Chapter 13

"Micah," he repeated her name again. She looked at his face. "Yes?" "Here," he said, She looked down at his hand, he was holding… …a bottle of water…? Micah was instantly pulled out of her intense daydream, as if that bottle of water was doused on her instead. "It's a cold one, instead of room temperature, you said you were hot, right?" He offered. OMG! she thought, as she took the water, "Thanks," she said. Her body was still hot, she could feel her hardened n*****s underneath her clothes and her moistened core. She quickly crossed her legs with embarrassment. Had she imagined the whole thing!? She could not believe she was daydreaming so intensely about being in a hot make out session with Rick. "What's wrong with me," she said out loud to herself. "Well it has been a bit hot in here lately. I don't think it's just you, the central cooling system probably needs to be checked," he replied. He was back at his chair behind the desk texting again. The room fell silent. Micah felt like she'd missed something somehow. He still never answered about seeing her yesterday at the Coffee Shop. "So… you really don't remember?" She asked, "Yesterday?" "Remember what, exactly?" He looked up at her nonchalantly. There was a part of her that felt disappointed. Why was he purposely deflecting my questions? She thought. "Nevermind," she said, still feeling uncomfortable about her daydream. She felt the need to quickly get out of there. "Are we done? I still have some work to do," she asked. "Sure," he said, holding back a grin. "What?" she asked him. He shook his head, "Nothing, it's just… it's going to be interesting working with you," he looked at her again with a glint in his green eyes. The amusement in his eyes aggravated her somehow, as if secretly he was aware of everything going on inside of her, and was purposely teasing her. It made her feel vulnerable and off balanced, again. She grabbed her blazer, and the rest of her things and quickly left almost as fast as Rick did yesterday. So much for not repeating patterns, and keeping myself composed, she thought. ---- After a couple of hours at her desk she paused when a text came in from Alex. "Just checking in. How's day 2?" "I had a daymare," she texted back. "Like a day time nightmare?" She replied. "Yeah," "You need to stop sleeping on the job and get some sleep at night. I told you to go to bed" sleep emoji. "Seriously though, it was horrible!" "What happened?" "It was me and Rick in a hot and steamy office sesh, like some cliche scene in a romance novel!" "Whaaat!" An eyes popped open emoji followed. "Looks like he's not the only one in the sandbox in need of attention!" Alex was referring back to Roni's comments the night before. "You're attracted to him too!?" "I'm really not. I don't know why I had that horrible daymare… maybe I've been celebate too long?" She texted. "We definitely need to get you laid, girl. You know me, just say the word and I can hook you up. There's a few men who can lay that pipe and they've been waiting in line like thirsty thots for you…" she lmao'd Eye roll emoji, "Not Donte! I'd never do that! I'd rather have a daymare replay than Donte," replied Micah. "Ha! I'll keep an eye open for someone then," replied Alex. "Ok, about to head to my 11am meeting. Ttyl" texted Micah. "Ttyl lady!" Micah grabbed her stuff and headed to her meeting with Hearte. She had taken Rick's advice and spent her morning calling a few of the companies to confirm the information she gathered before presenting her findings to Hearte. She looked around for her folder, and gave out an aggravated sigh, realizing she left it with Rick. She must have left his office so flustered that she forgot to take the file with her. But she had no time to get it before her meeting. She passed Simone's desk on the way to Hearte's office. "Is she in?" Micah asked. Simone gave her the nod to go in. Micah knocked on the door. "Come in," said Hearte, her voice almost sounded cheery. When Micah opened the door, it was almost the same scene as yesterday, with piles of papers on her desk, except Hearte was wearing a soft pink version of what she wore the day before, including the shoes. It gave her a warmer disposition that made Micah smile and eased the tense feeling she had about presenting her ideas. Rick said she wasn't open to rookies getting ahead of themselves. She wondered if she should take him up on his offer to talk to her first. "Good morning, Rae," she said peering up from over her glasses. "Good morning," she said, as she took a seat. "What's the news?" asked Hearte. Unlike yesterday, Micah had her undivided attention now. "It's possible that Russell is being framed. There's evidence showing that the secretary and her father are involved in a set up," said Micah. "I know, Dickson told me about it already," she said. She nodded to Micah's missing file already sitting on her desk. "He… he did?" Micah said surprised. "He said you all talked about it," said Hearte. Had he went ahead and helped her out even though she didn't ask him to? "We did..." said Micah, who was still confused. "Well great! So we'll run the story…" Hearte's phone started to ring, "I saw the questions for the press conference," she glanced down at the number. "Hold on, I need to take this call." Did she say the paper was going to print her article idea?! thought Micah with excitement. Rick must have talked on her behalf, maybe he really wasn't the self entitled tyrant she thought he was. "Sorry, Rae, I need to go handle some unexpected print issues going on downstairs right now," Hearte stood up and gather her things. "But looks like some good things came out of you guys teaming up so far. And Dickson really came through!" said Hearte looking excited. Micah nodded. She followed Hearte out the door. "We'll talk on Thursday after the press conference. Dickson will drive you guys out to South City in the morning," Hearte explained. "Be there before 10am sharp!" "Sure," she said, as she watched Hearte walking away. "Call him this evening to confirm, ok?" she turned to say before she was down the hallway and out of sight without waiting for a reply. Ok! thought Micah, that was easy… a little too easy. Micah made a mental note to discuss with Rick on their ride to the conference the next day
