ANASTASIA
The next three months, they fed me as if I was some kind of pig. I couldn't refuse even a single bite. Because if I did, the alpha demon would be at my back, threatening me with the lives of my people and my father. He had figured that my father was my only weakness.
In three months, I gained so much weight. I started having issues. I couldn't breathe properly. My back was aching all the time. I couldn't even walk without huffing for air. I couldn't do much so I would run in the garden in the morning and after every meal, I would run up and down the staircase.
I was doing the same that day. I woke up earlier in the morning. I started taking my laps. It was the last lap. I was about to finish. Something flew right into my eyes. I slowed down but kept walking while rubbing my stinging eye. Then I ran into a wall and fell back on my butt. I quickly rubbed the dirt out of my eyes. When I was finally able to open my eyes, I froze into my place.
It was not a wall that I had bumped into, but Alpha Vincent's butt. My heart started pounding against my rib cage and my throat went dry. He turned around, glaring at me as crouched down in front of me. “Do you have a death wish, little devil?” My heart flinched as I heard him groaning at me.
I narrowed my eyes as I didn't want to show him my tears. “I am sorry. It will not happen again. I got something in my eyes and I didn't stop running …” By the time I had realized it, it was already too late. I had told him what I was doing.
I had been running and exercising in secret. They were stuffing food in me to make me fat. And I was trying to lose some weight for my own benefit. “What were you doing here again?” He asked, looking annoyed, more than before. My heart literally leapt into my throat, making me choke.
I knew he could see my fear visible on my face. He was eyeing me up and down. The last thing I wanted was to get on his bad side. “I am sorry. I will not do that again. I beg your forgiveness, alpha.” My forehead was against the dirt and I felt no shame in begging him.
“I asked you what you were doing? I didn't ask for an apology.” He growled at me, making my stomach churn. Gulping hard, I looked at his face for the first time, but through the curtains of my lashes.
“I was running.” I replied in a very small voice. It was barely audible for me but I knew, he heard me loud and clear. He was one of the most powerful shifter in the kingdom, the lycanthrope. They were known to be more powerful than the king himself.
“Why?” He asked, his words rambling in his chest. For some reason, my heart skipped a beat when I felt that.
I narrowed my gaze because I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. I didn't want him to see my tears. “I was..”
“Look at me when you are talking to me. I asked you a simple question. Why were you running at this early in the morning?” He growled at me and I flinched in fear.
I looked up but I avoided looking into his red blazing eyes. They were terrifying. I focused my gaze on the bridge of his nose, closer to his eyes, to avoid further conflicts. “I have gained the weight that you all wanted. But as a result, I can't when take a few steps without huffing for air. I know enough that this isn't healthy. I thought I should exercise to avoid getting unhealthy fats stuck into my body.” I spoke calmly, trying so hard not to cry in front of him. It would anger him more.
“Who stopped from exercising?” He quired and I was dumbfounded.
“Huh! Oh, Kathy said I was supposed to be on bed rest for at least four months. I know I am not a healer but I don't want to be lazy.” I replied hesitantly, my voice going low by the end.
“I am sorry. I will not be doing this ever again. Please, don't hurt me.” I whimpered in fear. Those three months of my life, I forgot how it felt being in pain all the time. Not healing the old wounds and getting new ones. It was true that I didn't want to come to the pit of the beast. But I couldn't help but feel free in his pack.
No one would get drunk and beat me for no reason. No one would burn my flesh on the full moon night. I was not asked to run through the woods during the full moon hunt, as I was the prey for the whole pack. And whoever caught me, would get to beat me however they wanted. My father never stopped them. It all started when I didn't shift on my 16th birthday. That was the reason, I was ready to beg on my knees, or even kiss his shoes if he wanted me to, to avoid getting any kind of punishments from him. I wanted to breathe everyday without feeling the excruciating pain in my ribs.
“Exercises are good for health. It's not forbidden for you. You can run, if that's keeping you healthy. You're not supposed to get fat or lazy, as you don't want that as well. You were supposed to gain enough weight to be able to handle me in bed. And to be able bear my child.” My cheeks burned as he spoke to me. This time, his tone was softer than before.
“Really?” I asked, looking into his eyes.
“You don't have to hide this. You can run and exercise everyday. That'll also keep you healthy. I'll ask Kathy to make you a chart for your fitness as well.” He spoke calmly. My heart was hammering against my chest.
A wide smile appeared on my face. “Thank you, Alph…” I couldn't complete the sentence. I had forgotten that I was in the dampened soil. I moved too fast and the dirt on my hands smudge all over his shoes.
“Are you f*****g kidding me?” He growled at me again, making me flinch.
“I am sorry. I didn't realize that my hands were covered in dirt.” I whimpered as I quickly grabbed my handkerchief from my bra and was about to clean his shoes but he stopped me by holding my wrist in his large hand. Looking up at him, I gulped hard to down that annoying lump on my throat that wouldn't let me breathe freely.
“Clean them up with your hands, little Devil.” He whispered, his face extremely close to mine. He snatched the handkerchief from my hand. I nodded my head slowly. I got up on my feet and ran toward the hose to wash my hands. When I went back, I found him seated on one of the benches in his garden.
I knelt down on the ground, folding my legs underneath. He placed how shoes on my lap one after another. I cleaned his shoes with my hands, making sure I took all the dirt off. I wiped his shoes with my shirt. If that what it took for me to be able to live without pain, I was happy to be in the feet of that monster. I decided that I would be humble. I wouldn't let anyone hurt me again. I couldn't defend myself in any other way. So I would let him walk all over me.
Once he was satisfied, a smirked curled up on his lips. He stood up and was about to walk away when I called him from behind. “Alpha!” He stopped. He didn't turn. He just turned his head a little.
“My handkerchief.” I whimpered quietly. I didn't want to upset him.
“I gave it back. Don't stop me from behind ever again.” He growled at me angrily. I didn't know what made him so angry all of a sudden. I decided to bite my tongue so I could stay alive. When he walked away, I looked I to my bra, only to realize that the handkerchief was nowhere to be found.
“Maybe I dropped it somewhere.” I thought as I got up on my feet again and started looking through the garden, trying to find that handkerchief. It was special to me. It was that one gift I had received that was not handed to me bitterly. Someone very kind had embroided the signature of the goddess Hecate on the handkerchief by her own hands. Then she gave it to me on my 18th birthday. That small piece of clothe was important to me.
