tell you all these? "

"No, I hear it almost all the time"

"So why are you getting worked up? "

" I don't know dude. "

" I think you like her" Troy said

"Like who? My secretary? You must be kidding me."

"You know I'm saying the truth. Else why would what she thinks matter to you? You've never cared what people think of you. Why do you feel down she thinks bad of you? "

" I don't care what you say Troy, you've always been crazy. I mean why would I leave classy and sophisticated ladies and like a low class girl who doesn't have anything? Think about it. Maybe I'm bored "

"Bored? Really?"

"Yes! I've not had fun in a long time. That's what I need, fun! "

" If you say so. What do you intend to do for FUN!? "

" That's why I have you. Help me think of something "

" I will but not right now. I need to go catch my own fun. If you know what I mean. " Troy said Winking.

" Of course. Ashawo "

" I learnt from the best. Na you be master "

They bade themselves goodbye and Troy left.

The conversation with Troy seem to make things clear to him. He had gotten to close to Tina and it made him vulnerable. It Now made it seem like her thoughts matter when it shouldn't.

" It's all because of her stupid rules" he said aloud.

When he first hired Tina, they had quarreled a lot. She was a stubborn one and always undermined his authority. She argued with him all the time. This made him fire her countless times but he called her back seeing that she did her job well. It was after he called her back the last time that she came up with some rules. Initially she said she doesn't want to come back to work again that she was sick and tired of the way he treated her. After much plea, she agreed to Come back but with conditions. That was how the rules came.

‘‘you must say please when asking me to do you a personal favor, you must say thank you as well. I will close like everyone else does, I have a life too. ’’

Following her conditions made him nice to her and made it appear like they were friends.

"She's not my friend. She's just a worker like everyone else" He said heading upstairs.

Tina tidied up her desk, she was done for the day. She went into Nathan 's office to check if he had come in using his secret door. He hadn't.

Today made it the third day he was absent from work. Hard as she tried, she couldn't stop worrying. Although this wasn't the first time he was making a disappearing act, it was the first time he was doing it without telling her.

She had thought of visiting him but she didn't know which of the houses he would be. She tried his line but it wasn't going through.

"I hope he's fine" she thought.

Just as she stepped out of the compound, she saw Troy drive by. She waved him down.

"Hello beautiful. How are you? " Troy asked going in for a hug.

" Come of it Troy. I just want to ask if you've seen Nath. I mean my boss"

Troy looked at her from head to toe. "I've seen him"

"Is he okay? I've been trying to reach him for some days but..

"He's fine! Just one of his mood. "

" Okay. Do you know if he'll come in on Monday? "

"He might. I don't know"

"Okay. Bye " She said and was walking away when Troy blocked her.

" Just bye? What about what I talked to you about? "

Troy had been hitting on her for a long time now but she kept turning him down.

" I've told you Troy. Not interested in being one of your women. "

" I'll drop them all for you babe "

" Men like you don't change. You have a wife Troy stay faithful to her. Aids is real ooh."

"Enough of the sermon. Wait! I get it. It's because of Nathan. Right? "

" Nath who? What has he got to do with this? " she asked confused.

" You like him and you're hoping one day he'd notice you. I'm I right? "

" For heaven's sake. It's nothing like that. Even he was the last man on earth, I'd never ever like him. Gosh! "

" Liar. I know you like him. Just know that he's way out of your league. You're not his type. He'll never like you. Just make do of what you can get. I'm open to you love. "

" Ugh! Just get out " she said and left
