CHAPTER 11.

1036 Words
SUNNY Mike and I stay in his room chatting as I teach him what he needs to do with his forex trading and how to profit. Then his phone rings, and it's some of our team members who have arrived at his home. "I have to go and attend to them, Sunny. I hope you can handle this on your own," Mike says, leaving the study table in his room while I help him work on his laptop. "Sure," I reply, watching him run to the door and exit the room. I think of Maryann and how I will talk to her. Her room is just across from Mike's, and I know that I cannot just go to her room and talk to her. I cannot even ask Mike about his sister without making him suspicious. I stay in Mike's room, sitting on his study chair and working on his laptop. My fingers click across the keyboard as I hear the sound of cars arriving at his home. I sigh. My phone rings, and I pick it up to see who is calling. It's a call from my mother, Juliet. I pause the project I am working on and quickly answer my mother's call. "Hello, Sunny. Where are you?" Mom asks through video call. I can see her wearing a green dress, while I see my Dad behind her. He's wearing a white top and black trousers. They are in a fancy hotel room. I sigh and reply, "Mike's house." "What? Why would you go there? I thought Mrs. Matthew warned you to stay away. She even sent the warning to me. Why would you go there?" Mom asks, her tone laced with fury as she frowns. "Don't tell me you went there because of Maryann. I don't want any unnecessary reports concerning you. Stay away from Mike's home. You can meet him outside." I don't argue; I simply agree. "Got it, Mom. It's Mike's birthday. He invited me over, so I have no choice." "Why didn't you take Jessica along with you? She called and said you left her behind—also issuing her a warning not to come over. Sunny, don't you know that taking Jessica there with you will prevent the Matthews from accusing you of something you won't do?" Mom looks annoyed, and I cannot blame her. I know Mrs. Matthew contacted my parents and told them she didn't want to see me in her home. It's how protective she is. "Mom, Maryann isn't a little girl anymore. You all should stop pointing an accusing finger at me. I have a girlfriend," I reply bluntly, and she sighs. "I understand, Sunny. But not when you are in their house. You are my only son, and I don't want any fabricated stories to send you to jail. Just wish Mike a happy birthday and go home. Unless you tell Jessica to come and join you three. She will help you keep watch and prevent unnecessary stories." I sigh. "Got it, Mom. I will talk to Mike. He says Jessica bullied his sister in high school." "My daughter isn't a bully. Anyway, it's high time to clear the air and make them get along. You cannot be there alone, so talk to your friend and make peace." "Alright, I will do that," I reply, seeing Mom smile over the phone. "We have a meeting soon. I will talk to you later," Mom says, finally ending the call. My Dad doesn't need to call me. After all, he wants me to take over the company, so he is not happy that I chose to play ball when I can sit and control his multimillion-dollar company. I sigh and resume my work on Mike's laptop. Immediately, my phone rings, and it's Victoria calling me. "Hey, Sunny. I am at your house now. Jessica and I are coming over to Mike's party. I hope you don't mind. She begged to come along," Victoria says, her tone laced with pleading, and I simply cannot refuse her. "Fine. Tell Jessica not to bully Maryann when she gets here, or she will be bounced out. Also, remind her to bring a nice swimsuit, and not G-string underwear," I say, knowing my sister can be shameless at times. "Sure, I will remind her," Victoria chuckles before our call ends. Sighing, I continue with my work, hearing the sound of my friends' voices. I don't want to leave the room, and I wonder when I will have the chance to talk to Maryann—at least to get to know more about her. I cannot even ask her out. I cannot talk to her. She is my best friend's sister and off-limits. I get tired of working, as I want to see what's going on. It's been a long time since Mike left me in his room, so I shut his laptop and rise to leave. My legs ache from sitting down too long. I do a few stretch exercises in Mike's room. His room is painted white and has a few pieces of furniture. I wonder what Maryann's room is like. I know my sister's room at home is painted white. Jessica is the reverse of what most girls like, such as having pink walls or dolls. She chooses rather to tag along with me, since our older sister doesn't stay at home. I step out of Mike's room, and luckily, I see Maryann returning to her room. Her eyes widen when they meet mine. She quickly lowers her head and wants to go into her room. Listening to the sound of conversation and laughter echoing on the lower floor, I quickly reach out to grasp Maryann's hand and stop her. "Wait. Can I have your contact?" I ask her, my heart pounding as I stand close to her. Her lavender scent fills my nostrils, and she blushes and agrees. I feel like someone who wins the lottery as I get her contact. I want to talk to her, to ask her out, but I cannot be in a hurry. I decide to talk to her slowly—to get to know her better before I shoot my shot with her.
