When Vivian was brought to the hospital, she saw how Roman doted on Charlotte, and she couldn't help but tug the corner of her mouth into a cold, bitter smirk.
Roman looked at her, his gaze ice-cold, "Apologize."
"I didn't do this. Roman, can't you really see what's going on?" Vivian refused to back down.
"Roman, just let it go," Charlotte leaned against his chest, her face etched with grievance. "It's just that my body is still so weak right now. I heard that Madam Shepherd in Northville has a purple yam. I wonder if she would be willing to give it to us..."
The Shepherd family from Northville and the Lindsay family have always been sworn enemies.
Roman's brow furrowed tightly, "I will go ask for it in person."
Just as he was about to stand up, Charlotte caught his sleeve, "Roman, don't go. I'm scared..." Roman immediately turned to look at Vivian, "You go."
Vivian did not move, she stood still watching him hold Charlotte tighter in his arms.
Roman's eyes turned icy, "You know about the price you have to pay for disobeying my order, don't you?"
With Roman's reminder, Vivian finally looked away, "I'll go."
When she returned from the Shepherd family, Vivian was soaked head to toe in blood. Her battered, injured body swayed unsteadily on her feet. She bit down hard on her lip, swallowed the pain, and placed the purple yam into Roman's hand.
When Roman saw her state, his brow unconsciously tightened. His Adam's apple rolled, and he was just about to speak.
"I brought back... what you wanted. Can you... let my brother go?" Vivian pleaded softly, hoping against hope that she could wring even a sliver of mercy from him.
Roman brushed his large hand over her blood-stained cheek, but the words that left his mouth were unspeakably cruel, "But Vivian, the more you care about him, the more I want him gone from this world..."
Vivian felt as if she'd been plunged into ice, and her whole body went completely limp, passing out cold...

When she woke from her coma, she found Roman sitting by her bedside watching over her.
Vivian could not understand what Roman meant, but she dared not casually mention her brother right now. She had no idea what he might do.
Seeing she had woken, Roman let out a breath of relief. "That old hag from the Shepherds knew full well you belong to me, and she still dared to hurt you this badly. I will make them pay ten times over..."
After he finished speaking, he leaned closer to Vivian and whispered, "Vivian, as long as you behave and obey me, I won't hurt you again."
During her hospital stay, Roman cared for her attentively. He arranged for specialists to treat her, and picked out all kinds of nourishing tonics for her...
For a fleeting moment, it felt as if she had gone back in time, to when Roman still treated her the way he used to...
One week later, Vivian was finally discharged from the hospital. Seeing that Roman was in a good mood, she asked tentatively, "Mr. Lindsay, what did my brother do to offend you? If he made a mistake, I will apologize for him..."
She had thought about it for a long time, and could not understand why Roman had suddenly started targeting Aaron.
Was it because he thought her brother was useless? Or was it that the Lindsay family had spent too much money on him?
She bit her lip, "If this is because of his illness, I will cover the costs from my salary from now on..."
Roman's expression immediately changed. He slammed on the brakes, turned, and kissed Vivian on the lips, biting down hard.
A long while passed before he pulled back, only after he had gotten his fill of the taste of Vivian's blood. "Today, you will come with me to pick a guard dog for Charlotte."

They arrived at the kennel.
The cages held all kinds of large dogs: Tibetan Mastiffs, Gray Wolfdogs...
The strong, rank smell made Vivian uncontrollably shudder, and she was reminded of the feral dogs that chased and bit her as a child.
Roman knew full well that dogs were what she feared most...
She forced herself to stay calm, but her fingertips still trembled uncontrollably.
Suddenly, the iron cage beside her swung open. A huge wolfdog smashed through its cage door and lunged straight toward where Vivian and the others stood.
Vivian instinctively raised her arm to block. She could clearly smell the stench of blood from its jaws.
The crowd scattered in panic. Amid the chaos, Vivian saw Roman hold Charlotte tight in his arms and walk swiftly outside, not casting a single glance in her direction the entire time.
Fear and pain made her shake uncontrollably. In the end, the wolfdog ripped a chunk of flesh clean off her arm. The moment blood gushed out, she pulled a dagger from behind her waist and drove it hard into the dog's neck.
Before she lost consciousness, the last thing she saw was Roman shielding Charlotte.
