I was afraid I'd be the only otaku here." Alice: "Yeah, I'm surprised too. Let's keep our hobbies a secret. We don't want people to think we're weird." Max and Claire, on the other hand, are not amused by their partners' shared interests. David: "Oh wow, you like manga too? That's so cool!" Alice: "Yeah, I'm a big fan! What about you?" David: "Me too! I love reading and watching anime." Max: "Can we talk about something else, please? I don't understand why you guys are so obsessed with this stuff." Claire: "Yeah, I don't get it either. Can't you guys talk about something normal?" Alice and David continue to talk about their favorite manga and anime, and Max and Claire start to feel left out. Ben is embarrassed and wants to leave, but Alice convinces him to stay. Alice: "Look, everyone is here to have fun and be themselves. Let's not worry about what others think." Ben: "But what if someone from work sees us?" Alice: "Who cares? We're all otakus here. We should be proud of who we are." Alice and Ben have a great time at the convention, taking pictures with other cosplayers and attending panels about their favorite anime and manga. They also run into David, who is cosplaying as a character from the same series as Alice. They strike up a conversation and become fast friends. David: "Alice, you look amazing! I love your cosplay." Alice: "Thanks, I madeit myself. I'm glad you like it!" David: "Yeah, it's really impressive. I'm cosplaying as the main character from the same series." Ben: "I'm not cosplaying, but I'm having fun anyway." David: "Hey, you should try it sometime. It's a lot of fun!" Ben: "Maybe I will. I guess I'm just not used to putting myself out there." Alice: "Don't worry, we'll help you find the perfect cosplay for next year's convention!" Emily: "I'm not really into these kinds of games, but I'm having fun." David: "Yeah, it's great to have friends who share our interests." Ben: "I'm glad we can all be ourselves around each other." Alice: "Me too. It's nice to have a group of friends who understand us." As the night goes on, they realize that they have more in common than just their love for otaku culture. Their coworkers are surprised to see a different side of Alice and Ben and realize that they had been judging them unfairly. Claire: "Wow, I had no idea you guys were so creative and talented. Your wedding was amazing!" Max: "Yeah, I'm sorry for thinking you guys were weird. You're just passionate about something that brings you joy." Alice and Ben's wedding is a huge success, and they live happily ever after, proud to be otakus in a world where it's not always easy to be yourself.
