Honold, however, was still chewing on another problem. “But if not you, then who killed Rick Santerna and his lieutenant?” he wanted to know, genuinely puzzled. His cyber-eye darted back and forth before settling on Mayhew again.
“I don’t know,” Mayhew lied, focussing to keep his heartrate and breathing steady, “Probably a hit ordered by a rival crime lord.” Mayhew shrugged. “It’s Maciste. That sort of thing happens there all the time.”
“And this business rival, whoever they might be, decided to have Santerna and his lieutenant killed, while you — the person with arguably the biggest motive to kill Santerna — just happened to be on Maciste. What is more, they have Santerna and his lieutenant killed, while you were fighting said lieutenant in the Arena…”
