Chapter 7

As Micah followed Rick down the hallway the feeling was different from a half hour ago when she had walked through with Elliot. In fact it was the exact opposite. He seemed annoyed and brooding, as he stalked ahead of her. Meanwhile, she had to double step just to keep up with him, she sensed that if she didn't stay close behind he'd purposely ditch her. She didn't like this feeling at all. Maybe if she reasoned with him? "Hey, Rick, can you slow down a bit. You're walking too fast." "I don't know what you learned in that school of yours, but this is the real world, sweetheart, and this business is fast paced. If you can't keep up with me, you're for damn sure not going to be able to handle the rest," he said, not slowing his pace at all. Micah rolled her eyes. "It's not sweetheart, it's Micah, Ms. Rae to you," she said in an annoyed tone to him, as she picked up her pace. "What?" Rick abruptly stopped moving, causing her to collide into him and lose her balance. Rick swiftly turned and caught her before she could fall. "Oh my!" She found herself pressed against him tightly, her body wrapped in his arms, as she clutched onto his hard biceps and shoulders for balance. As if this wasn't awkward enough, her face was also inches away from his. She could smell his cologne, feel his warm breath on her skin, and his eyes deeply stared into hers. It was all so intoxicating, she was a bit light headed, and she thought she might faint, except for the fact that he was looking at her with those mesmerizing green eyes. His gaze wasn't unnerving and harsh, as it was back at Hearte's office, but it was now an intense deep sea green... and she felt herself drowning in them. His stare went from her engaged brown eyes and lingered at her mouth. He watched as Micah absent-mindedly dragged her tongue slowly along her lips, and he did a sharp intake of breath. She was almost sure he let out a small moan, before he let her go. "I'm ok…" she said breathlessly, while stepping back. She tugged her pencil skirt down and readjusted her jacket. But she was still trying to gain her emotional composure. "Good," he said, clearing his throat. "This is my office," it was a transparent, all glass office like most of the offices. He unlocked the glass door and gestured for her to sit. "You can have a seat here, I'll be right back," he said quickly. He ran swiftly down the hall and out of sight like he was fleeing from a ghost. What the hell just happened?
