"No, neither of them are talking about the bet" the girl behind me whispered. "Jessica is going to drag her" Another girl laughed "I'd like to see her try." I said loudly. "What was that Rylee?" Mr. Williams said quickly. "Oh just joining in on a gossip circle apparently" I smirked looking at the girls behind me. They stayed silent the rest of the class with occasional buzzing from their desks. I'm guessing it was them just texting and not talking afraid I might say something else. One more class and then I know I'll run into her at the end of the day as I make my way from my locker to the door. The bell rang as everyone ran out I stayed sitting per Mr. William's request. Once everyone had left he checked the hall and shut the door. "What's going on Rylee?" He asked sitting in front of me. "Nothing" I smiled. "You barely paid attention, you went to the library, your stomach looks bumpy, it's 100 degrees outside and you are wearing a long sleeve dress." He said. "very observant" I slow clapped. "Cut the shit." He scoffed. "Things bad at home again?" He asked quickly. "No, things are fine" I smirked. "Show me your wrists." He said quickly. "At least buy me dinner first" I chuckled. "Rylee!" He raised his voice. "Fine" I scoffed. "Why are there cuts?" He asked concerned. "Well. When someone sleeps with you for a bet it kind of gets to you" I smirked. "Who?" He asked. "Give it till your next class. You'll know" I smirked. "Are you eating?" He asks. "Yeah" I replied. "and your stomach?" He asked confused. "I fell during a panic attack while I was walking home." I replied. "So John is nice to you?" He asked. "I've been there since I was 11. Do you think I still would be if he wasn't" I scoffed. "Here." he said walking to his desk. "Eat a cracker and you can go" He smiled. "Sure" I smiled before shoving it in my mouth. "Chew" He scoffed. I finished chewing and stuck my tongue out as the bell rang. "I'll write you a note quick" He smiled while writing on a piece of paper. "Thanks" I scoffed as I took it. "Your welcome" he smiled as he walked me to the door. I watched as Jessica glared at me as she walked into class. I walked to my next class and put the note on her desk as I walked to my seat. "Thank you, Mrs. Banks." She quickly said everyone's heads turned towards me. "Oh f**k off" I mumbled. Pulling out my phone while she taught whatever lesson. Text: Luka 'It's loose' 'Can you get out of class?' 'Maybe' 'Try and let me know I raised my hand as she asked a question I already knew the answer to. "Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked as she called on me. "Answer this correctly and yeah" She smiled. "The capital of New York is Albany' I smiled as I stood up. "Go ahead" She smiled but rolled her eyes as I walked away. 'I'm out' 'Coming' I walked down the hall towards the bathroom as Luka walked towards me. "You go check and make sure no one is in there." he said lowly "They might just think we are hooking up" I laughed. "Very funny. Go" He said pushing me towards the bathroom. "fine" I scoffed walking in. Checking to see if anyone was in the stalls. "CLEAR" I raised my voice. "You are being too loud" Luka laughed. "Funny Lucas said the same thing" I laughed as I unzipped my dress so he could tightly rewrap. "Not funny" he scoffed as he pulled it tightly. "I thought it was" I laughed. "All done" He smiled zipping me back up. "Thanks" I smiled as I walked out of the bathroom. I headed back to class as someone else was coming out. "w***e" She scoffed. "Jealous" I laughed. I opened the door to the classroom and took my seat. So what if I was a bet? At least I didn't beg guys for attention not that it would be good attention. At least people in this class aren't f*****g with me. I pull my phone out of my pocket to check the time. Text: Melissa. 'Jessica made a hands-off warning on you' 'So she can try to kick my ass?' 'That's my guess' 'f*****g pathetic.' 'At least you'll have all of us behind you' 'No one is going to let me hit her or her hit me' 'Eh' 'I could stall them for a moment if you need' 'I just need her to hit me first' 'I'll figure It out. Meet by your locker?' 