Ryder and Gemma listen in solemn silence as I recount how Damian's forces overwhelmed my pack through sheer numbers and viciousness. How he claimed me as his own prize, his new mate and future bearer of his heirs. "I never submitted to him willingly," I say, anger smoldering in my chest. "No matter how much he tried to break me, I never stopped fighting his control." "Until you met the one called Declan," Gemma says perceptively. At my surprised look, she shrugs. "Ryder mentioned him to me. The one who showed you love still existed, even under Damian's boot." I nod slowly. "Declan became my lifeline, my reason to keep hoping, to keep fighting to escape that nightmare. And when he...when I lost him..." I have to stop as grief clogs my throat. Ryder places a comforting hand on my arm. "Take your time. We understand this weighs heavily on you still." Drawing a steadying breath, I continue. "Losing Declan almost broke me. But his final wish, his dying plea, was for me to break free of Damian, to live the life of freedom he couldn't give me. It was the spark that reignited my fire to resist, no matter the cost." Gemma regards me with solemn respect. "A love like that, one worth dying for, fighting for...it's a rare and powerful gift, Rosetta. You honor Declan's sacrifice by being here with us." "Which is why we have to make this count," Ryder jumps in fervently. "We have to amass enough forces to not just challenge Damian, but to end his twisted reign forever. No more fear, no more oppression." "Agreed," Gemma says, her jaw set. "Which means we need to move swiftly to gather allies before Damian gets wind of our plotting. I'll send word to our contacts in the surrounding territories." "We should also see about acquiring more weapons and supplies," Ryder suggests. "The clans to the east may be willing to trade with us." I listen with rising hope as they strategize and plan. These are clearly people who know how to orchestrate a resistance, who have been preparing for the day to make a defiant stand. When there's a lull in the conversation, I speak up. "Count me in for whatever needs doing. I want to take the fight to Damian in any way I can." Gemma flashes me an approving look. "Your commitment and fire will be invaluable, Rosetta. With passion like that on our side, I'd say Damian's reign is finally nearing its end." Ryder raises his cup in a toast. "To freedom. To tearing down oppression." Gemma and I join in, our voices ringing with determination. "To bringing down Damian once and for all." As we drink to the noble cause, I can feel the stirrings of hope, of belief that we just might succeed after all. And I silently make a vow to myself and to Declan - I will be free. We all will. Our hopeful celebration is cut short by a frantic knocking at the door. Gemma's head whips around, her expression instantly wary as she rises to her feet. "Who is there? Identify yourselves!" "It's Kane and Silas!" A muffled voice calls out. "From the pack not far from you. We need sanctuary, quickly!" Ryder tenses, exchanging a loaded look with Gemma before she nods curtly. "Enter, but slowly and with no tricks." The door creaks open and two ragged, terrified-looking wolves slip inside, one supporting the other who appears badly injured. Gemma rushes over to help. "By the moon, what happened to you two?" She gasps at the sight of the wounds. The one called Kane shakes his head, eyes wild and haunted. "Damian. That monster came for us without warning. Laid waste to our entire clan." A heavy silence falls over the room. I feel icy dread trickle down my spine at Kane's words. Ryder is the first to find his voice. "Start from the beginning. Tell us everything." Kane takes a shuddering breath, leaning on his companion Silas for support. "We were a small clan, but we kept to ourselves, never bothered nobody. Wasn't enough for Damian, I guess." He pauses, Lost in the horror of the memory. Silas picks up the grim tale in a hoarse voice. "They came at night while we were sleeping. Surrounded the camp with reeking smoke and fire before any of us knew what hit. Then Damian himself strode in, sneering, looking more like a demon than any civilized wolf." Kane takes over once more, anger and grief contorting his features. "Tried to beg for mercy, for our lives, but he wouldn't listen. Just kept ranting about bringing all the packs under his control, by force if needed." "We refused to submit, to become his lapdogs," Silas rasps, trembling. "So he...Damian, he..." But the words seem to fail him. Kane's face is drawn, tears streaking down his cheeks. "He slaughtered them. Every elder, every pup, every wolf who refused to bend knee. Ripped them apart while the rest of us were forced to watch, pinned down and helpless." There's a hollowness to his voice, as if some fundamental part of him has been torn away. Gemma's face is pale, her eyes hard. "How did you two escape, if you were the only survivors?" "I managed to break free during the chaos," Silas says hoarsely. "Grabbed Kane and we ran for our lives while Damian's mutts were distracted with their...their massacre." A strange silence hangs over us all as we process the scope of Damian's monstrous act. Ryder is the first to find his voice, anger simmering in his words. "This is why we have to stop him, here and now. Before he turns his reign of terror on any other peaceful clans just trying to survive." Gemma nods grimly. "Agreed. What Damian has done...it's unforgivable." Her gaze lands on Kane and Silas, filled with sorrow and determination. "You two are safe here, for as long as you need sanctuary. And we will make Damian answer for his crimes against your clan and all free wolves."
