The Gym

The glass doorway emits a hushed, buzzing noise that never ends. Velvet, carpeted walls muffling the overpowering, exciting screams of my classmates. A huge grin plastered on their faces.     I look at Mike beside me and whispered. "Is that supposed to do that?"      "You've been here for months."   "But, is it supposed to do that?"   Mike scratches his head. "Uhhh"   Alex charges to the front, the others groaning in annoyance as the almost-Mike clone looks around before the doorway.   "This is a big-ass gym!"   Mike and I trudge to the front, side by side to Alex.   "Come on, let's go inside." The both of us announced in unison.   Mike and I walked inside, turning around to face our classmates. Mike gestures his head to let them in. The class charges into the doorway and loud, humming sound erupts. They stand in front of the door way, admiring the gym.   I forgot what even this looks like.   Turning around, I catch a glimpse of the white, tiled walls with rooms of their own housing dumbbells, treadmills, and various equipment I can't even name, . The pale blue floor emitting a neon-blue basketball line, with the hoops in opposite ends of the gym.   My mouth agape at the futuristic design of the gym, I have been here for months and I just now happen to admire its entirety. The grueling training only fixed my vision on the room with equipment. But, a forceful tap on my shoulder breaks my train of thought.  “Babe, babe, BABE!” Mike shouts.  I glance at him, his eyes widened and his chest breathes in quick rhythm. Face filled with horror.  I turn around to see what he saw. All of my classmates lies lifeless on the ground. Mike and I stare at each other dash to our friends. I shake Alex’s body, his arms on Arronn’s shoulders.  “WAKE UP!” I shout.  I gaze up at Mike and he did the same, he thrashes Lucia’s body slumped on the floor, but to no avail.    “What do we do!” His voice shaky.  I stare up at him and he’s breathing rapidly, chest pumping up and down and a sweat trickles down from his forehead. The gym houses a deafening silence as Mike and I desperately try to make them awake.  Ringggg!  Mike and I stare at each other, he closes his eyes. Opening once more, but now a green, glowing shade. After a second, his eyes return to normal. He shakes his head, and a quizzical expression forms on his face.  RINGGG!  I look around and notice that the sound came from my pocket.  My phone!  I fish out my phone and check the caller ID. A green glow appears from my peripheral vision, and Mike’s head peers at my phone at a crouched position. It’s mom.  I press the green button and place the phone on my ear with shaky hands.  “Mo–mom?”  “Look behind you.”  We turn around to see my mother, wearing a dark blue pant suit with blonde hair that rests on her shoulder.  She sighs and looks down, her hand pinching the bridge of her nose. “I told you of the consequences.”  “I didn’t know this would happen!” I snap.  She looks, instead of an annoyed look on her face, she flashes a mischievous grin. My brows furrows, tilting my head slightly as I look at her.  “Mike?” She gestures her head towards our friends.  Mike nods and he closes his eyes, fluttering it open once again, his eyes pulsating green. I stare at him, and after awhile, it returns to normal.  I turn around to see my mother, now holding a syringe at her hand.  “I injected them with a mild version of your serum” She said matter-of-factly.  Mike and I rush to our friends’ side. “When will they wake up?” I asked.  She checks her watch. “Right about…now.”  Low groans and sighs erupts from our friends. One by one they sit up, their eyes fluttering open. Alex, the first to stand up, the next Tara and then the others. But, Arronn stay seated, a blank expression on his face. I wave my hands at his face, and nothing.  Suddenly, he screams and clutches his head. His eyes shut tightly as he rolls on the ground. The class’ eyes widen and everyone rushes to his side. Everyone grips at his arms, trying to still him. The class crying out his name as he continues to scream in pain.  Without a warning, he stops. His eyes open, with a neutral expression on his face. He sits up, examining our faces. He grips Alex’s chin, and plants a quick kiss on his lips, taking Alex by surprise.  “Are you okay?” Alex asks.  “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” Arronn smiles.  Everyone had a shocked expression on their faces.  Tara rushes to Arronn, pushing Alex aside as he falls on his butt. “But you just–.” Tara scans Arronn’s face.  Arronn removes her prying hands, and assures her with a smile. “I just slept that’s all.”  I look back at my mom, but she is nowhere to be seen. A little pissed at what she just injected.  We have powers for god’s sake! We have a different definition of mild!  “Can you stand?” Offering a hand to Arronn.  He replies with a nod and grips my hand–rather too tightly. He stands up. He thanks me and I massage my hand.  Ow!  We huddle in a circle first, assessing everyone if they’re okay. Mike and I check their faces but nothing is out of the ordinary. Except Arronn, he has a surveying look on his. Eyes darting to each and everyone of us from time to time.  “Are you all okay to play?” Alex asks with a concerned tone.  “Yeah!” Everyone said in unison, with the exception of Arronn, whose eyes still prances to and fro to us.  “I’ll sit down on the side for awhile.” Arronn muttered.  Alex goes to Arronn side and asks him again if he’s okay. Arronn rolls his eyes and says he is. Alex purses his lips.  “Mike, is there bleachers here or something?” Alex asks.  “Follow me, there’s a lounge here.”  Mike escorts the couple to a wall, and a keypad appears from the floor. He punches a code and    Whoosh!  The wall parts and the inside is the…  Lumen Headquarters! I thought that’s only at the school!  I scratch my eyes, and it was that. The three walks in and the wall goes back to normal.  “What kind of house do you have C?” A soft voice muttered.  I turn around and saw Demi clutching her book.    “I don’t even know as well.” My mind wanders.  Alex and Mike emerge from the wall again. A grin in Alex’s face.  “Let’s play!” He shouts.  Let the games begin.
