Chapter Twenty-Three The drive over chewed through Adalia’s nerves like her old customer on an éclair. What would he say? She nibbled on her bottom lip hard and tasted blood, then swore and licked her lips to staunch the tiny trickle. She wasn’t in her right mind. What if he saw her and slammed the door in her face because of how she’d treated him? Adalia turned into the driveway and continued a stream of curses right up until she parked outside his front door. She couldn’t help it. This terrified her.
