Marty:
"This is the bra women consider the baby maker," Amy beamed. I rolled my eyes as I snatched it from her and began to get dressed.
"Why are you here?" I asked. "I am capable of dressing myself. I do this for a living remember?"
"Because Minerva gave me the four one one on the sexy alphas," she began to go through my clothes. "I want you to wear something sexy like you used to. This cute comfy look isn't helping your case,"
"My case? What do you think I'm going to do today?" I asked. She rolled her eyes.
"Dude," she complained. "Please stop arguing,"
She pulled out a pair of black skinnies, a white button-up, and a vest. I hadn't dressed like that since we were eighteen. She came over and began to look me over. I sighed knowing that no matter what I said to her she isn't going to stop. Amy never stops until she gets what she wants. Sometimes I miss the insecure kid I found in Kansas City.
Once I was dressed, she made me sit on the bed and continued to pull my hair back into two french braids. I never wore makeup mostly because my publicist thought my skin was too valuable to put makeup on. That didn't stop Amy from curling my eyelashes. Once she was finally done, she got my all-black classic vans and placed them on my lap. I have to admit this outfit had always worked for me. I stopped wearing it when I had thrown myself into my work to try and fill this... this gap in my chest.
"I wear makeup," she said looking down at her feet as she rocked back and forth.
"You don't need it. We could be twins remember?" I reminded her. She smiled and then started shoving me towards the door. When I opened it Nathan had his hand up about to knock.
"Dayum girl do you know where alpha stuck up is?" he smiled. I sighed.
"Take her out, please," I pointed at Amy.
"Babe, what did I tell you about bugging the alpha?" he asked her.
"Only when she's been drinking," she said like an obedient kid. I shoved him out of the way.
"You guys are ass holes," I groaned.
"I forgot you were hot," I heard a loud smack and then him apologizing.
"So, she did, in fact, call in back up, huh?" Cameron asked as we met at the staircase.
"Why couldn't she have been like a bitter hater, you know cause I was supposed to mate her husband?" Cameron chuckled.
"Because you chose to be the bigger man and not kill said husband,"
"So, I'm being punished for being a good person now?" I asked. He laughed.
"You are very blessed considering what's happened," I didn't comment on that. I want them far away from me and I can't seem to shake them no matter what I do. I've tried everything I could. I'm at my meanest when they're around and they think I'm being funny.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs, the four of them turned to look at me. Two pairs of eyes lit up and two just didn't seem to care. Devon and Dylan smiled at me and then greeted me like they always did, with a slight bowing acknowledgment. Reese is wearing a very nice casual suit.
"Alpha Martak," the stranger said and walked forward. "I'm Wayne Steele,"
"It is a pleasure to meet you," I greeted taking his extended hand.
I pulled back when a deep anxiety like feeling crept up my arm and raced through my body. We both looked at one another in surprise. That s**t was intense. The only other time I had felt something like that was when I had placed my hands on Dylan's face when I had released him only that had been ten times stronger than what I felt now.
"That was weird," he whispered.
"Yeah," I agreed, rubbing my hands trying to shake it off. "Alpha Reese you look amazing,"
"Thank you," he smiled. "As do you,"
"Have you met Alpha Steele. I know you both know Alpha and beta ass holes," they both laughed.
"No, actually I haven't met Alpha Steele," Reese said "Any relation to Alpha Steele in Northridge?"
"No," Steele growled at him. The scent around him sour, the scent of his lie surrounded me.
"No, better time for an introduction. Alpha Steele is here to help with finding out who is behind the rogue murders. His territory is a few miles north of mine where the bodies have been showing up,"
"You hired help Miss I can do anything better than you?" Reese laughed.
"I didn't hire him. I asked for his help. He's part of our alliance and like everyone else, I would like to get to know him a little better. Besides two minds are better than one," Wayne is new at this. He had come out of nowhere and I want to know where he comes from. Reese glared at Steele.
Someone's jealous. Cameron said in my head. Three minds are better than two.
Do not start with me. I sent back glaring at him before taking lead.
I like Steele he is very respectful. He continued.
I'm more respectful. I don't want him looking at other alpha's. He's my elder. He laughed.