'Yeah' As the bell rang, I rushed to my locker, not because I feared Jessica because by no means was I afraid of her. I passed her locker as she glared at me before following me, Luka and Melissa beside me she watched from down the hall, I had struck a nerve with all of this for her to risk being this close to me. I pulled the stuff from my locker and slipped away as Melissa kept Luka busy for a minute, If Luka had walked with me, I wouldn't have gotten close enough to the corridor for Jessica to start with me. Honestly, I'm not sure if she would have tried to start something if I was with anyone else. "Rylee Banks!" She yelled down the hall and everything got quiet as I turned around slowly. "What's up Jess?" I smiled. "I told you, you wouldn't always have an army behind you" She scoffed as if she didn't just walk into the trap I set for her, truthfully, I wanted her to hit me. "Oh, I guess you're right, I'm all alone." I said lowly, looking like a lost dog. "You are the reason Lucas doesn't want to be with me" She sneered in my face as the crowd formed around us. "Well, actually I'm pretty sure it's because you're a b***h but" I chuckle. She swung, connecting with my face, as pain struck to the surface. One dreadful thing about me, I blackout if I'm hit in the face hard enough. I wipe my mouth as it fills with a metallic taste, a smile playing on my lips. I pulled my fist back, slamming it as hard as I could a couple of times into her face as she fought back, trying to hit me in any way that she could kicking me in the ribs. I stumbled back a little, as she lunged on top of me. I quickly rolled forcefully putting me on top as I hit her a few more times, she grabbed at my hair, my ribs, anything she could to try to hurt me as I ignored the pain. "Rylee!" Luka yelled pulling me off of her. "You're a f*****g b***h" She yelled. "Your just mad because I beat your ass" I laughed, spitting out the blood from my mouth. She lunged at me once more, getting a decent hit in on my face before Lucas pulled her off. "Control your b***h" I scoffed as Luka walked away. "Your just mad because I have something you never will" She yelled as Luka carried me outside. "f**k Rylee!" Luka yelled at me. "It's really not that bad" I laughed spitting out more blood. "Rylee, what the f**k?" Jake rushed out to me. "I'm fine" I laughed as I walked towards Melissa who was now holding my backpack. "Seriously, you could have been hurt" Jake interjected. "Your right" I replied as I spit more blood. "What?" he asked shocked. "I could have been seriously hurt, maybe I need a babysitter," I said sarcastically walking away as everyone walked out of school. "Rylee wait up!" Lucas called after me as I continued to walk away. "Rylee!" Lucas grabbed my arm. "What?" I turned around to face him. All-day he has ignored everything that has been said or done to me or about me and he hasn't cared. "What was that about?" he asked confused. "Go back to your girlfriend Lucas." I said annoyed and kept walking. "She's not my girlfriend" he defended. "Could've fooled me" I scoffed. "Rylee!" Max yelled as he ran up to us. "Are you okay?" he asked quickly. "I'm fine." I said spitting out more blood as I walked. "We were talking" Lucas started. "No, we weren't" I laughed. "Why did you get into a fight?" Max asked as the anger rose. "She hit me first!" I yelled quickly; I'm reaching my breaking point with these two. "So, you had to hit her back? Couldn't have just walked away?" Max scoffed. "Do you back down from a fight?" I laughed, not because it was funny just ironic. "Well, no, but I'm a guy," he said quickly. "Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she can't fight. Jessica is pretty bruised up already" Lucas added, I smirked at the thought of her face being messed up since she takes such pride in how she looks. "That's not what I mean. I'm just saying it's stupid" Max defended. "Hey I have an idea, how about you both just leave me alone?" I smiled sarcastically as I walked away. "Rylee." Max said quickly as they followed me. "You both can just go back to ignoring me" I smiled mockingly. "We aren't going to ignore you" Lucas added. "Something we actually agree on." Max said. "Just leave me alone" I sighed as I walked into my house. "Lucas!" Luka yelled as they followed me in. "What?" Lucas asked I could just barely hear their conversation as I walked into the bathroom. "Just let her go, she needs to cool off." Luka said as I closed the door. I quickly took off my dress and the wrap around my ribs. I heard muffled protests but ignored them as I cleaned the wound on my face from the fight. "Rylee." Luka said behind the door. "Come in." I said lowly. "You okay?" Luka asked looking directly at my face. "Yeah." I sighed. "So, do you want to talk about it?" He asked/ yelled walking over to my room. "I'm just done being walked all over." I yelled. "I understand that but you have to know fighting isn't always the answer." he yelled back. "She hit me; I was defending myself" I answered. "After the first few hits maybe, but then