Interviewer: I still don’t understand all this business about smell.
Caleb: Yes, you do. Even humans are attracted to the way some people smell. It’s speculated it’s about genetic match. Well, with shifters, it’s like that, but far, far stronger.
Interviewer: So you just… know? From smell?
Caleb: Yes.
Interviewer: Is this, like, what… she was – [Coughs.] – in heat?
Caleb: [Laughs.] No, nothing like that. Shapeshifters don’t go into heat like their animal counterparts in the wild do. No, this was pure attraction. The moment I smelled her, I wanted her. And when I saw her, how beautiful she was as her snow leopard, how lush her coat was, how cute her ears were—
Anastasia: [Interrupts Caleb.] I’m not ‘cute’!