"Sally tried very hard to put the body back together. I was told she did a really good job considering the state of the body and the small window of time I set for her. I really hope that when this was done the kid was already dead," I said as we walked into the morgue.
"Alpha Martak. Alphas," Sally greeted us lowering her head in submission.
"This is Sally. She is our pack physician," the guys all shook her hand.
"Alpha, in my autopsy. I found that he had been dead and drained of his blood before they cut him up. The way he was positioned when I examined the crime scene indicates he wasn't killed here, obviously,"
"Can we see it?" Devon asked. She nodded.
"There are some abnormalities. The cuts were done surgically. In my expert opinion, if I were to take a body apart like this, it would be because I was looking for something," she said as she pulled the body out of the refrigerator she had put him in. It did look like it had been stitched back together but other than that it is intact.
"Have you looked in the places where something could have been stored and removed?" I asked looking it over. Two sighs echoed behind me and a large relief left me knowing this wasn't their little brother. "What about this. These cuts on his chest?"
"Well, I wanted to do a proper autopsy but I wouldn't have had time to put it back together for a show and tell today," Sally shrugged.
"The body was very well preserved," I said walking over to the other side.
"Would you like some gloves?" she smiled. I nodded.
"What are you doing?" Reese asked.
"Checking to see why it's so fresh looking," I stated. He looks like he's going to throw up. "If you like you can wait outside. I'll only take a minute,"
"Weenie," Dylan chuckled as we walked away.
"Shut up, Dylan," I said as I finished putting on the gloves.
I looked over the body starting with his legs. Everything is in its place. As I moved up towards his abdomen his bones are all in place. He hadn't been beaten, there are no signs of trauma what so ever. When I got to his chest cavity I felt a soft spot and looked up at Sally who just smiled back at me.
"That scar was already there," she announced. "And it was reopened see how it's bulgy right here? That's scar tissue. He was alive when they opened that spot and stitched it back up. The scar was completely healed,"
"Can you open it for me?" she nodded and went over to her tools as I began to look over his head. All his teeth are whole in his mouth everything seemed to be in its place just like the rest of him. He didn't suffer. At least there isn't any indication that he had.
"What are you thinking, kid?" Cameron asked. I shivered when a chill crawled up my spine.
"He wasn't tortured or beaten. I think he either died naturally or he was poisoned,"
"He wasn't poisoned, Alpha. If he were, certain areas of his body would be seriously damaged. Nothing in this body is harmed. Some sick f**k just cut him up. Excuse my language," Sally said as she cut the chest open. "See this indention here that meant something was placed here for a really long time. Whatever was in here was what they were looking for,"
I walked over to her and looked down at the place where she had peeled the skin back. It's an oval shape. I looked up at Steele who was looking down at the hole in the boy's chest. He looked at me and raised his keys. On there was what looked like a bullet when he pulled it off. It turned into a USB it was almost the same shape of the groove in the muscle tissue.
"If that were to be in there for a long period of time it would have been damaged and could have poisoned the boy's blood," Sally said.
"Not if whoever put it there knew what they were doing," Steele added leaning into the body to get a better look.
"They knew," Sally nodded.
"Sally go into the wolf population archives and look for wolves under the age of twenty with heart disease,"
"What makes you think he had heart disease," Devon asked.
"When I was a kid, my mom had this little girl come in constantly. My mom put one of those chips in her chest that charge when her heart stopped beating, to bring her back when she slept,"
I took the cutting utensil Sally had used to reopen the wound cutting into the scar tissue. They still hadn't completely molded together from the surgery he had gone through. Sally brought the clamps to open him back up again. The cracking sound made us all look away.
"There it is," she said reaching in to pull the thing out.
"What if they did this to him on purpose and then cut him up?" Dylan asked.
"They wouldn't have bothered to do it so perfectly," Sally said. "I'm printing you a list with numbers and locations alpha,"
"Thank you," I answered loving that she just made my job so much easier. "I'm really glad he isn't your brother you guys,"
"So am I but why did he have Robbie's wallet?" Devon asked.
"It's a message," both Steele and Dylan answered.
"They wanted us to know that they that have something that we want," Dylan shook his head.
"Now, we have to find out is what they want," Steele added.
