Sloane's P.O.V
I flopped down on the bed when we got home. Shopping is nice and all, but it's exhausting. Of course lunch was amazing, up until Jay told me about his father's birthday celebration. I know he wants me to go with him to his family events, but damn, my house just burnt down now I have to face his mother. This will be the first time his mother and I will both be there. Together. In the same room. Should I be happy or nervous? Anxiety it is then. Being in the same room as his mom is the same as me asking him and Kai to hang out.. It's a bad idea. I sighed one last sigh before I got up to unpack the shopping bags and find a place for all my new clothes. I walked into Jay's closet, it's basically a room and a half. On the one side were his shoes, then suits, casual wear, sports wear and in the half room were all his watches, ties, handcuffs..? Hmm. Kinky. The rest of the cupboards are empty, I'll just put my stuff in there for now. Seeing my new wardrobe, I feel like crying again when I think of everything and all my things that are gone. I went to the bathroom to take a quick shower, I'm really excited to wear this dress tonight!
I put some music on from my playlist, time to get in the mood. Maybe Jay and I could get a quickie in before we leave. He said he had to go into town for something 'work-related', that he'd be back just in time to freshen up before we go. I went to the kitchen, dancing in my towel all the way and got myself a glass of wine. I checked my phone for a message from Jay, but there was nothing but seven missed calls and two messages from Kai. One says 'pick up your phone', and the other says 'call me'.
Funny how fast the tables can turn. Usually I was the one calling, texting, waiting.. Well, I'm not waiting anymore. I've finally met someone who doesn't make me wait for anything, he makes things happen. I see Kai for who he really is now. It's about time as well!
This dress is killer!! Maybe too fancy for a birthday party, but gorgeous nonetheless. It's a deep red velvet dress, thin straps, all the way down to the floor, a slit up the right leg, open back, no cleavage. Got to keep things balanced. I made some loose waves with my ghd, I like the way my blonde hair looks when it's wavy. It reminds me of summer. My makeup is also natural except for my red lips, not because that's what I want exactly, but honestly it's all I know. The basics. If I wasn't so in love with sleeping I might have put in more effort with my makeup skills, but I'd rather sleep late instead of getting up extra early to paint my face. The thought of giving up snooze time made me purse my lips and widen my eyes.
"Baby.." I was so distracted with my overall look in the mirror, I didn't even see or hear Jay enter the room. I turned around and was about to lunge at him, when the expression on his face made me stop dead in my tracks.
"Gosh, babe, what happened? What's wrong?" I walked slowly towards him until I was standing right in front of him. He looked like he was about to cry or something.
"You.. You're.." the suspense though.. Get it out!
"Babe, what's going on?" he snapped out of it and finally answered.
"You're a goddess! You're the envy of all ladies in red. You are absolutely breathtaking, angel!" I punched him on his shoulder playfully.
"Are you serious?! I thought something really bad happened! Don't do that again." He circled around me and stopped behind my back. I saw his hands reaching around my face and something cold on my neck.
"Don't look now, we'll be late." I frowned at him while smiling simultaneously.
"When did you get ready?" I just noticed his fresh scent and the different suit he's wearing..
"The office. Had to make sure Brianna had all she needed and ready for the meetings tomorrow." he said taking my hand in his, leading me out the door.
"Did Brianna need a helping hand with herself as well?" I teased. He just looked at me with that frown and grin on his face. Good thing he can take a joke.
Just as we got into the car my phone started ringing, it was Kai. Again. Jay caught a glimpse of Kai's name on my phone just as I pressed the red button.
"Baby.." he said.
"I know, I know. Just let me handle this my way. You know the truth, and if you trust me, you'll know that I love you more than anyone else and that I will do this in my own time. Which will be soon. I don't want to see him right now and I don't want to do it over the phone. Okay?" I looked at him with my eyebrows raised. I know this must be hard for him almost as hard as it is for me, but I will do it, I just really didn't want to see or talk or hear about Kai for a few days. There's so much going on right now and tonight's celebration was the cherry on top.
Jay's P.O.V
I was really upset after the call from my mother, that woman has got some nerve. When I told her that Slo was staying with me after her house burnt down she said, "how convenient for Sloane. Sure she didn't plan on it?". My mother is really a piece of work. How can she even think that someone would burn their house down to get something they want? Makes no sense. I'm nervous about my mother and Sloane tonight, but some part of me hopes that they can somehow find some sort of mutual grounds. I wish she could see past Slo's tattoos and her education and see the beautiful woman on my side. Someone who has my back, someone who loves me with no hidden agenda. Doesn't she understand that I'm a happy man? I want to spend my life with beautiful woman.
After we got out of the car, the valet took care of it and we entered my childhood home. So big, yet cosy. The place I grew up in. My mother did a fine job with decorating the place, or should I say, yelling at the staff to get it just right. We walked through the hall to the entertainment area witch was spread out from inside the house, out onto the patio and merged into the garden. My dad took care of the garden himself. He loves being here. I looked at Sloane, she was an absolute vision. Men stared and women glared. Who were all these people anyway? There are more friends than family here. I took two glasses of champagne from the waiter who was passing through all the guests with his tray. As I handed one of the glasses to Sloane, someone behind her caught my attention. Green eyes I've forgotten by now, but looking at them they instantly brought all the memories back. Sh*t. Sarah... She's walking towards us, smiling.. No, no, no I've come so far with Sloane, nothing can ruin it now. This is not going to be good.