you just enjoyed it" Luka said handing me an oversized shirt. "I did enjoy it" I smirked slowly putting the shirt on. "I know you did" He answered as he looked at my ribs. "Did I really need to put a shirt on for you to look at my ribs?" I scoffed. "Yes." he answered. "I seriously think you should go to the doctors now." Luka said as there was a knock on the front door. "Grab me pants?" I asked quickly. "Yeah." he said running over to my room. I heard muffled talking and some laughing as I walked over to my bedroom, Luka helped me into my pants before we walked downstairs. "Luka I'm fine, stop asking" I rolled my eyes. "Rylee bug." Uncle Bruce said with a smile, which slowly faded as he saw the marks on my face. "What happened?" He asked as he tensed up. "It was just a fight at school." I smiled. "Are you okay?" he asked quickly looking me over. "I'm fine" I smiled once more as he intensely stared at me, clearing his throat before speaking. "Why don't I help you clean up? After all, I did help in the medical tents" he smiled. "Actually, that sounds great. I think she has a broken rib" Luka chimed in. "How did you get a broken rib in a school fight?" He asked confused. "That's actually from a panic attack I had" I answer, a conflicting look crossing his face before he nodded. "Alright, let's see it" Bruce sighed and I pulled up my shirt just below my bra. After a few minutes of him poking and prodding at my ribs, the pain started to return, I'm guessing the adrenaline I had was wearing off and I suddenly became very aware of my injuries. "You okay?" He asked as I winced at his touch. "Just hurts now" I answered as I pulled back. "The adrenaline is wearing off so everything is going to hurt more." he answered. "I don't think they are broken, however" he answered. "I can take you to an actual doctor." He said quickly. "I can't" I sighed putting my shirt down. "Why?" he asked. "Well, I have work right now, and if I go to the doctor, they will think I'm being abused which means being pulled out of the home" I replied. "Speaking of where are your foster parents?" he asked. "John works nightshift so he's either bed sleeping or at the hospital with his wife" I replied. "Why is she in the hospital?" he asked. "Who knows, probably kidney failure since she drinks all the time" I laughed. "Read the room, Rylee." Jake said lowly. "Anyways, I have to get ready for work." I smiled as I started to walk upstairs. "I need to wrap that." Luka says quickly. "Stay." I said sternly. "What?" He looked at me confused. "I will come down and you can fix it" I answered as I walked up the steps. I grabbed my uniform and threw it on as fast as I could manage before walking over to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and fixed my eye makeup that was now ruined from the fight then headed downstairs. "Here" I sighed as I handed the bandage to Luka. Lifting my shirt once more. "God damn it" I mumbled as Luka wrapped it tightly. "What time do you get off?" Uncle Bruce asked. "Seven" I answered. "Sorry" Luka whispered as he finished wrapping it. "It's okay" I whispered with a smile. "Okay, I'll be back around 7:30. Don't get yourself killed, okay?" He smirked as he walked to the door. "I don't think I'll have to worry about that" I smiled looking at Luka. "So, where's Lucas and Max?" I asked as I walked to the kitchen. "I sent Lucas's home" Luka answered following close behind. "And I made Max go check on his brother." Jason said as I sat at the table. "Thanks" I sighed in relief. "So, want to tell us what's going on there?" Luka asked. "I don't know, it's confusing. Max is sweet sometimes but a complete d**k other times and Lucas only wants something to do with me now, I mean he made a whole bet over me" I answered. "Eat" Noah demanded as he put food Infront of me. "I'm not that hungry right now" I smiled. "Eat," he said sternly pointing to the grilled cheese. I smiled and took a bite as I looked at my phone. "s**t I gotta go" I took a drink and walked to the front door. "Rylee!" Noah yelled after me. "Sorry, but I really need to leave if I'm going to make it to work on time!" I yelled from the front door. "I'll drive you" Luka smiled. So, I agreed and we left, the car was quiet but I didn't mind. It was a peaceful silence like there was nothing to be said or unsaid, Luka really is my best friend. Yeah, we aren't super close but I would never sleep with him or make a move as a chance of ruining our friendship. "I'll pick you up later" he smiled. "Okay" I replied as I got out. I walked inside with a smile, but it fell as soon as Collin looked at me.
