--- I finally gathered the courage to tell him that I was pregnant. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding his phone, looking at a picture of me. I hesitated for a moment, my heart pounding. Then, I took a deep breath and softly said, “I’m pregnant.” For a second, he just stared at me, as if he wasn’t sure he had heard me right. His brows furrowed slightly before his eyes widened with realization. “Wait… what? You’re serious?” His voice was filled with shock, but excitement was already creeping in. I smiled and nodded. “Yes, love. We’re having another baby.” Before I could say anything else, he let out a joyful laugh, rushing toward me. He wrapped his arms around me so tightly that I could feel his heart beating against mine. Then, out of nowhere, he lifted me off the ground and spun me around, laughing like a child. “We’re going to have another baby!” he shouted happily, his voice echoing through the small house. “This is the best news ever!” I couldn’t help but giggle. Seeing him so happy filled me with warmth. He set me down gently and placed his hands on my belly, though there wasn’t much of a bump yet. “Hello in there, little one,” he whispered, grinning. “You have no idea how excited your daddy is to meet you.” I laughed, brushing a hand over his cheek. “You’re acting like this is our first.” “Every baby is special,” he said, looking into my eyes. “And every time, it feels like a miracle.” His words made my heart melt. He had always been a loving husband and father, and moments like these reminded me why I fell in love with him in the first place. Later that day, I decided to tell my mother-in-law the news. As soon as I said the words, her face lit up with pure joy. “Oh, my dear! Another grandchild! What a blessing from above!” she exclaimed, pulling me into a tight hug. “We’re so happy,” I told her. “Alvin was over the moon when he found out.” She smiled warmly. “I always knew he would be. He has always loved being a father.” The rest of the family was just as excited, welcoming the news with open arms. It warmed my heart to know that our child was already so loved. The Challenges of Pregnancy Despite the happiness, this pregnancy was not as easy as my first. I often felt tired, and my body didn’t have the same energy it used to. I found myself unable to work as much as before, and that frustrated me. I was used to being active—selling by the roadside, running errands, taking care of our home. But now, I had to take it slow. Meanwhile, my husband worked harder than ever. He never missed a day of fishing, no matter the weather. “You should rest,” I told him one evening as he came home, his clothes damp from the sea. “You’re working too hard.” He shook his head and gave me a reassuring smile. “I have to. I want to make sure you and the baby have everything you need.” “But you need to take care of yourself too.” He chuckled, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. “Don’t worry about me, love. I’m strong. My only focus is making sure you’re safe and happy.” That was the kind of man he was—always putting his family first. Even after long, exhausting hours at sea, he never forgot to pick me up from the market. “You don’t have to come for me every day,” I told him once. “I can manage.” He frowned. “No way. You’re not walking home alone while carrying our baby.” I smiled at his protectiveness. “You’re sweet, but you need rest.” He shook his head. “I don’t mind. I like walking with you.” A Simple but Meaningful Moment One evening, after coming home from fishing, he reached for my hand. “Come,” he said gently. “Let’s take a walk.” I raised an eyebrow. “A walk? You just spent hours fishing. Aren’t you tired?” He smiled. “Nothing is more important than you and our baby. A little walk will be good for you.” So we walked, hand in hand, through the quiet streets. The night breeze was cool against my skin, and the sound of the distant waves filled the silence. As we strolled, he placed a hand on my belly. “Have you thought of any names yet?” he asked. I chuckled. “It’s too early for that.” “I just want to be prepared,” he said with a grin. “What if it’s a boy?” “Then you can name him,” I teased. “And if it’s a girl?” I smiled. “Then I’ll name her.” He laughed. “Fair enough.” We walked in comfortable silence for a while before he spoke again. “You know, sometimes I worry.” I looked up at him, surprised. “About what?” He sighed. “About whether I’m doing enough. Whether I’m being the best husband and father I can be.” I stopped walking and turned to face him. “Alvin,” I said firmly, “you are the hardest-working, most loving man I know. You do more than enough. You are enough.” His eyes softened, and he pulled me into a hug. “Thank you. That means everything to me.” I held onto him tightly, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. “No matter how hard things get,” he whispered, “I’ll always be here for you. For our family.” And in that moment, I knew that no matter what struggles we faced, as long as we had each other, we would always find a way to move forward. ---
